7 When you pray, dont babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Dont be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, --New Living Translation 7And when you pray, do not heap up phrases (multiply words, repeating the same ones over and over) as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking. [I Kings 18:25-29.] 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. 9Pray, therefore, like this: 15But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their [j]reckless and willful sins, [k]leaving them, letting them go, and [l]giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses. --Amplified Pray with Simplicity 5"And when you come before God, don't turn that into a theatrical production either. All these people making a regular show out of their prayers, hoping for stardom! Do you think God sits in a box seat? 6"Here's what I want you to do: Find a quiet, secluded place so you won't be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense his grace. 7-13"The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They're full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don't fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need. With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this: 16-18"When you practice some appetite-denying discipline to better concentrate on God, don't make a production out of it. It might turn you into a small-time celebrity but it won't make you a saint. If you 'go into training' inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face. God doesn't require attention-getting devices. He won't overlook what you are doing; he'll reward you well. |
Mark Kirby: O Mother of Good Counsel, I am all thine, Most Holy Mary, There is no part of my life that is not open to thee, I want to be completely transparent with thee, Praying in this way, I can be at rest, |

And Ted Turner gave millions to the poor...What that "saint" did was preserve a false religion with works.. As I said he may be in hell today
Whom do you think gave St. Louis De Montfort the "powers" for miracles? If they did not come from Christ, then they came from Satan, right? And if so, why were all the miracles so outstandingly positive and good?
Who gave the magicians the power to do miracles for the Pharaoh ?? It was not God.. Satan is the angel of light and he sometimes does what the world might call good . He is the great deceiver ...
Catholics do not idolize Mary, nor is she placed where Christ should be. That virtually ALL the saints Loved and adored Mary, should be an eye-opener. Also, that Mary appeared on earth should be of importance to anyone seeking the Truth. Remember, Christ allowed these apparitions! Would He allow His mother to make statements like "I am the Immaculate Conception" if it were not True?
Who says it is true? Who says SHE ever said that ? What is your proof?
In the end, they couldn’t care less about Yahweh, Yah’shua, or even salvation and eternal life.
All they care about is seeing to it that a human is placed on the throne supreme. Then they can ditch all this Yahweh business.
That is what's done ,dear sister. The Church thoroughly investigates a miracle before one is declared
Having a vision or visitation of Mary to make a declaration like about the immaculate conception, to verify a catholic doctrine, is just a little too convenient for comfort.
The Immaculate conception can be traced back to the early Church
Here are examples
"He was the ark formed of incorruptible wood. For by this is signified that His tabernacle was exempt from putridity and corruption." Hippolytus, Orations Inillud, Dominus pascit me (ante A.D. 235).
"This Virgin Mother of the Only-begotten of God, is called Mary, worthy of God, immaculate of the immaculate, one of the one." Origen, Homily 1(A.D. 244).
"Let woman praise Her, the pure Mary." Ephraim, Hymns on the Nativity, 15:23 (A.D. 370).
"Thou alone and thy Mother are in all things fair, there is no flaw in thee and no stain in thy Mother." Ephraem, Nisibene Hymns, 27:8 (A.D. 370).
"O noble Virgin, truly you are greater than any other greatness. For who is your equal in greatness, O dwelling place of God the Word? To whom among all creatures shall I compare you, O Virgin? You are greater than them all O Covenant, clothed with purity instead of gold! You are the Ark in which is found the golden vessel containing the true manna, that is, the flesh in which divinity resides." Athanasius, Homily of the Papyrus of Turin, 71:216 (ante AD 373).
"Mary, a Virgin not only undefiled but a Virgin whom grace has made inviolate, free of every stain of sin." Ambrose, Sermon 22:30 (A.D. 388).
"We must except the Holy Virgin Mary, concerning whom I wish to raise no question when it touches the subject of sins, out of honour to the Lord; for from Him we know what abundance of grace for overcoming sin in every particular was conferred upon her who had the merit to conceive and bear Him who undoubtedly had no sin." Augustine, Nature and Grace,4 2[36] (A.D.415).
"As he formed her without my stain of her own, so He proceeded from her contracting no stain." Proclus of Constantinople, Homily 1 (ante A.D. 446).
"A virgin, innocent, spotless, free of all defect, untouched, unsullied, holy in soul and body, like a lily sprouting among thorns." Theodotus of Ancrya, Homily VI:11(ante A.D. 446).
"The angel took not the Virgin from Joseph, but gave her to Christ, to whom she was pledged from Joseph, but gave her to Christ, to whom she was pledged in the womb, when she was made." Peter Chrysologus, Sermon 140 (A.D. 449).
I SO need one of those!
;-)
Miracles are not proof positive that the person knows Christ. Matthew 7:21-23 are Christ's own words.
Matthew 24:23-25 23At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'There he is!' do not believe it. 24For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the electif that were possible. 25See, I have told you ahead of time.
Mark 13:21-23 21At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'Look, there he is!' do not believe it. 22For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and miracles to deceive the electif that were possible. 23So be on your guard; I have told you everything ahead of time.
So, Satan can obviously perform miracles, signs, and wonders. Jesus Himself warned us about that and to be on guard against it.
If someone puts forth an unbiblical teaching and produces a *miracle* to verify it, it's not going to be from Christ. He would never contradict His word.
It is really a nice sentiment, pollster1, but you should also remember that the Roman Catholic Magisterium - those who determine what all Catholics are to accept as dogma - are much like the Supreme Court. They use "precedent":
precedent n. An act or instance that may be used as an example in dealing with subsequent similar instances
These precedents are based more on "tradition" than on actual Holy Spirit led illumination of scripture. This is why tradition is placed "on par" with God's revealed word and it is also why some doctrines, which are found nowhere in scripture - and sometimes directly contradict scripture - that The Church deems correct are mandated for all those who would claim the mantle of Christian - under penalty of eternal condemnation.
This is, I think, the main objection that is attempted to be explained in each of the forum threads where we have to take sides. It is not my desire to find fault every time and with everything stated by those to whom I disagree. It just seems some have a very light trigger finger and are ready to shoot the first person to disagree with whatever is the topic when that person dares to state an opposing view. Insults and labels of "hate", "bigot" and "anti-" flare and the opportunity to discuss a subject devolves into name-calling and offense with only an occasional post peeking out through the weeds and snares thrown in the way.
I too am often startled and saddened that the tone cannot be calm and respectful. I have tried to adopt that attitude in my posts - though I admit I'm not always "there". I have seen the same desire in other posters here as well and appreciate them very much. I just wish we could all resolve to keep the discussions respectful and not be so quick to take offense. "Love is not easily offended.", is a great aspiration.
What is considered "harsh " today, because of our political correctness ,would have simply been debate language in earlier church times.. Look at the debate between Luther and Erasmus. Some how today we think peoples 'feelings" are more important than truth .
Look at the words Peter used on Pentecost , look at the words Christ used to the Pharisees ...
Wouldn't you rather hear it plainly said than have things danced around?
I'm sure that if Satan can keep someone out of heaven by following false doctrine or teaching by doing a good positive miracle in their lives to *verify* it, he wouldn't mind that they have a nice, comfortable existence on this planet to guarantee them a place in hell for eternity.
It may chafe at him because Satan is out to kill, steal, and destroy and I'm sure he'd rather make us suffer, but I'm also pretty certain he'd rather have someone in hell for eternity more and is willing to put up with making them fat, dumb, and happy to accomplish it.
Mary had the right lineage, the right lifestyle (virgin) and was in the right place at the right time. There was nothing intrinsically special about her over anyone else that God couldn’t have used another young virgin for if she also fit the bill.
God CANNOT do anything He wants.
There are things that God is incapable of doing.
That tired old SHALLOW STRAW DOG IS ABSURD, DISINGENUOUS AND ULTIMATELY DISHONEST TO THE MAX.
As has been demonstrated on FR for over a decade and certainly relentlessly the last 6+ months . . . the Roman Catholic et al Vatican edifice/institution is fractured at least as much as the Protestant camp.
Oh, but, Oh, but, but, but the Catechism, the Catechism! We all bow and scrape before the same Catechism!
WHAT UNMITIGATED BALDERDASH.
1. When one has even Bishops supporting/ignoring/covering over everything under the sun CONTRARY to the Catechism--including getting it on with adolescent and younger boys . . .
2. When MOST OF the Roman Catholic et al politicos in Washington and elsewhere brazenly violate a sizeable chunk of the Catechism and STILL enjoy approval, The Lord's Supper and acclaim from Roman Catholic hierarchy including the Pope . . .
3. When, as has been demonstrated hereon, a Roman Catholic considered more or less in good standing, can castigate Paul as insane and disagree with a number of other parts of the Catechism . . .
4. When plenty of Roman Catholics et al can seemingly with a straight face disagree with major portions of the Catechism . . . persistently engaging in unforgiveness, bitterness, resentment, telling other Christians to "go to hell" and the like . . .
5. The Roman Catholic et al edifice has within it as many opinions and practices about Pentecostalism/Charismania as do the Protestants.
6. The Roman Catholic et al edifice has within it as many opinions and practices about END TIMES ESCATOLOGY as do the Protestants.
7. The Roman Catholic et al edifice has within it as many opinions and practices about globalism and the looming global tyranny as do Protestants and atheists combined.
8. The Roman Catholic et al edifice has within it AT LEAST as many pseudo-Christians--in name only--as Protestants.
9. The Roman Catholic et al edifice has within it AT LEAST as many murderous, genocidal, corrupt, criminal guilts and sins of the past against those in its designated OUT-GROUPS as the Protestant camp.
10. The Roman Catholic et al universities teach AT LEAST as many unGodly, UNBiblical horrors as the Protestant universities.
11. The Roman Catholic et al owned and/or managed main stream media outlets publish AT LEAST as many UNGodly, UNBiblical horrors, lies and distorted propaganda as do Protestant owned MSM outlets.
12. The Roman Catholic et al congregations emphasize, teach, support, allow, ignore, play coyly with AT LEAST as many horrific sins as do Protestant congregations.
13. The Roman Catholic et al Pastors twist, distort, undermine, lie about, shred, mangle, subvert . . . AT LEAST as many Bible verses and probably at least as many different ways as Protestant Pastors do.
14. On this forum alone, a diversity of Roman Catholics et al have asserted most emphatically stuff about Mary which other Roman Catholics et al have asserted contrary things about.
15. We've been told ad nauseum that NO ROMAN CATHOLIC ET AL PRAYS TO MARY FOR MARY TO DO THINGS *FOR* THEM. We have documented that IS wholesale chronically, farcically FALSE, UNTRUE--at some level a gross deception if not an outright deluded lie.
16. We've been told relentlessly that NO ROMAN CATHOLIC PUTS MARY IN ANY KIND OF INORDINATE PLACE vis a vis Christ, God, Holy Spirit. We've documented a wealth of material proving otherwise as have an abundance of folks hereon proven otherwise.
THE BIBLE SAYS THAT THE LETTER OF THE LAW IS DEATH BUT THE SPIRIT BRINGS LIFE. AND THAT'S TALKING ABOUT SCRIPTURE!
However admirable the Catechism may be in however many spots--it is still MERELY the letter of the INTERPRETED WRITTEN LAW. In and of itself, it can only bring death.
Ya'll point to the Catechism as though it's a thought-stopping, argument settling, terminal issue settler. HOW CAN IT BE ANY MORE ALL THAT THAN SCRIPTURE IS! WHAT UNMITIGATED MAGICSTERICAL ARROGANCE!
MOST of the Roman Catholics I know are MOSTLY Sunday Christians only. I should say--for an hour a day on Sunday--Sunday Christians. Maybe 20% or less seem to earnestly try to please God and walk in His will. I don't know how that compares to Protty stats. Most Prottys don't still claim to be Christians in good standing regardless as a lot of Roman Catholics et al seem to do.
I usually preferred Roman Catholic counseling clients over a lot of other orientations because they would obediently try and do what I suggested and they'd get dramatically better fairly rapidly. Most of those were earnest faithful Roman Catholics et al.
The Sunday only Roman Catholics et al were as contrary, messed up and problematic as clients as ever any Protty I ever had to wrestle interminably with.
The frightful things about the Vatican Edifice at this point, to me are:
B) AN INCREASINGLY STARTLING AMOUNT OF SUPPORT FOR GLOBALISM AND THE LOOMING TYRANNICAL GLOBAL GOVERNMENT--and therefore, ultimately, the satanic world ruler.
Are you THAT DECEIVED YOURSELVES?
What gives y'all the cheeky ARROGANCE to pretend, to IMAGINE, TO FANTASIZE that your magicsterically derrived Catechism is going to achieve MORE FAITHFUL HOMOGENIZATION IN REAL LIFE--WHERE THE RUBBER MEETS THE ROAD--THAN SCRIPTURE HAS???
Your religion is not only NOT ANY BETTER than the Protestant camp, there's abundant evidence that it's horrifically worse in several critical areas.
That's NOTHING to PUFF ONE'S SELF UP OVER AND brag about.
I mostly agree . . . 98%? LOL.
Not AT ALL.
THAT IS
NOT
THE BIBLICAL CRITERIA.
I wonder if you even know the Biblical Criteria.
No Scripture.
Nothing from the Gospels.
Therefore, not true.
Yeah. Thank you very much for asking.
He told me that if seeing blasphemies and idolatries makes me violently ill, then I should just avoid seeing them. I was about to ask how then to avoid Romeians, but spied a little plastic statue on his desk wearing a tiny straight jacket and having the caption: St. Paul, Patron Saint of the Insane and I immediately thought the better of it.
Later I got a second opinion from the Fine, Howard, Fine Clinic which told me to apply a hammer to my foot whenever I encounter Maryianity. They assure me that this will immediately take my mind off of blasphemy and idolatry, or so the theory goes.
I have my doubts though, as the violently ill feeling I get is pretty strong.
Well, I believe the Bible as quoted. Campion said God can do whatever he wants. The Bible says he DOES do whatever he want.
Any such statements by church “doctors” or “fathers” must be measured against the Scriptures since even before the last of the apostles were dead apostates were arising from within the Christian community. Paul, Peter, and John had warned of this happening.
