Statistics released Nov. 24 by the FBI show hate crimes against religious groups increased by 9% from 2007 to 2008.
USA Today reported that in 2008, there 1,519 incidents against people based on their religion, the statistics show.
The figures reveal that while anti-Jewish attacks made up the highest percentage of the attacks (17%), there was an increase in hate crimes against Catholics 75, up from 61 in 2007.
Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, said the increase may be due to the Church becoming more vocal on life issues such as abortion and homosexual unions.
As the Catholic bishops take a stronger stance, he said, it filters down to the laity, and as more traditional Catholics become more vocal, they become targets for those who disagree with them.
Unfortunately, it spills over into violence, he said, adding that its just going to get worse before it gets better.
Ive never seen our country so culturally divided and so polarized, he said. These issues are not going away.
Given that the Democrat Party sees RCs as "the Democrat Party at prayer," why would this surprise anyone? Perhaps the more conservative RCs are picking up bad habits from their more liberal brothers.
Lol ... your response is an excellent example of anti-Catholicism. The Catholic Church has taken action to prevent this from re-occuring, ref. Tell me, what has your church done?
Sexual Abuse of Children by Protestant Ministers.
How about the sexual abuse of children in society at large? You know, the abuse by teachers, counselors, imams, rabbis, et al? Yet you would single out the Catholic Church to 'attack' in this response, and not any other religious denomination. Why?
No, it reflects the way HQ, Roman Catholic Church, approved of this behaviour.
To speak the truth about the evil carried out by Rome in this is hardly "anti-Catholicism."
This is your post #1 on this thread:
Is is most disappointing to see the number of so called "christians" in this forum who have joined in on these attacks. Their religious leaders have remained silent on these matters.
Here you base your expression of "disappointment" upon an article which discusses (in part) hate crimes against RCs by unidentified assailants in society at large. And yet in your first post you immediately single out "so-called 'christians' in this forum" to attack, and not any other possible group (Klansmen, Muslims, or, following Bill Donohue, sodomites and pro-aborts).
Why?
A typical Roman Catholic technique, also used by the liberal Democrats. Twist words, leave out important punctuations, tags etc.
Thank you for this reminder from an impending saint!
Why?
That's because the anti-Catholic bigots on Free Republic typically identify themselves as Christians. I don't think there are many klansmen or Muslims on FR and the sodomites and abortionists are usually run-off after a short time.
Am I the only one who noticed that there have been nearly a hundred posts on this thread and many of them are either denying that anti-Catholic bigotry exists or giving flimsy excuses to justify the bigotry.

Actually, they typically, and unfortunately, identify themselves as Protestants. As do "their religious leaders," which NYer also singles out for oppobrium in his post. NYer wasn't just criticizing anti-Catholic bigots who just happen to self-identify as Protestants -- he was "attacking" all Protestants.

Am I the only one who noticed that NYer posted an article and commented on it in such a way that one is reminded of a youth shoving a stick into a hornet's nest?
... and then, when the hornets fly out, ready to sting, the response by NYer and his cohort is to exclaim "Nasty hornets! Why you buzzin'?"
I don't deny that there exists anti-Catholic bigotry on Free Republic. I combat it occasionally. But, sadly, it isn't the only form of bigotry that one can see expressed here.
Because it just seems to me that it’s not healthy for you. You just seem to air all your personal baggage against the Catholic Church time and again, attributing to ALL Catholics what you unfortunately experienced yourself. The rest of the world isn’t like that all the time.
Wow. An authoritative quote from a source that assumes the uniformitarian worldview and evolution. Guess that fries my beans.
2)Why does everyone assume that "reason" means uniformitarian "science?"
I notice you're new here and may not be familiar with how FR operates, but this is an OPEN FORUM. If you want a private response use FReepmail.

Actually, they don't.

NYer happens to be a SHE and she has NEVER attacked Protestants as a group. However, YOU seem to be making it personal.
I don't deny that there exists anti-Catholic bigotry on Free Republic.
That's good to hear.
Grey's Anatomy does not trump Leviticus. If you think it does that is your problem.
The raising of sex abuse cases by a small minority of Catholic priests time and again is just another hammer to beat over the heads of Catholics. If it hadn’t happened, you’d be using a different tool against us.
In case you haven't noticed, the vast majority of your co-religionists are very vocal in their Biblical criticism and their uniformitarianism, and I notice that those of you who disagree very rarely, if ever, rebuke them or even try to offer balance.
How in the world do deal with the cognitive dissonance of feeling at home in an organization in which your beliefs are rejected and scorned by a majority of the members (or at least the loudest ones).
Ever hear the expression that you're in the majority if you have God on your side? And it isn't "Biblical criticism" if you don't believe the universe is only 6,000 years old. You know I don't believe in evolution, but thinks that the universe is old.
That is precisely the goal of "some on here."
On what grounds? That it "looks" billions of years old? That's just plain silly. Adam "looked" about twenty years old when he was created. Why so many people think that neither Adam nor the universe could have been created fully formed is one of the mysteries of the ages.
Well, since the Catholic Church should not be held accountable for the evils of the capital city of Italy, I suppose you're right.
But lying about the Catholic Church is both anti-Catholicism AND evil.
