With God all things are possible. On February 6 little Aadon Olmstead suffered traumatic head injuries by the hands of his mother's boyfriend. Today little Aadon is still fighting for his life. The doctors have taken him off all life support and have not fed him or given him water for 9 days now. (Another Terri Schiavo?) But God is greater than this situation...I am believing for a miracle to happen in this case...that the little boy will regain consciousness and enjoy a good and fulfilling life. Please pray for his restoration to his family and that by this miracle, many will be brought to the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
Prayers lifted for Aadon.
May His peace overwhlem and comfort this little boy, whose only true parents are his Heavenly parents.
Yours is a very old and unanswerable cry. Why did God allow terrorists to fly airplanes into the Twin Towers? Why did God allow an ignorant father to toss his toddler off the Viaduct and then jump after her? (Father was killed; toddler survived.) Why does God send babies by the hundreds to people who toss them in dumpsters, leave them in snowbanks, drown them in Wal-Mart toilets and so on, and send my good friends a long-awaited baby who died at 9 weeks of massive pediatric cancer throughout his entire body? Why? Because.
Nevertheless we must play the cards we are dealt. Prayers for not only this child, but for the mother who put her desire for regular sex over the life of her child. God created the rules and expects us to live by them. Actions have Consequences. May God comfort this baby and allow his mother to live in torment for eternity.
Joining in the prayers on this thread for Aadon. Dear Lord, please heal him.
prayers sent
Prayers offered for a miracle. Truly sad situation.
Lord, spare our children from suffering and surround Aadon with Your love and healing. Amen.
Christians think God does intervene. There's a lot of irrationality in that because we can all clearly see big and small things every day that are worth intervention by God, things we ourselves would intervene in if granted the power to do so. Maybe Jessica Lunsford had to die for the greater good, but we as God could intervene and make it so she is shot in the head from behind before being buried in 3 trash bags, instead of letting her realize for probably hours that she was going to die by suffocation. We would have had her not be raped, even if she had to be buried alive. But, there was no intervention. No answered prayer. Probably because God took the phone off the hook, because that at least makes sense.
I know plenty of people who feel the way you do — people whose lives have been hit hard by the unanswerable evil that humanity pours out upon itself. Since I’m not God, I have no answer to give you. Why don’t you ask God? And read C.S. Lewis’ book “A Grief Observed.” He kept a journal as his beloved wife died of cancer and of the feelings he had after her death, raw and unedited, until he became reconciled with the inevitable fact that everybody who is born has to die. (If you aren’t into religious books, I recommend the Star Trek episode “The City on the Edge of Forever” by Harlan Ellison.
I’ll pray for you too.
Actually, my life has been fine for the most part. My nephews were sexually abused by the boyfriend of an aunt and my Dad died at age 63 from cancer, but that’s pretty mild compared to most folks. No need to pray for me. I’m just empathic, I guess.
prayers for Aadon—
There is no one on earth who does not need to be prayed for. You need not take any notice of me, though; I expect nothing from you in return.
Prayers that the Guardian Angel of Aadon continues to hold him in his loving arms ... lay him back in his hospital bed if God wishes ... or carry him Home if that is to be.
Prayer bump
Prayers lifted..
Prayers for God’s blessings.
Prayers sent, hoping for a miracle
“The doctors have taken him off all life support and have not fed him or given him water for 9 days now.”
Those vile demons. May the Lord God smite them with all the plagues of Egypt.
Lord, this innocent child is in Your hands. I don’t even know what to pray for here, that he recover, or that You gather him in. Thy will be done, as all Your works are good.
Amen.
“Christians think God does intervene. There’s a lot of irrationality in that because we can all clearly see big and small things every day that are worth intervention by God, things we ourselves would intervene in if granted the power to do so.”
That doesn’t mean it’s irrational. It just means we don’t understand.
After all, it would be a pretty small and petty god that we could comprehend in totality, wouldn’t it? A God that is no wiser than we are?
Thomas Aquinas said, “Some there are who presume so far on their wits that they think themselves capable of measuring the whole nature of things by their intellect, in that they esteem all things true which they see, and false which they see not. Accordingly, in order that mans mind might be freed from this presumption, and seek the truth humbly, it was necessary that certain things far surpassing his intellect should be proposed to man by God.”
Even more apropos, William L. Brown said, “The attempt to make God just in the eyes of sinful men will always lead to error.”
Hellen Keller communicated, “We could never learn to be brave and patient if there were only joy in the world.”
For us to become what God wants us to become, it is necesary that we live in a world where bad things happen to good people for no reason that we can discern. However bad those things are, though, how miniscule are they in comparison to eternity with God?
