FLDS Parents Could Face Charges for Abandoning their "Lost Boys"
KCPW News ^ | February 14, 2008

Posted on 02/22/2008 9:11:12 AM PST by Zakeet

They're called the "Lost Boys," the teenagers kicked out of their homes and communities by leaders of the polygamist Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to ensure there's an ample supply of single, young women who will one day become plural wives. Representative Lorie Fowlke (R-Orem), is running a bill to make this abandonment a felony.

"Estimates are that we've had more than 1,000 children - primarily in southern Utah - thrown out of their homes," Fowlke says. "What we were trying to do with this bill is criminalize this behavior and send a message to this community that they can't just throw away their children."

H.B. 23 adds child abandonment to the definition of child abuse, and makes it a felony crime. It also adds an enhancement if a parent or organization benefits from the child's abandonment to further an illegal enterprise, such as polygamy. This is the case with the FLDS church, says Roger Hoole, a lawyer who represents some of the displaced young men and sits on the board for the Utah Association for Justice. He says the church benefits from kicking out young men who would compete for plural wives. This, he says, has devastating consequences.

"There's a huge impact that's coming, like a tsunami, that's going to hit the state of Utah, when these boys get a little older and realize what has happened to them and get angry," Hoole says. "There's a real problem here."

Fowlke's bill gained unanimous support in a Senate committee this morning, and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.

There is a poster who is obssessed with demanding that Christians tell him/her which church has it right. I’ve told that one repeatedly until I no longer do anything but jibe her/him that it is not some ‘church’ that has the right answer, it is God’s Spirit. Read the Bible seeking God and His Spirit comes out from His WOrd to resonate truth to you. One reason why Christians say that one should not push aside the still small voice within when the Gospel is heard is the Truth that His voice comes to the human soul/spirit gently, usually, wooing one to awaken, and repent and trun to Him for Deliverance. It really doesn’t matter from which sect that comes to you, it is really His SPirit doing the wooing not the sect/church/org. Now is the time, this is the hour when He is whispering to you that He wants to be your Savior. The hour will come when He will no longer seek you if you continue to squelch the still small voice within. Don’t plead ‘dissonance’ to avoid awakening to His spirit.

You were not going to post that, as you state, but could not resist doing so, as I see...in any case, thanks...

And as always, various different people from various different Christian religions, will come to different understandings what those very same references actually mean...

I don’t think natural man” slurs is a slur when someone delibertly takes another post an to rend or to turning it on them, for that is not the spirit it was given.

This why this is not the place to discuss salvaion when it show that some are not ready to read what the scriptures say and try to rend them even.

To some where they reside in the scheme of things this is hard

When a person has a desire to know the Lord more, than hard things to hear then they shall be able to receive.

1 Ne. 15:

3 For he truly spake many great things unto them, which were hard to be understood, save a man should inquire of the Lord; and they being hard in their hearts, therefore they did not look unto the Lord as they ought.

4 And now I, Nephi, was grieved because of the hardness of their hearts, and also, because of the things which I had seen, and knew they must unavoidably come to pass because of the great wickedness of the children of men.

• • •

10 Behold, I said unto them: How is it that ye do not keep the commandments of the Lord? How is it that ye will perish, because of the hardness of your hearts?

I disagree. From the definitions you posted of "natural man" I doubt anyone would NOT see it as a slur.

This why this is not the place to discuss salvaion when it show that some are not ready to read what the scriptures say and try to rend them even.

That's pretty obvious, when someone takes it upon themself to judge sin in others.

When a person has a desire to know the Lord more, than hard things to hear then they shall be able to receive.

I pray that someday you will be willing to know the Lord and desire to receive the truth, I really do.

Just what definition of "sin" includes renting, turning of words or posting telltail? A FReeper may not LIKE what is posted, but that doesn't define it as a"sin".

BTW what is meant by "telltail"?

First of all I spell the word wrong it is rend:To pull, split, or divide as if by tearing, to deny that many of the LDS post were not mock or torn apart not by truth but by turning ones on them!

I thought "telltale" would be obvious when someone mission is to ridicule or mock it is telling on themselves!

Resty, please cite some source that defines the above as "sin". Thank you.

Yeah, often I forget Murrays first name, I always want to call him Arthur Murray(the old time dance instructor)...even now I have to stop and try to remember his name, tho I always remember his sons name, because it is my cousins name...

And your point would be?....

I am not selling Murray at all, and if you take it that way, well, that is quite frankly your responsibility, not mine...

Maybe you could go back even further, and dig into my posting history... and discover what I have to say about the faith healers, such as Benny Hinn, and Ernest Angely and Jim Whittington, and what I think about them...I recall having a discussion with another poster about Ernest Angely and his ‘shock belt’, that he uses to promote his ‘slain in the spirit’ act onstage...

Which of course, brings up another difference that many different Christian churches have regarding the matter of instant healings by professed faith healers...some Christian churches believe completely in this, others think it is all fake, and they all claim their beliefs are based on Biblical references...

I note that the works of the flesh include "adultery, fornication, lasciviousness." These things He condemns in Christians, according to the Scriptures. What all is encompassed by "witchcraft," exactly, according to God's Word?

WITCHCRAFT

There shall not be found among you [any one] that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, [or] that useth divination, [or] an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things [are] an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. Deu 18:10-12

Quick answer: Witchcraft is a translation of the Hebrew word kishsheph and the Greek word pharmakeia, both of which mean sorcery.

More complete answer: HERE.

How the term applies to Mormonism: HERE.

One more consideration: As the above scripture clearly teaches, God clearly considers all occult practices an abomination and promises He will personally remedy the situation.

Just as a matter of information, you ARE aware, are you not, that mormons use priesthood "blessings" and anointing of oil for healing purposes?

No one is judging another when they discern them in a nature man state.

It is the difference between night and day.

As a mother (grandmother, great-grandmother) I am sure the memory will ALWAYS remain clear. You will hold that child in your heart as long as you live, I'm sure.

When one turns another words on them, or to rend them they are dishonest and in order to do that to another, one must leave the light of God to be able to do such a deed, for these kind of actions can not take place under the influence of the Lord.

The person themselves has self impose condemnation upon themselves by the decision or action they mindfully choose to do.

What gives someone the authority to "discern" others in a "natural man" state? And HOW is that NOT judging them?

In the context that term has been used, it has looked very judgemental.

>>Well, I haven’t seen the movie for quite a while, and I don’t think I ever DID know what the “We thought you wuz a toad” meant...wanna clue me in? I did like the music a whole lot.<<

That parallels (like the rest of the movie) the story of The Odyssey... When the three men meet the girls in forest (representing the Sirens) who seduce then and take Delmar away, Pete and Everett find a toad sitting on Delmar’s clothes.

Pete concludes Delmar has been turned into a toad so they don’t go looking for him and thus are unaware he’s been taken to prison.

So when they meet Delmar later, “We thought you wuz a toad” is Pete’s explanation for why they did not try to find him when he was taken by the Sirens.

Sorry that’s so long winded.

IIRC, I read somewhere some Mormons carry small vials of oil on their key rings.

Apparently, they believe they can break the capsule open in emergency situations and thus deter death, alleviate pain, and better facilitate rapid recovery.
