WITCHCRAFT
There shall not be found among you [any one] that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, [or] that useth divination, [or] an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things [are] an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. Deu 18:10-12Quick answer: Witchcraft is a translation of the Hebrew word kishsheph and the Greek word pharmakeia, both of which mean sorcery.

THE CURRENT TEACHING OF THE MORMON CHURCH:
"The living are thus authorized, under prescribed conditions, to act for the dead, and the fathers in the spirit world look to the children in the flesh to perform for them the works which they were unable to attend to while in the body...Knowledge that is needful concerning the spiritual sphere will come through an appointed channel and in the appointed place. The temple where the ordinances can be administered for the dead, is the place to hear from the dead." MORMON DOCTRINE, 1888, pgs.40,41 Charles W. PenroseThe above, however, contradicts what is plain in the Scriptures, that God forbids witchcraft, divination, necromancy, and the like:
