Childish behavior |

They're called the "Lost Boys," the teenagers kicked out of their homes and communities by leaders of the polygamist Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to ensure there's an ample supply of single, young women who will one day become plural wives. Representative Lorie Fowlke (R-Orem), is running a bill to make this abandonment a felony.
"Estimates are that we've had more than 1,000 children - primarily in southern Utah - thrown out of their homes," Fowlke says. "What we were trying to do with this bill is criminalize this behavior and send a message to this community that they can't just throw away their children."
H.B. 23 adds child abandonment to the definition of child abuse, and makes it a felony crime. It also adds an enhancement if a parent or organization benefits from the child's abandonment to further an illegal enterprise, such as polygamy. This is the case with the FLDS church, says Roger Hoole, a lawyer who represents some of the displaced young men and sits on the board for the Utah Association for Justice. He says the church benefits from kicking out young men who would compete for plural wives. This, he says, has devastating consequences.
"There's a huge impact that's coming, like a tsunami, that's going to hit the state of Utah, when these boys get a little older and realize what has happened to them and get angry," Hoole says. "There's a real problem here."
Fowlke's bill gained unanimous support in a Senate committee this morning, and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.
So..........does this bill provide “evidence” that this is occurring (discarding of children) is no longer just “gossip”?
But, but, but, the MORMONS do this? That can’t be.
I’ve read about the lost boys & find it to be horrible. Prayers for these boys & the hope that something will be done to help them.
[But, but, but, the MORMONS do this? That cant be.]
What’s funny is that Mormons repeatedly tell us that merely claiming to be Christian is the same as being Christian, but any polygamists claiming to be true Mormons must be ostracized because they aren’t true Mormons.
Good idea. Surprising that throwing a child out of the house isn't already part of the definition of abuse - at least if the child is too young legally to be self-supporting.
Thanks for the PING
I had heard about this happening...
These peoplke think they are above the law...
or that our “secular” laws dont apply to them...
Shi’a Law is also being practiced in the US...
No, this is not The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This is a lunatic cult that is rife with insanity. The evidence is that I view being a father as my highest calling and allowing one or more of my sons to be tossed out of my home is absolutely beyond the lower limits of my moral standards and the moral standards of any decent Christian.
FC, you are coming really close to personal abuse with that smarmy comment that you have to know is a lie.
Exactly. The inhabitants of these polygamist colonies have been allowed to run their own little fiefdoms unhampered by the law enforcement agencies in Utah and Arizona for decades. There have been some very brave souls who have escaped the cults and have brought these abuses to light in the past few years.
They believe that Joseph Smith was a Prophet, they follow the Book of Mormon, they follow the Doctrine & Covenants (even better than the mainstream LDS Church in regards to section 132). In fact I think these are the true believing Mormons.
You LDS insist that we Christians must claim you Mormons as Christian even though Mormonism doesn't believe in the same Christ, but these Mormons are not to be called Mormon because they still practice the law of Celestial marriage. You guys crack me up!
bttt!
If Joseph Smith had NOT listened to the two deceiveing spirits 180 some years ago, this travesty would NOT be happening.
The folks in Colorado City really BElieve what the Prophet wrote in Doctrines & Covanents 132!
You confuse PERSONAL with CORPORATE.
It's NOT a lie; the LDS group, based in SLC, will THROW OUT of their organization anyone found to practice polygamy, thus removing them from being called: MORMON.
That FIRST ‘comment’ didn’t last long!
LOL
Please try again.
