FLDS Parents Could Face Charges for Abandoning their "Lost Boys"
KCPW News ^ | February 14, 2008

Posted on 02/22/2008 9:11:12 AM PST by Zakeet

They're called the "Lost Boys," the teenagers kicked out of their homes and communities by leaders of the polygamist Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to ensure there's an ample supply of single, young women who will one day become plural wives. Representative Lorie Fowlke (R-Orem), is running a bill to make this abandonment a felony.

"Estimates are that we've had more than 1,000 children - primarily in southern Utah - thrown out of their homes," Fowlke says. "What we were trying to do with this bill is criminalize this behavior and send a message to this community that they can't just throw away their children."

H.B. 23 adds child abandonment to the definition of child abuse, and makes it a felony crime. It also adds an enhancement if a parent or organization benefits from the child's abandonment to further an illegal enterprise, such as polygamy. This is the case with the FLDS church, says Roger Hoole, a lawyer who represents some of the displaced young men and sits on the board for the Utah Association for Justice. He says the church benefits from kicking out young men who would compete for plural wives. This, he says, has devastating consequences.

"There's a huge impact that's coming, like a tsunami, that's going to hit the state of Utah, when these boys get a little older and realize what has happened to them and get angry," Hoole says. "There's a real problem here."

Fowlke's bill gained unanimous support in a Senate committee this morning, and now heads to the full Senate for consideration.

JS instead of JC? Interesting. I hope they aren’t deciding their salvation on that.

Jesus Christ needs no prophet to speak for him. He can speak for Himself and does, through the scriptures.

I know many who are anti try to divorce this fact from the Church that these are the Doctrines and Revelations of Jesus Christ!

Yes...I am fully aware of this Mormon claim.

As you are aware, at the least, given Joseph Smith's fraud conviction related to his "seeing stone",the missing golden tablets and the not-so ancient egyptian language funeral documents (and of course the requirement from Deut. 18, which requires prophets to be 100% accurate 100% of the time)...this claim becomes somewhat dubious.

But we digress...

Can we know what salvation is, now, and also know how we are to obtain it?

That's what it is.

From a previous post, I repeat:

What is up...You complain that posters misquote Mormon beliefs but then, when given an opportunity, you refuse to tell us what it is. Why?

Their salvation is important to me, mom. They are being deceived by their leaders and their Book of Mormon, and I fear they will not be saved. THAT is what’s important, not their outward behaviour, which I agree is admirable.

You equate plural marriage between adults with child abuse? I stand by what I said.

Given that you obviously have done some research already into anti-mormon rhetoric then maybe you can understand why we aren't answering what is actually a very very simple question answered by a simple browsing of mormon.org and what is also covered early in lesson two or three of the missionary lessons.

By your followup posts we can tell that you are not actually interested in an answer and probably already know what the answer is. It doesn't take long at all for questions and questioners to show their true colors in the questions asked.

We answer honest questions. We do not answer people that have no interest in honest questions.

I know the Doctrine of The Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints teaches that there is no other way but by Jesus Christ our savior, that man can be saved!

Articles of Faith

The Articles of Faith outline 13 basic points of belief of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Prophet Joseph Smith first wrote them in a letter to John Wentworth, a newspaper editor, in response to Mr. Wentworth's request to know what members of the Church believed.
They were subsequently published in Church periodicals.
They are now regarded as scripture and included in the Pearl of Great Price.

THE ARTICLES OF FAITH
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
History of the Church, Vol. 4, pp. 535—541

  1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
  2. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.
  3. We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
  4. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
  5. We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
  6. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
  7. We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
  8. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
  9. We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
  10. We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
  11. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
  12. We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
  13. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

And there are many mainstream Christians that don’t tangle themselves up in the Nicene Creed I know for a fact in the 1960’s this was never a issue and it was something in later years they got many of the protestants to endorse this creed.

THEY who??

Old Mountain Man said: You equate plural marriage between adults with child abuse? I stand by what I said.

But pby had said: How is it a twist on the strawman technique to conclude, from your statement, that you don't think that plural marriage is abusive to the involved teenage wives (or even the adult ones for that matter)?

Hopefully, that untwists what you twisted (I am sure that you just honestly missed the or even the adult ones for that matter part). There was no equating of plural marriage between adults with child abuse (but abuse in general).

And we will try it once more...Is plural marriage not abusive to the involved teenage girls (and the adult ones, as well)?

Your distortions and equivocation on this straight forward question is most telling and astonishing!

changes nothing, by the works of man in studyimg the Bible there is a confusion in how we get to Heaven, that, can only be caused by more then one Christ, or a bunch of men who did not get the Word of God correct.

1 Corinthians 2:12
We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.

2 Corinthians 1:13-14
13. For we do not write you anything you cannot read or understand. And I hope that,
14. as you have understood us in part, you will come to understand fully that you can boast of us just as we will boast of you in the day of the Lord Jesus.

That depends on the meaning of the word “saved.”

Humpty Dumpty
'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather scornful tone,' it means just what I choose it to mean, neither more nor less.'

'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can make words mean so many different things.'

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master - that's all.'

Alice was too much puzzled to say anything; so after a minute Humpty Dumpty began again. 'They've a temper, some of them - particularly verbs: they're the proudest - adjectives you can do anything with, but not verbs - however, I can manage the whole lot of them! Impenetrability! That's what I say!'
