Shouldn't take too much longer.

I think "Saint John Paul" has quite a ring to it...

Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, and Pope John Paul. I've considered them rather saintly ever since I saw all those people on that wall in Berlin with sledgehammers.

They're just going through the motions. The decision has already been made for all practical purposes.

Sorry, just gotta ask: How many people with cancer make sudden, unexpected recoveries without the intercession of any religious people at all?

Got to say I don't know, but once the doctors have told the patient he's outa here, I reckon it would be rare.

A fair number. I used to have a book entitled "Spontaneous Regression of Cancer" or something to that effect. I remember noticing that the regressions were often associated with high fevers and wondering if anyone was ever going to study that as an approach.

This was at least 20 years ago.

I have helped bury two very close friends who died from cancer this year, one religious, one not but both were fighters.

I would not scoff at a visit from Pope John Paul.

As a Protestant who deeply admired John Paul II, I'm happy that this honor is coming to him.

As a Christian, however, I'm dismayed that the number of miracles required is so low. There should be people in every single congregation with a gift for healing and miraculous answers to prayer should be frequent and obvious. My Charismatic Catholic friends probably share my dismay and wonderment.

Don't forget St. Barbara, the patron saint of artillerymen.

The feast of St. Barbara is Sunday December 4th this year. I will shoot off a bottle rocket in her honour.

For more information concerning Saint Barbara or the Order of Saint Barbara, contact the United States Field Artillery Association, P.O. Box 33027, Fort Sill Oklahoma 73503, or telephone (580) 355-4677 or email: usfaa@sirinet.net

After a fashion, St. Barbara would be the patron saint of ZOT and the Viking Kitties.

St Elmo being the Patron Saint of ammunition, explosive workers, ordinance.....etc

Erasmus was also known as Elmo. He was the bishop of Formiae, Campagna, Italy, and suffered martyrdom during Diocletian's persecution of the Christians. He once fled to Mount Lebanon during the persecution and lived a life of solitude there for some time, being fed by a raven. After the emperor discovered his whereabouts, he was tortured and thrown in prison. Legend claims that an angel released him and he departed for Illyricum, eventually suffered a martyr's death and was one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. Legend records that when a blue light appears at mastheads before and after a storm, the seamen took it as a sign of Erasmus's protection. This was known as "St. Elmo's fire". The blue electrical discharges under certain atmospheric conditions have also been seen on the masks or riggings of ships. Erasmus is also invoked against stomach cramps and colic. This came about because at one time he had hot iron hooks stuck into his intestines by persecutors under Emperor Diocletian. These wounds he miraculously endured. His Feast day is June 2nd.

From my profile page:

"I am Catholic, Prayers for Pope John Paul II, he was a great man and an inspiration to me."

I believe in Miracles

My Prayers are with both of your friends. I know of one of your friends, TexasCowboy. Prayers for both of your friends.

I am now watching "Have No Fear: Life of Pope John Paul II. Sadly, in a way, I can relate to the sorrow he had in his early years.

Well, it was reported that during his funeral Roman pickpockets [a pretty numerous bunch] took a week-long collective vacation - there were no thefts despite all the crowds. Count that as a MAJOR miracle, and if you still have any doubts - try to pull it yourself.
