Was President Reagan Saved?

Remembering President Ronald Reagan
Rev. Billy Graham

...

During the years before Ron was elected to public office, I had often detected a spiritual side to him. For example, I remember once when I gave a small dinner party at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and invited him. He brought up the subject of the Second Coming of Christ. The same subject came up with him on other occasions as well.

I have been told that where he grew up, in Dixon, Illinois, he did some preaching himself in his late teens. At the time, he was a member of the Christian Church, which was somewhat like the Baptist Church. I kept forgetting to ask him about it, however, something that I now regret. During the eight years of Reagan's presidential administration, we saw each other a number of times. I especially appreciated his kindness in inviting Ruth and me to several states dinners for visiting foreign leaders.

One night while I was staying at the White House, Nancy and the President got into a discussion about the question of salvation -- who was going to be saved and who was going to be lost. He gave her his views on conversion and the new birth right out of the Bible. She turned to me.

"Billy, is that right?"

I said it was ...

You were driving... and you raised your hands in the air. :^0

LOL The other day while driving on the very busy freeway system of the bay area in California, I saw a woman in a convertible with the top down pumping iron while driving! Better to be raising your hands in worship! :-)

He may be nominally Catholic, but judging by his eulogy, Michael is firmly in the evangelical fold when it comes to salvation.

Hayford has stated that Catholics are saved and that God honors anyone who seeks God through Mary, because the end result is still Jesus; clearly an ecumenical kind of guy. Could be Mike is a Protestatholic (new word).

Or maybe the sign of the cross is just "chic" now because of the Passion... sorry, couldn't resist.

***Could be Mike is a Protestatholic (new word).***

Having listened to his radio program quite a bit his comments are very evangelical in nature. Whether he has much doctrinal understanding, I am not sure. I do know he would insist on the new birth and not simply baptism.

He marks his conversion later in life.

Our priest spoke about President Reagan most movingly this morning. I was very pleased.

Well, Ron's the only one who could've preserved the line.

Everyone who has ever been born on this earth IS SAVED! Jesus did His work at Calvary! Now the question is .. .. .. Did Ronald Reagan Believe In that Salvation?

This thread would not have been complete without your distinctly Antinomian contribution.

She came across as very new age in her book.

And in her eulogy as well; I've never even read her book or heard that description before, but as soon as I heard her eulogy, I told my wife she was new age.

Nancy's astrology surely had an impact. Playing with fire is not good for your loved ones.

Maureen actually returned to the Catholic Church when she married Dennis Revell. Before that, she became a Lutheran.

I can inform you firsthand that Reformed Episcopalians do the sign of the cross during recitation of the phrase "the resurrection of the body" from the Apostle's Creed.

And in her eulogy as well;

Oh yes, that line from a book she read was so new age I almost could hear the song The Age of Aquarius in the background!

In my Episcopal church, I attend the early service, which is about 2/3 older people. About 1/3 of the people, mostly older ones but some younger, either make the sign of the cross, or genuflect, or both.
