I happen to think that one important qualification for governor is the ability to get elected. Therefore I think Arnold is more qualified.

You are a breath of fresh air.

That's certain a matter of opinion. You blindly follow the Republican party like Bagdad Bob followed Saddam.

If Stalin was running as a Republican against Hitler, who was running as a Democrat, I have no doubt you'd be here supporting Stalin.

I'm just waiting for the day Arnold raises taxes and starts governing like the liberal he is. People like you won't be around to admit to being dumb enough to have supported him.

Congratulations!

There were so many to choose from, but one particular post has been nominated as one of today's MOST OUTRAGEOUS COMMENTS for your suggestion that Arnold is a social terrorist. You'll be thrilled to know that your comment will be added to the Hall of Shame, comprised of other shrill comments by McClintock's increasingly desperate supporters, such as:

-- Posts (plural) that proclaim that "if you vote for Arnold, you're not a Christian."

-- An admission that some are creating an "enemies list" of sorts made up of the FR screen names who support Arnold, and of organizations that support him, intended to be a list of people and groups who have proven themselves "unreliable."

-- A suggestion that there needs to be a "true conservative" challenge to President Bush for the nomination, so McClintock should run against him in the primaries. (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/990293/posts), and an outright endorsement of McClintock as presidential material (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/990718/posts?page=13#13)

-- A suspicion about Darrell Issa's claim that McClintock made a promise to him that his candidacy would not damage the chances of electing a Republican in the recall, because Issa is "a terrorist sympathizer." (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/990452/posts?page=246#246)

-- The comment that "Arnold wants to use your tax dollars to slaughter unborn children," along with the corresponding comment that Arnold's supporters are "babykillers." (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/990641/posts?page=81#81)

-- The suggestion that Arnold is a rapist/woman-hater who is not only like Bill Clinton, but "Arnold IS Bill Clinton!" And in an encore performance, the claim that Arnold's supporters have become Clinton as well. (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/990490/posts?page=36#36)

-- The wish, because of White House involvement in encouraging candidates who can actually win, that "With any luck, Karl Rove will be in prison in fairly short order." (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/990793/posts?page=12#12)

-- If Arnold is elected, one person hopes that he will lose his job and that the entire California economy will tank, simply to embarrass Governor Schwartzenegger. (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/990490/posts?page=26#26)

-- The declaration that it would be better having Bustamante as governor than Arnold. (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/990839/posts?page=63#63), and for an encore performance of the same theme (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/990839/posts?page=69#69)

-- Not to be outdone, a claim that it would be better to keep Gray Davis as governor than to have Arnold! (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/990606/posts?page=26#26)

-- The suggestion that Arnold is a piece of human excrement. (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/990718/posts?page=20#20)

-- The judgment that Arnold's supporters are toxic poison, degenerate godless filth, and are condemned to hell! (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/990894/posts?page=8#8)

-- The assessment that negative, libelous, last-minute slime tactics are just peachy, provided they are aimed at Arnold. (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/991042/posts?page=32#32)

-- …and to illustrate the previous point, a post proving one to be the moral equivalent of Gray Davis by posting their own negative, libelous, last-minute slimy hit-piece. (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/991802/posts?page=1)

The unappeasables are being purged.

Yes indeed. I like #297 as well.

Perhaps the face of the Republican Party is changing. So far, looks like California goes GOP ... I'm keeping my fingers crossed! :)

That's how Bill Clinton became gov of Arkansas. They thought he was cute.

Get REAL ... or get a dictionary at least. The ability to get elected is not the same as being "cute".

McClintock just cut his throat for any future GOP help.

Can Schwarzenegger win a general election with only forty percent of the vote? Then he might want McClintock's support in the future. McClintock has made himself into a kingmaker, and if you're actually conservative, why are you offended by the thought that someone will be there to make sure Schwarzenegger stays to the right?

My God, I haven't seen all of these posts you listed. I have tried to limit my time on the recall threads because the fighting was appalling to me since I feel we must dump Davis and that the enemy should be the democrats. This is just amazing!

Engler was down 20-30% for most of the campaign, and was polling at 38% the weekend before the election.

Arnold has already said he's serving only til the end of Davis's term. And Tom's behavior over the last few weeks has effectively ended his own career. I wouldn't vote for him for any office.

It is becoming increasingly obvious that even the most conservative republicans in the party do not like McClintock at all. I had heard stories in the beginning about this, but now I would say there is real truth to this. One has to wonder why.

Country Clubs are full of very successful people.

A great many of them successful either at choosing their parents or obtaining government contracts.

I'll vote for Arnold, but I have little respect for the country club set.

"And the Schwarzenegger supporters will be roasting in Hell, God willing!"

With a statement like this, I would have to question whether you even have a concept of God. This is disgusting.

Your point is ..?? Arnold is getting support from ALL OVER THE COUNTRY ..?? Aren't you upset over that ..??

The current news has Arnold in Monterey, California and Tom in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The current news has the Republican front runner about to topple the Davis/Bustamante team while the only significant Republican who refuses to support the Republican team fund raising out of state to attempt to run as if this were a Republican primary instead of a recall general election which could throw the election to the Democrat, Bustamante. Now why would I be upset ?

I'm going to try to stay above the fray and just make this point saying nothing else on the election.

Ballots have (or will be) printed with McClintock's name on the ballot. So his name will appear on the ballot (as will Simon's) because they qualified to run. McClinton could drop out and drop back in if he really wanted to. "Dropping out" would do nothing officially. It would only say to voters -- don't vote for me, cast your votes for someone else.
