Kevin, I had a graphic taken down that showed a guy with his tongue out and eyes askew labeled McClintock. This thread has been positive. Please find someone else to discuss issues here. I'm not going to continue to bicker with you on this thread.
Have a good time guy. Later.

Tom would make a FANTASTIC senator. Especially given that it means he'd knock off either Boxer or Feinswine.
To: Scott from the Left Coast
I'm a Texan IN California and I loved Arnold's line about my home state. He's absolutely right.

Arianna paid $700 in CA income taxes in 2 years I believe that was $771 in federal income tax and NO state income tax.

Mrs. Huffington was a complete bore and thank God Arnold had the presence of mind to put her soundly in her irrelevant place. She surely has a hard-on for Arnold and George W. Bush. She was a complete dithering idiot who had absolutely nothing to offer to the seriousness of the debate and what is at stake for our future in California.
Bustamante, the money launderer reminded me of someone who thought this was a complete joke and was snidely smirking his way into the governor's seat while dreaming about his next meal. Somehow his words of being against this recall defy logic as he sits there campaigning and debating about reasons we need to vote for him. He thinks raising taxes and penalizing industry is the best course to further ruin this state. He also, is a racist bigot, IMHO.
Peter Camejo, socialist rich pig. Tax. Tax, and more taxes while railing against free enterprise. Big whoopi. Why he was there is beyond any reasoning.
Tom McClintock was smart, saavy, and truly was on message. I think the commentator was giving Tom the short shrift when it came to time while allowing the nonsense of Arriana continue unchecked except by Arnold effective put-downs. It will be interesting to see his polls numbers in the next few days. He was quite effective.
Arnold was cool. This had to be one of his hardest performances as he knew beforehand that people would be looking for how prepared he was to debate real life career politicans, a moron, and a bigger moron. He has effectively shown he can, but I do think the format was entirely too restricting and dominated by too many liberal concerns as judged by the types of questions that were presented to the panel.
I still am pulling for Arnold to be our next Governor of California. I like the fact that he has a strong private business background, he was not obsessed during his life to enter politics, is sacrificing a lot to run for governor, including the personal attacks on his prior youthful indescretions, and character that surely must hurt his young children, and has a viable and strong track record of successful business decisions using his own capital, not the taxpayers. A principal lost on career politicians.
All in all , the format sucked, the questions were too slanted towards liberal issues. The commentator was clearly unable to effectively control the inane remarks of Huffington.
In closing, the debaters all should have looked at the audience and not each other when answering questions. I sort of felt left out as a viewer.

"Sadly to say, few California FReepers care about substance vs style issues."
That's a rather sweeping -- and erroneous -- generalization.

STRATEGERY! Definitively yes. In my imagination, Bush-people might well be beating down Tom's door and promising Tom their firstborn children to get out.
Tom enhanced his own image greatly and advanced the conservative cause.
Before Arnie's Angels jump on me, let me state for the record that I regard myself as a little-l libertarian and really don't always agree with conservatives trying to dictate their moral values on everyone else. I wish I could solve every problem, but I think there is a practical limit.
Back to Tom, let's say, just for argument's sake, that Arnie's Angels are right and Tom can never win. Certainly Tom would be aware of that if so. So he could still figure out a way to pull out, leave the field to Arnold, and come in deux-ex-machina if and when Governor Arnold is installed and runs into policy trouble because he pandered and overcommitted during the campaign. Tom would then be ideally poised to take over in 2006 (if not earlier ;-).
(Sheesh, I should just shut up here and go advise Tom under the radar... ;-)

And we desperately need to improve the Senate. That is more important than any other goal except retain Dubya.
If Tom graciously withdraws and backs Ah-nold, he will collect so many chits from the party that he'll be well-positioned to make a big-time run for Senator.
To: skeeter
McClintock in still young. He has a bright future. I know folks consider Arnie a sell-out, but many here are just being realist. Joe Schmoe voter couldn't find McClintock on a ballot.
Sad really.
I'd like to see McC pull out for the good of the party. That sort of "falling on your sword" would endear him to a core of Cali repubs for life.
He needs to grow on people.
A guy put it here best, McC is the guy you'd hire to manage your business, but you'd never let him out on the sales floor.
If he stays in, based on principle, I could understand, and even respect that.
I think it would be a
d@mn shame to do that though, and plunge Cali into another round of Demo foolishness but its not my call.
Must be a heck of a decision....
Arnie is not Uber-Republican. But we know what happens to our guys who run on the left coast.
Either way, I just hope Cali can somehow get outta this mess, the whole state of affairs is just a dang shame.....

This was terrific, there were no real fights on this thread tonight, and it was great fun.
