Please feel free to make your comments, etc., on this thread to let others know if you heard the speech, what you personally thought of President Bush's speech to the United Nations.

By speaking to the UN, he is giving relevance to an irrelevant and obsolete organization. It was a mistake to go.

watched the speech live, thanks for posting!

strong speech. no groveling to the UN.

He reminded them that the FAILED to stand up for the resolutions, though he put it diplomatically. He pointed out some real evil in the world (nuclear proliferation in terrorist states, slavery, the spread of AIDS) and called on the UN to work on these things, rather than obstruct the US bringing freedom to world.

He also said, the terrorists should have no "friends" in this chamber- of course they do.

all in all, a good shaming of the UN, similar to last year.

"Saddam Hussein's monuments have been removed -- and not only his statues. The true monuments of his rule and his character -- the torture chambers, and the rape rooms, and the prison cells for innocent children -- are closed. And as we discover the killing fields and mass graves of Iraq, the true scale of Saddam's cruelty is being revealed."

it's good Bush put this in because it shames France and other countries that their anti-US position enabled this great evil.

It was a great speech. The media had all been predicting that he would grovel somehow--and he did not. He simply reminded the U.N. of their duty and responsibility. I'm guessing the "anchors" are even now seeking ways to play sound bites in such a way that it makes it seem he was groveling. But that was no grovel.

No Sir, it was NOT a mistake for President Bush to go. Read his remarks, he is being presidential and a world leader. He is telling it like it is and many leaders should be slinking out of the chamber with their tails between their legs (assuming frogs once had tails).

As long as we have the United Nations and participate, then we must do our best to make it relevant. Fantastic job, Mr. President.

Thanks for posting the transcript, Mom.

You're right....he never moved off message.

I wish his first line were actually the case - "yesterday in the memory of America." Far too many lib/dems have forgotten....especially the ones running for the presidency.

You think the President can magically make these people in the UN stop hating America just by giving a speech? I'm sure they're all embarrassed and humbled now that Bush has brought their behavior to their attention. I'm sure the Syrians are now slapping their forheads saying "How could we have been so anti-American?"< /sarcasm >

As long as we have the United Nations and participate

That's your problem right there.

Thanks for posting the transcript, PKM! White House is being very helpful, getting these posted early enough to debunk the press accounts.

For those who missed the speech, try to catch it on C-Span. Masterful.

The part I had never really heard about was the sex slave trade business. I had no idea it was that large or was here in the United States -- thought I kept up on the news! Obvious there is a lot going on that is not being reported!

There were several items in his speech which caught me off guard including the 11 countries led by the US being involved in ridding the world of WMDs as part of an organized group.

I heard a bit of Limbaugh's show. He said the President gave his speech then left. President Bush did not stay for Chirac's speech, nor did Rice or Powell.

Nice!

This was one of the best parts to me, too. He was saying to them, "You all wanted to ignore these things because you had lucrative contracts with Saddam. How can you look at yourselves in the mirror? You claim to stand for human rights? Bah!"

I watched the speech on Fox. In his address today, President Bush exeeded the excellence of his address to the U N General Assembly last year.
