FReeper Storm Check-in (vanity)
9-19-03 | me

Posted on 09/19/2003 5:33:24 AM PDT by netmilsmom

Through the week, many of us heard of FReepers who were in the path of Isabel. I personally know Gabz, Corin Stormhands and Consitution Day were in the area. I thought it would be a good idea if we had a thread to ask if someone is ok and let them check in. Prayers to our FRiends in harms way. Thanks!

The electric repair people have been a focus of our prayer. We lost one in NC and I am still hurting from that.
They often have young families and it matters.

Many more are and will remain at risk for weeks. Lots of electricity off in Northern VA, DC and MD (the larger Metro area) as well as out into the Harford Cty,MD area. People are being told weeks rather than days to the fix.

Prayer truly is in order in a sustained manner as many of them are so far away from their families, too. God, have mercy.

No, it's time for a new coffee maker.

The best one was when the pot was still in the dishwasher and I just forgot to put it underneath the hopper. I noticed way to late and ended up with coffee all over the countertop and the floor and everywhere!

A good friend and his wife are now in Medical College of Virginia hospital. Punctured lung, broken legs, head injury, from a tree crashing into their house. But alive, thank god.

Oh wow, saying a prayer for your friend

Daughter in No. Raleigh/Wake Forest said theirs was a non-event, too. They lost power for about 2 hours but all was bearable....we used cell phones.

The maps showed Raleigh somewhat out of the immediately affected areas.

Checking in...from FL...*L* Lemme explain...

Left out of Va Beach with the kids on Tues evening, we're crashed over at a friend's parents house in Melbourne FL. Just waiting for friend's mother in law who stayed behind to call us and give us a status report on our houses. Haven't heard from hubby since Tues afternoon, as they had shoved all the Atlantic fleet boats out to sea.

If all goes well we'll be leaving in the next day or two. Tomorrow we're meeting up with a friend of ours in Orlando, I'll also take this chance to visit my sister who I haven't seen since my now 4 yr old son was a mewling newborn *L*.

Just wanted to let everyone know all is good here, we got out in plenty of time, hopefully we'll have a house to go back to. Stay safe everyone!

Thanks for sharing with us.

I hope your situation improves very soon.

My favorite prayer is "Thank you, God, for a normal day".

The picture of the Fox reporter losing his pants has got to remain a classic along with the 2 reporters who were blown off their "safe" perch in the lee of another building.

Speaking of Wake Forest .....

Do y'all remember that picture that was posted several times on the hurricane thread of the tanker ship with that monster cloud ahead of it?

Well, one of the Charlotte tv stations is inviting people to send in hurricane pictures and they are posting them in slideshows. Someone sent them that picture and another one of the edge of a huge super-cell cloud. The captions to each said something like "Joe Blow [name made up to protect the guilty] sent in this picture from Wake Forest."

For those who don't know, there are two Wake Forests in NC ..... one a small town near Raleigh, the other a university that moved decades ago from the small town from which it derived its name and is now much farther west in Winston-Salem ..... both are well inland and not near any body of water even close to large enough to float such a ship. I started ROFL when I saw the pics.

I sent an email to the station telling them they had been had ...... the picture seemed to be legit but it certainly wasn't from Isabel nor from either Wake Forest .... and it had been all over the internet the day before. I've kept checking the site all day and I see that they've finally changed the captions to "This picture was sent in by Joe Blow" though they are still including the photos in their slideshows.

We're at Landmark in Alexandria, VA and had been without water until about 10PM..(.Fairfax County segment of Alexandria). We are filtering the tap water and plan on heeding the conservation advisory. Water looks brown anyway.

Our small area is remarkable in that we have electricity and nothing upsetting to report other than the inconvenience of water being unavailable for the day.

I know of no one here who uses the tap for drinking so everyone had plenty for cooking and drinking, etc. Can you tell that we feel blessed? And thankful.

Son in Prince William lost nothing at all even in their woods. Said we were welcome to come take showers! They were closer to the eye than we are in Alexandria so that was a welcomed relief.

Spent the AM with rarely seen neighbors piling up branches for the brrrrrrt machine. Still on battery, but the phone line came back on to get online. Monky county MD sporadic power resupply over the next week or so. Eating well from the thawing freezer and BSA equipment designed for just that. Bought new LED headlight for reading.
Gotta thank all you who kept this thread active with info the last several days. The sun is supposed to shine tomorrow. Glad to hear most are doing ok ... maybe we dodged a bullet.

Did you do okay?

Yeah, nothing to complain about at all. Never even lost power. Thankful for that.

Glad you and yours are okay.

Have you heard any reports about the Centreville/Chantilly area? We haven't heard from our daughter since just before 11:00 last night ..... she sent an email but even then she couldn't call because the phones were out. Apparently she lost power soon after sending the email. At this point we are assuming that no news is good news and she's ok but out of communication.

Too funny! Great picture though. I imagine it will show up in one form or another for many hurricanes to come.

Glad to hear you SIL didn't have an MI. Also glad to hear that you are ok too and have just clean up like us. We were VERY lucky here in Raleigh.

After watching the news footage of the damage done elsewhere I thank GOD it turned out well for us here.

Now get some rest woman!! That's an order.
