They just said 95 in NYC. I'd sure hate to be in a subway car right now ... no lights, very hot, people crowded like sardines ... panicing ... not knowing what's going on.

Sure glad I escaped to Florida a few years ago.

The measures in place need to be generators in place and there aren't many new ones of these.

Those pics are strangely reminiscent of 9-11.

All traffic in and out of NY airports completely shut down, reporting now. People abandoning their vehicles. Total gridlock.

Reports that THOUSANDS ARE TRAPPED IN SUBWAYS.....

I was only days old for the 1965 blackout but remember the 1977 version. They keep saying that they are putting measures in place to make sure it never happens again and it keeps happening again.

That was a quarter century without it happening. Are you never happy?!?!?

;^)

It seems like just yesterday that 2 Paki's on the "Do Not Fly" list were arrested at SeaTac. Paid cash, separate flights to NYC, no luggage.

Oh Wait! It WAS yesterday!

Good thing Bloomberg has assured us it isn't terrorism, or I'd be worried.

Odd that 3 NYC hospitals weren't able to fire up their emergency generators...

Interesting that Toledo is down, but Lima--just about 70 miles south--is fine according to my mom.

I'm right between the two - we've had surges, but no outages.

Hard to believe they don't know exactly what the cause is........

Joe they aren't looking at cause per se but rather trying to figure out how to get things patched back together with some bubble gum, duct tape and whatever else they have.... Just restarting the power plants will take some time.

They at some point will begin the process of looking at which relays tripped, when, what sequence and then they will begin to pinpoint the orgin and why...

The Lansing Board of Water and Light says at least 5 hours until power is restored.

That's two hours after dark, isn't it?

Thanks Howlin.
For now we still have power where I am in NJ. It did shut down, but came right back on.

"Sounds like a terror attack to me, all they have to do is hack into the main power grid computers and overload a few transformers and kapoof... power is out ! "

---

I was concerned about the same thing -- we've been reading about the possibility of such attacks. Even more worrisome is what else they might do, using this power outage.
