Mayor Bloomberg saying on CNN that the Con Ed shutdown was normal after overload of Niagara Mohawk station in Canada. NO fire at Con Ed. Normal burnoff producing smoke from smokestack. NO evidence whatsoever of any terrorism. People should go home, open windows, drink water.

I must say Bloomberg is exuding calm here. Very reassuring. Says there is not panic, hospitals have emergency power.

Tv's in the other room. I hear Neil Cavuto talk about Detroit, Ottowa and NYC. Any tin hat wearers show up here yet? I was working on my web site and couldn't break away.

If I may put my tin hat on, could this be payback for power outages in Iraq? Considering the locations and the populations therein, there's an outside chance. Everyone take care. Strictly the eastern grid is having problems. The west is okay. Outages from Toledo to Cleveland.

This is just too darn crazy, isn't it? Now I 'll read this breaking thread after I sound off.

Bloomberg just said on CNN that ConEd automatically shut down, when there is some problem and that's what happened, i.e. it shut down. But they didn't say what is original cause.

Someone else was reporting that they now have "power" in that ConEd office that needs to be burned off since it cannot be used, and that's the source of the "fire."

I have no clue if this explanation has any basis in reality, but it's what some news channel was reporting.

Obviously another million illegals are now stampeding across the AZ border with the news that Bush thinks US illegals should now be REGULARIZED

I want to thank y'all for keeping the breaking reports going.

We at the KY Ops Center are following this, and I'll post something official for you, as soon as it's released.

Right at this hour, Kentucky is clear and operational. We're watching, just like you are.

Sounds more like the blackout that happened in 1965

Actually sounds much more widespread than the 65 blackout.

Greyouts in CA led to the recall.

This blackout sure seems to be convenient for the Democrats to go after Bush in a similar way...

I recently lost power in Howell, MI for about 5 minutes and it came on. Thought nothing of it until I turned on the news. My parent's have power in Brighton too. We both have DTE Edison.

Do all of you have power?

Hey, Joe didn't Grayout Davis go back to NY for a visit recently.

If so, he must have infected their power grid.

>THEY always say that!

"THEY" didn't on 9/11

"THEY" couldn't say that after the second plane struck the WTC. If only one plane had been involved on 9/11, we'd still be hearing about the horrible "accident" that happened that day.
