Aw, rats. In the confusion, I completely forgot to tune in to Dan Blather giving blackout tips to NY'ers that can't see him on television.

Someone I know says he was going on about some p-word like patience or perseverence.

"...and im going to bed!!!"

Sounds like a great plan. Maybe the lights will be back out in the morning.

I have lights, but I should turn them off and follow your example.

Good night, all!

Petronski, you read Heinlein also? Lazarus Long is my favorite character. No other author is as entertaining! Well maybe Ludlum and I just started reading Clancy, so...

I had Blasterworm and it was a shock at first, but the remedy software as swift and complete. Anyway we were without power for 45 hours in July while others without for as long as ten days. Good thing the NE utilities won't have to replace poles, wires and transformers.

"My guess is that there were some other conditions there that made it ripe for this cascading event to occur," said Dagle, who works at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, in Richland, Wash. "Maybe some critical equipment was out of service, or not enough reserve margin was available."

I know that it's hot in the east but was there a known critical strain on the system? And why would Canada first blame lightning, then the United States. I find this really odd, particularly if there were other critical factors in play.

I hope that things are better for y'all tomorrow. We've gone without electricity many times in the past, most notably after Hurricane Hugo. Hope that things are better in the morning.

One thing is for sure you are luckier than those miners that are trapped.

GOD bless.

Excellent point - - entire NE grid dependent on a few power lines from Canada -- I worked for power company in CT for 15 yrs -- company taken over by green ideology -- more interested in selling you an electric lawnmower that "didn't pollute" (what a crock) and wrapping your water heater with insulation than building power plants.

The greens are also slowly killing us with inability to fight West Nile virus due to needless ban on DDT.

"Maybe some critical equipment was out of service, or not enough reserve margin was available."

If I was to take a guess .. it's a little of both

FNC is reporting that the Red Cross is in NY and they are passing out water bottles and or things to the people

Miners Trapped In Salt Mine
All Workers Get Out Unharmed

UPDATED: 11:30 p.m. EDT August 14, 2003

GRAND RIVER, Ohio -- Several miners were trapped Thursday in the Morton Salt Mine in Grand River when the power went out, but they are now safe.

According to NewsChannel5, the miners were about a mile and a half inside the mine. When the power went out, the elevators stopped working.

The miners were trapped for about four to five hours. They did get out about 10 p.m.

One man's wife said that the men did have enough oxygen. She just wanted her husband out safely.

"God, make sure he gets through this OK, that's all I was worried about. Just get him out OK," said Andrea.

All the men are safe.

THE CANADIAN MINERS ARE STILL STUCK THOUGH

Well, if Hillary can blame Enron, why shouldn't Chretien blame the US in general. They are too socialist peas in a pod.

Didn't you know that everything bad that every happens is always Bush's fault, the fault of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy and of course the fault of the US in general.

I just got back home from work - I work in Downtown Manhattan,, a few blocks from Wall st. My apartment is in Downtown area too. The streets are pretty calm here - a lot of police cars patrolling around.

Anyways, I got to get some shut eye and there is no AC in my apt. Grrrr.

Be well.

It would seem that lodging facilities and shelters would open their doors and allow people to stay overnight gratis.
Someone once told me that NYC had bomb shelters, couldn't they let people stay there. How are the people eating and taking care of personal functions?

Is Maine blacked out also?
