4. The Federal Statutory Background of the Electric Power Industry

The Energy Policy Act of 1992 In 1992, President George Bush signed the Energy Policy Act (EPACT). The Act substantially reformed PUHCA and made it even easier for nonutility generators to enter the wholesale market for electricity by exempting them from PUHCA constraints. The law created a new category of power producers, called exempt wholesale generators (EWGs).

The law has been hailed by industry analysts as one of the most significant pieces of legislation in the history of the industry.

I heard that the power companies deliberately shut down their generators so they wouldn't overload once the first event (unknown supposedly) happened. If this is true, they could have overreacted and now it's going to take a good long time to get things up and running.

If they stayed online and fried the generators it would take MONTHS/YEARS to replace them.

You'd let the grid destroy your facility? I'm glad you're not running any power plant I depend on...

That Statue of Liberty picture is so neat.

This morning my five-year-old son told me he had drawn "something very important to America" and produced a very clear drawing of the Statue of Liberty (in bright orange and green markers!). I was so touched and impressed and told him I was saving it. Little did I know just how nice it would be to see the Statue lit up later this very day!
