I still think that there is something fishy, and somehow Hillary is involved.

You know what Miss Marple .. I wouldn't be surprised if she was

Did you listen to that guy bitching about not being able to get home? Jez, just wait around for a couple of hours. And based on his looks I don't think he's going home to a supermodel so just chill.

What a bunch of boobs. Of 16,000 PCs and 875 Windows servers, we had a total of seven (7) infections.

"I can't imagine the system being engineered to allow this, given the ability of computers to react quickly."

I'm particularly wondering about that in light of all we here in CA have learned over the last couple years about the power system and grid, the balancing that's done, the computers involved, etc. But maybe, as another poster said, some of the infrastructure just couldn't handle it.

Very good find! The FBI and DHS have set up whole divisions to protect "critical infrastructure" and we have been warned about just such an attack ever since 9/11. Now 50 mill. people lose power and it is just a technical glitch.

I posted earlier, speculating what a power outage might be prelude for.

Maybe the system simply isn't as up-to-date as some of us, myself included, would tend to expect

I think if we look at it with perspective --- many of our grandparents were in the first generation to even have electricity. I think it's pretty reliable considering those old cities had electricity added to them well after they were already big cities ---and they can't change the whole system in just a few years. Plus we keep adding to our electrical needs ---- 50 years ago, most people didn't have air conditioning and all the appliances they have now. I can see how big systems would start shutting down with power surges tripping breakers.

Actually, that's kind of true. At night they divert more of the water through the power stations. They don't go dry, but there is much less water at night then during the day.

"Well, while the Canadians are looting in Ottawa, apparently New Yorkers are content to flaunt the smoking ban.

I don't want to hear any more about how uncivilized and violent we are here in the States, compared to the wonerful Canadians. HA!"

LOL!! My daughter was just laughing telling me about one of her teachers saying how wonderfully safe Canada is compared to the US... We have been having a good chuckle over some of these posts.

According to my local news .. they worked in the Philly area and that is why we didn't get hit with the blackout

Who is this guy on MSNBC talking that the solution to this problem is DC hookups between stations?

When I saw those throngs in Manhattan on TV today, one of my first thoughts was :"Where will they all go to the bathroom?"

Now if it were Filthydelphia, the answer would be: Anywhere they damn well please.

Well, remember that Liberals leak info like a sieve, so every rumor that floats through gets passed on by some copy boy looking to curry favor with the 1000 hungry media types all fighting for any shred of a new angle/scoop to report. There have been so many suggestions coming out of Canada that I think it is just jumping on every rumor. But I thought I saw a map that showed rain today way up in Quebec(far away from the clear skies of Niagara). And if it was a Canadian power plant that caused this with an incredibly stupid goof, it certainly would serve Chretien's party to float a bunch of bogus rumors as diversions, then when the truth comes out they can backchannel rumors among the Koolaid lib crowd that it was a US frameup and what actually happened was (fill in the blank with one of the previous rumors), just like we all know what REALLY happened in Iraq. So in that way, you could certainly say that they were following one of the Clinton's favorite technique for obfuscation and diverting blame.
