"I can't imagine the system being engineered to allow this, given the ability of computers to react quickly."

I'm particularly wondering about that in light of all we here in CA have learned over the last couple years about the power system and grid, the balancing that's done, the computers involved, etc. But maybe, as another poster said, some of the infrastructure just couldn't handle it.

According to my local news .. they worked in the Philly area and that is why we didn't get hit with the blackout
