This is fun, watching all the excitement and speculation. I'm sure that cooler heads are now working on the problem. God help us if that's not the case.
cavuto just said that the whole city of detroit is w/o power. this is amazing.

And right now all cell phone circuits in this area are busy.

Let me see.
Thousands stuck in elevators, A/C out, thousands stuck in subway trains and elevated rail systems, hospitals and other critical business on generator or closed.
Naw, no big deal, right?

Ocean county went down for just a few minutes but it's back up now. Yeah I forgot you were down that way...we'll have to get together sometime. I'm starting a new job in Bricktown in three weeks.

Phones still working. the phones still worked because they run off of dc and the offices that feed your phone line have huge banks of batteries as well as generator backup for situations like this

Yes, this happened to NYC in the 60's. For a couple days. Hydro Quebec took the grid down.

CNBC said that CNN reported that there is a major fire at the ConEd (Edison?) plant at 14th St in NY.
JFK & LaGuardia also affected. NY stock exchange closed, everyone went home.

He's stating his headphones almost sent a charge through his head There you go. Somehow, all the power on the grid was redirected to this unlucky fellow's headphones. They almost sent the charge through his head, but he was saved by the security power absorbtion circuit, which is still absorbing all that power.
He only need to unplug his earphones, and everything will get back to normal ;).
