Well if all the interconnection ties work properly then they should be able to contain it to some region.... They may have to drop some load to stabilize the system.... Many power plants will have tripped off most likely... It may take some time to bring them back online....

A Con Ed (NYC power company) is on fire in Manhattan. (Probably a surge, not terrorism, so everyone chill.
Toledo and Cleveland also down.
All subways and train service in NYC DOWN.

Still hearnig about smoke coming from Con Ed bulding in NY -- anybody who can verify? This is second-hand from a customer...Not a word about that, but probably not the cause unless Con-ED's control center is ablaze. No single plant outage should do this unless things were at emergency level already. They weren't too bad in Tennessee today, though the load was pretty high when I left the office. We weren't going to set any peak demands today, but up north, it could be different - they may have had some problems that I'm not aware of. Its hard to see what's going on in other areas sometimes.

Nothing in DFW - but it's being reported on KRLD. It's that widespread... now on CBS radio.
To: Cobra64
Noted. Connecticut seems to be up to the east of Bridgeport. Answering machines are working in West Haven and Shelton.

WOW--this is big.
I was a little bugger during the big blackout in the 60's. Thought it was all my fault. I was fiddling with the forbidden television knobs when everything went dark. Please don't tell my mother.

Hit the showers. This time, it IS series!

This is fun, watching all the excitement and speculation. I'm sure that cooler heads are now working on the problem. God help us if that's not the case.
