VICE PRESIDENT CHENEY:
U.S. Energy Association Efficiency Forum Washington, D.C. June 13, 2001
"The report we issued last month presented more than 100 recommendations covering virtually the entire range of concerns that face the American people. One of the concerns, obviously, is the aging power grid and the growing problem that we have in getting electricity from the power plant to the light switch. It's clear that we must upgrade and expand the power grid. If we put more connections in place, we'll go a long way towards avoiding future blackouts. Another broad aim is to increase energy supplies from diverse sources; from oil and gas, renewables, coal, hydro and nuclear. This is the kind of balanced approach we think is essential if we're going to meet the country's energy needs down the road and take care of many of our other concerns, especially with respect to the environment."

Kentucky? Are you sure? VERY sure. My duty station is the State Operations Center, where I am now. I get the first-responder reports from all over the state, not to mention the National Guard - which is NOT getting called out, BTW.
That's why our ears perked up when Fox mentioned Cincinatti was out. Covington is right across the Ohio.
That's all we've got, just the one county and community downriver. Might be unrelated to the current event, but like one FReeper said, the other grids might be affected, too...

Yeah, I've never seen a prank call go that long on national TV. The guy must have gotten at least 2 minutes.

That's a rather disquieting thought. A needed thought, but unplesant none the less. I hadn't thought of that one.

"I heard that if he speaks at all it will be during his fundraiser."
That might be the most expedient thing, get the media there that was already going to be there, then speak to the crisis.

Expert feels it's ridiculous to say it's definitely not terrorism."You bet, I thought they were a little premature saying it wasn't.

Expert said it would take a couple of weeks for cyber forensic specialists to determine what went wrong.

My normal 20 min. ride home took me 1 1/2 hours. I work in a major industrial area in Solon, OH (about 20 mi. S of Cleveland). It would have been much worse if several brave civilians hadn't been directing traffic. I was surprised to get home and find that I have electricity. It seems I'm right on the line where the outages end because my neighbors do not have power. My husband, who just ran up to the corner to get gas, called and said the lines were outrageous because everyone was rushing to the nearest working station to fill up. Stay safe all.

"THEY" didn't on 9/11 Well, the CNN news droids did for a while. For about 15 minutes after the second plane hit they were still babbling about "navigation error" or "sun in the pilots eyes" long after every other network was saying, "this is deliberate".

The only reason I was forced to repeat myself was to contend with the "nothing to see here" crowd like Diddle E.
I'll just wait it out.
If it's not terrorist related, then bully.
If it is, I'll be the first to be back here with an "I told you so" post. Count on it.

Yeah, we are watching 3 TVs and all went black for three seconds here on the west coast. Everything fine now.
