ArnoldGovernor.net (correct thread)

CALLING ALL Arnold Schwarzenegger Supporters:

I am announcing the creation of ArnoldGovernor.net . I have reserved the domain, but the site is up right now at a temporary URL which can be seen here (www.elephantparty.com). I am a Californian and a conservative - and I can say with certainty that Arnold represents the best chance we have of claiming California's governorship. I am posting this site for your review.

First, the others in the race. Bill Simon and Tom McClintock are both fine men, but they have lost important statewide races in the past. Simon lost a race against Davis last year which should have been a cakewalk given Davis' record. Most political analysts agree that Simon ran one of the worst campaigns in recent memory. McClintock is a virtual unknown statewide (let's not get fooled by our own echo chamber). The KEY to remember is that we have

Only 2 months (8 weeks) until Election Day. There is NO time to run someone who Californians have rejected in the past or a virtual unknown. For those who have leaned towards either of them, I'm appealing to your sense of reason to get behind someone with the best shot of winning. Now, why should we elect Arnold?

Arnold is a fiscal conservative but moderate otherwise. His stance on abortion will matter less than you might think- that's a matter for Supreme Court justices which the California governor has no say about. He is pro-business, pro-entrepreneurship, and tough on crime (witness his Proposition 49 which aims to reduce juvenille crime - a major, largely unaddressed component of crime). He is an "American by choice" and is very patriotic. People look at him and think "It's okay to be a Republican". With Schwarzenegger pulling a Total Recall on Grey Davis, Bush may actually find that California is friendly territory in 2004.

I am looking for pro-Arnold supporters to help:

1. Pitching Arnold's candidacy

2. Graphics design- create compelling visuals that are pro-Arnold or anti-Davis

3. Anyone else that wants to be pinged for pro-Arnold events.

4. Coming up with good one liners, spin, updates, opposition research, etc.

Let's team up! Thanks!!

Once I get your suggestions, I will update the site and in a few days, it will be at ArnoldGovernor.net . Thanks all Freepers for your help.

In an ironic twist, Gray Davis entered the "Mr Puniverse" bodybuilding Contest.

How about endorsing a real conservative instead of a RINO?

If you're unfamiliar with his stand on the issues, there's plenty of reading material here:

http://republican.sen.ca.gov/web/mcclintock/issues.asp

We spent this much time, effort and money on getting Davis recalled. Let's not replace him with "Davis Lite" who supports such causes as affirmative action, gun control and other Liberal platforms.

McClintock is a nobody.
NO name recognition.

So "name recognition" is everything, eh?

Tell that to Walter Mondale.

McClintock will lose. He has ZERO chance of being elected and will lose by a large margin just like the last time he ran for statewide office. This whole business of labeling people RINO's to end debate is getting tired- Arnold can win the governorship (unlike McClintock, Simon) and will be a financial conservative. His stance on abortion won't matter since he doesn't appoint Supreme Court justices. We don't need purists to take us down the same road of failure again.

Poor analogy. Mondale had name recognition but was behind the times. In contrast, Arnold is the perfect populist candidacy- a man who speaks to the people and doesn't represent either fringe in the political continuum. Wake up to reality in California- you're not going to get a Pat Robertson conservative in the governor's office.

I am not a Californian (and considering the road that state has been heading down, thank goodness for that) but just giving my opinion--the poster has stated all the reasons why all republicans/conservatives should unite behind Arnold--and I for one find those arguments very sound. Arnold may not be the "ideal" gop candidate, but he's the best California can likely get right now, and he's well known, is larger than life, is very savvy and has the type of persona that can inspire, this could be the beginnings of a good thing for the state, certainly he can't do worse than Davis.

The critics can say what they want to about Arnold, but it's refreshing to hear somebody talking about the issues and an enthusiam about the task ahead.

I look forward to the candidate that will take on Reid in Nevada, I hope he comes with that type of enthusian and hope for Nevada.

I am not altogether sure that Arnold's stance on abortion is what you could call "pro baby killer" as I have seen floating around here tonight.

I think he would say "not true." And I think he will.
That said, America is still a pro choice nation and california more so. At least Arnold KNOWS what children ARE... Davis doesn't.

The "hes a rino baby killer" slur is wearing a little thin.
The way to end abortion may NOT be a "protest on every corner" "criminalize every act" approach. Look at the WOD... Has it really cut down on drug use statistically?

Arnold would be a positive step in the right direction.. and he may grow more conservative in moral issues, AFTER he is in a position to confront them for a while longer. Reagan wasn't always a democrat. Hubert Humphrey's position on many things, would be to the right of president Bush, if HH were alive today.

Change and growth take time. Arnold is the man of the hour. I wish him well.

Usually you have a level-head on your shoulders, but this candidacy is a cancer that needs to be radiated before it spreads. Enough is enough. No RINO Governor has ever done any good in ANY state. Use your website to do some good and expose this leftist fraud and to promote a real Republican in Tom McClintock. Do it before it's too late.

Schwarzenegger's instincts are good as far as realizing what the Dems have done to the state stinks.  He fires off some pretty good sound-bytes.

It will be interesting to watch him weave his course over the next 61 days.

Wish mcClintock had a chance. I heard him on Larry Elder and he was quite good. Unfortunately I really don't think he can win. I'm tired of losing and I've voted for the conservative in every election for the past 7 years. I'm going for Arnold because I understand he has a business degree and he's managed his own money fairly well.

Tell that to Walter Mondale.

Hey everybody, Jay is recycling this same weak comeback on other threads as well. Guess he figures a Hitlerian "Big Lie" will work if repeated often enough.

With Arnold in, Gray is definitely out.

I'm looking for a US Senator McClintock, or Issa or Simon --- to kick the begeezus out of Boxer.

One consolation is that McClintock may decide to get out of the race, and try later maybe with Arnie's endorsement. He sounds like a good candidate but he is so unknown that a short race of two months just isn't enough. If Arnold wins he could appoint him to a state post that would give him higher recognition next time around.

Actually, this is the perfect kind of race for a candidate like McClintock. Name ID is likely to be less important than real on-the-ground grassroots organization.

Personally, I refuse to give any support to a candidate like Schwarzennegger who supports abortion and the further erosion of our unalienable rights, particularly the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

I don't know how any true conservative can countenance it.

You have to vote your conscience, but I don't believe a pro-life conservative would ever be elected governor of California. It certainly would help Bush while campaigning there to have a popular Republican governor at his side.
