France Aims to Double Exports to U.S. - Newspaper

PARIS (Reuters) - Undaunted by calls for a boycott of French goods in the United States to punish Paris for its anti-war stance on Iraq (news - web sites), France aims to more than double its share of the American market. "We want to increase our market share in this country (the United States) from 2.2 percent to 5.2 percent," French Trade Minister Francois Loos told daily Le Figaro in an interview printed on Wednesday. He added that the United States was the first of 25 countries where France wanted to increase its market share. However, Loos said there had been some fallout for French businesses from Paris's vocal refusal to back the U.S.-led war in Iraq. "In consumer goods, which make up 10 percent of our sales in the United States, companies are talking with buyers from U.S. department stores, and the latter are reluctant to promote French goods," Loos said.

Chirac's opposition to the Iraq war opened a deep rift between France and the United States as well as within Europe

Perhaps I can help Chirac understand the PERMANENT change in U.S. sentiment:

1. french President Jacques Chirac, personally helped Iraq begin its nuclear program.
2. france assisted China in shipping raw materials for chemical weapons to Iraq through Syria.
3. french security services helped suppress opposition groups seeking to depose Saddam Hussein.
4. The french had supplied Iraq with precision switches for nuclear weapons.
5. french companies had resupplied Iraq with spare parts for fighter jets on the eve of the March 2003 invasion. Intelligence reports indicated that Iraq was able to obtain French military spare parts for its Mirage jets and Gazelle attack helicopters in violation of U.N. sanctions.
6. The french helped Iraqi officials escape U.S. capture by issuing them EU passports. The passports allowed the Iraqis to evade detection by U.S. military and intelligence agencies because they were EU travel documents.
7. Intelligence officials said France attempted to conclude an oil deal with Saddam's government days before U.S. military action began March 19.
8. french anti-aircraft weapons smuggled into Iraq prior to the war, the Roland 3 batteries, and Roland 5 shoulder-fired anti-air missiles. Reports have still not been denied that these systems were stamped '2002 date of manufacture.' 9. The french peddled disinformation against the Americans before the war -- this is a war for oil, Resolution 1441 does not authorize military action, George Bush is "cowboy," etc. -- at the very least, they now deserve some of their own.

Those countries who stood against us before the Iraq War are responsible for EVERY life lost in Iraq -- whether the lives be coalition lives or Iraqi lives. france, more than any other country, is responsible for all the deaths of our warriors.

france had an unemployment rate of 9.3% last month (April 03). It’s rising. Can we help them push it over 10%? 20%?. The new reality show on FOX this fall could be the marxists, socialists, and fundamentalist muslim imports (they are about 10% of the population and growing) burning paris to the ground. You can help:

WE SHOULD NEVER FORGET!

Gotta keep this alive. Share this link with all like minded family and friends. They are feeling the heat.

15000 french products that you can boycott:

Me too! I ain't buying either! On another note, why do I have the gut feeling that the Olympic committee chose Canada to rub our noses in it?! Aussie land would have been perfect! S. Korea would of too! Canada was one of the forces against the US war in Iraq! And I believe that the US was opting to make a bid for the yr. 2012 I think. The committee will not consider NY because of the location to close to canada. O.C likes to spread or pick their locations accross the globe. So it seems that the US is out of the running! I smell an ANTI-America note here!

I cringe everytime we go to the grocery store. My wife ALWAYS buys Dannon or Yoplait yogurt, and I always say "I wish you'd stop that" (She's Japanese and has some fixation on France, the French)

Please, is there any other yogurt company out there? If I can find an alternative, she might go for it. I'd hate to have to divorce her so early in our marriage.

I have no doubt that the thugs who controlled Iraq and who control Iran/Syria have invested heavily in these French companies.

The next question is how many of these French Companies are heavily invested in Rat Politicians, A.N.S.W.E.R. and other phoney non profits who work 24/7 against America.

On another note, why do I have the gut feeling that the Olympic committee chose Canada to rub our noses in it?

I don't think so for several reasons. Vancouver has been the odds on favorite for some time, and the technical and theme considerations take place over a prolonged period of time (more than a year, I believe).

First, Vancouver and particularly Whistler have significant existing facilities. Whistler is an unquestionably world class ski resort with a great tourist infrastructure as it is. Some upgrading to the villiage will no doubt be necessary but there's a very strong base to start from. It's only two hours from Vancouver, a trip that should be easier and shorter once the highway between the two is upgraded. You also have accomodations and communications facilities in place capable of hosting something of this scale, regularly tested by World Cup events.

Time zones play a part, no doubt, as well. The S.Korea summer Olympics were a ratings disaster. As well, I'm unsure if they have any existing facilities for Alpine events nearly good enough, and there's no history of Korea hosting major winter spectacles (Calgary worked great OTOH). There's also the sticky little issue of North Korea that could screw things up big. South Korea is also known for its massive strikes, and with the problems getting Athens ready the IOC may be hyper-sensitive about taking a similar chance elsewhere. Recall that Bejing gets the summer games in 08 as well so there's the IOC's desire to move the games between continents on top of all else.

Hockey and Ice Skating are the big TV draws for the games, and Vancouver will be able to ensure top quality ice surfaces for both. Canadian ice technicians are often used by Olympic cities for prep and maintenance (remember the Candian Loonie hidden under the center ice face off circle in SLC?) so they'll already be on site. Plus, and this is a big one, the CBC has major broadcasting assets in Vancouver to provide feeds to other broadcasters, and the fact is no one can do winter sports like they can (especially skating and hockey).

If there were any political aspects to the decision I would suspect its stemming more from the pairs ice skating fiasco in SLC. That was hugely embarassing for the IOC and the French suffered a lot of prestige inside the upper levels of the IOC for their actions. I don't think they're influence is what it was. Additionally, Toronto was beaten for the 08 summer games by Bejing, in a selection that is widely believed to be a pre-ordained result engineered by Samarach as his "parting gift" to China. This could have been seen as a way to make up for that decision, one that many in the Olympic movement were none to happy about.

The only thing that I see as a negative in this is the fact that it does make it harder for NYC to get the 2012 summer games, and makes any attempt by Toronto to continue seeking them basically pointless. Still, NYC games have the attraction of pretty much guaranteed TV ratings and U.S.-style hype, so the fact that while still in North America NY has the advantage of not being in Canada. There's still reason to hope for NY in 2012 if the bid is strong enough.
