Motorcycle was clocked at 157mph, court told

A motorcyclist was recorded travelling at 157mph as he flashed past a police camera, followed by a friend doing 148mph, a court was told yesterday.
It is believed to be the highest speed recorded on a British road and both riders were warned to expect a stiff penalty after pleading guilty to dangerous driving.

The men, both 29, were said not to be racing each other. Andrew Osborne, from Leamington Spa, Warwicks, who was clocked at 157mph, and Neil Bolger, from Gaydon, Warwicks, must wait until next month to find out their sentence, but were given interim driving disqualifications.
Magistrates in Aylesbury, Bucks, heard that the men were spotted on the A421 near Buckingham speeding through an underpass on a dual carriageway noted as an accident blackspot. The road had a 70mph limit.
Theresa Murphy, prosecuting, said they overtook a lorry on a sweeping bend before being caught by the speed trap.
Darren Rogers, defending Osborne, a master technician, argued that the case should be dealt with by magistrates and not referred to the Crown Court.
Nicholas Devine, defending Bolger, a lorry driver, said that although he was travelling at excessive speed there were no aggravating features. "There is no evidence of alcohol or drugs," he said.
The case was adjourned for four weeks for reports.

But it's not precisely a springer front fork, at least not in the image of the Harley or Indian springers. It looks to be more akin to the BMW Earles leading link unit, if a good bit prettier and less bulky than those or the British *Dauntless* competition leading link front forks oft used for sidecar racing bikes and available for street machines.

Probably from a few forthcoming posts on this thread along those lines, following a Hooligan ping, and with links to organizer and event websites [there was a pretty fair sized one in Austin Texas a couple of weekends back, and one in New Hampshire as well.]
I'd suggest one of the *neverending info* FReeper threads, along the lines of a couple of the other FReeper perpetual posts, maybe with specific event updates and reports, along the lines of the way the FReeper canteen works. But a couple of different formats are likely possible, depending on the intrerest generated.

True, a Harley can only exceed 100Mph if it is being towed by Honda that cost 1/3rd the price.
Which I *think* makes it a *trailing-link* front suspension unit rather than a leading link, but that third leg kind of throws me. And I'll happily admit that I'm no expert on front suspension designs designed much after the Brampton and Girdraulics of the 1940s, though I've been into some Cerianis. But it is at least an interesting setup; I hope those who set them up and keep them in proper adjustment for their intended use know what the he!! they're all about.
Even that radiator shroud on the Rune is reasonably well-done. I'm not much of a fan of liquid cooled motorbikes, but the Rune seems to manage to do it without looking like the back end of a refrigerator.

I've never ridden a Val, much less the Rune, so I can't say firsthand. But long ago, I helped a pal shoehorn a Volkswagen engine into the frame of his Marusho, whose BMW boxer-engine copy had crapped out. Smoother even than a 750 Honda, Indian straght 4 or Ariel *Square 4*. His application was for use as a sidecar bike, but it was a lot of fun as a solo ride while setting it up.
Modern aftermarket styling, however, is not limited to Hondas, not by a long shot. I'm reminded of some of Raymond Lowey's styling designs, from the Pennsylvania Railroad's T-1 locomotive to the Studebaker Avanti...and the paint job on the first Air Force One.
I've decided to rename my motorcycle: The V-Mybigpenis.
Not if it was a P11. But then they wouldn't be getting photos of it with Big Brother's SpyCams.
