A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

~ Billie, dansangel, dutchess, Mama_Bear

How precious we Creatures Great and Small are. We bring fun, laughter and comfort to you, our human family and friends. . .. and yes . . . aggravation too! We hope you enjoy this weeks thread and invite you let us feature your special furry (or not so furry) FinestPet.

A Dream of a Lifetime…Our President's Pets…the Exclusive Interview!!!!!

Hello FR friends….what a special interview I have for you folks! I was lying on the couch trying to decide who to feature this week…WHEN . . . the phonecall came. FreetheHostages and the DC chapter came through and got me an exclusive interview with the Presidential Pets…Does it get much better?
I arrived bright and early, just in time to watch our beloved president take his morning jog. The lovely Laura greeted me at the entry of the residence, picked me up and planted a big kiss on the top of my head. (swoon) Spot soon came out to greet me and we settled in the kitchen for a little snack. Great food and let me tell you she is a babe (right…you all thought Spot was a guy . . . NOT!)

Gizmo: Spot can tell I'm quite nervous…just don't know where to start. Imagine ME speechless. Anyway, I finally asked how she felt when she moved to the Whitehouse.
Spot: I was pretty nervous about the move and kind of sad cause I really love our ranch. When we got here I couldn't believe how BIG the place was. In a way it was exciting…so many rooms to explore…but…so different from my lovely home in Texas.

Gizmo: So what were the first moments like…your mom and dad were probably pretty busy and didn't have much time for you.
Spot: Actually, I started searching the house looking for tennis balls and bones and was surprised at how familiar the place smelled. It was as if I had been there before. Dad was walking around with me…wanting to make sure I was okay. I nudged him on the ankle and he said to me, "Well, Spotty, how does it feel to be living again in the same house where you were born?" Then it all made dog sense. This big house is the place where I was born on March 17, 1989. My mother, Millie, took care of me and my brothers and sisters before Mom and Dad took me to their house in Texas.
Gizmo: What a cool story….so what does it feel like being "the first pet" so to speak.
Spot: Well…mom and dad are gone more than before…but they always have time for us and all the people that work here at the Whitehouse are pretty cool. AND…we all just love our military detail. There's nothing cooler than getting off marine one and watching dad and our proud soldier salute.

Gizmo: So tell me a little about your brother and sister.
Spot: Well…here comes Barney now…what a handful my little brother was when he first came here!

Barney: (running into the room) Hey Giz…here I am. Hope Spotty isn't telling tales…(hehe) get it…tales/tails????
Gizmo: Geesh!
Barney: I was born on September 30, 2000 in New Jersey and am the son of Coors, a Scottish Terrier owned by then Governor Christine Todd Whitman. I was a gift to my lovely mom.
Gizmo: So you were already around during the big election debacle.
Barney: Well yes…but mom and dad are pretty focused and they always found time for us and didn't let on if things were bothering them. Although Spot missed the ranch…I LOVED moving to the Whitehouse. All those reporters who tried to bribe me with cookies. I even lifted my leg on one or two of them. (I heard dad and Uncle Cheney call one of them something like Climber or Clymer????…….)

Spot: It was SO embarrassing…
Gizmo: Well, I HAVE to ask…did you get a chance to meet your predecessors?
Spot: Socks and Buddy?
Gizmo: Yeah.
Spot: (Barney and Spot glance at each other knowingly) You know, it was really kind of sad because Buddy and Socks were really quite nice. It was obvious that they were quite lonely and didn't get much love or attention. You could tell that they envied the obvious love bestowed on us from mom and dad.
Barney: Socks was really happy when they gave her away.

Spot: We were really sad to hear that Buddy was hit by the car.
Barney: (with a devilish grin) Except he's much better off up at Rainbow Bridge and you know that he won't have to worry about Bill and Hillary following them there. Where they will end up is NO PLACE CLOSE TO OUR BELOVED RAINBOW BRIDGE!!!!!!!
Spot: Now Barney…mom, dad AND GRANDPA BUSH would not want you talking that way!
(suddenly India slinks into the room for a bite of food)

India: Hey Gizmo, I heard you were visiting.
Gizmo: Hey India. So what's it like for you living in the Whitehouse.
India: Pretty cool…I spend most of my time playing hide-n-seek with the staff, hanging in the library…mom and my favorite room, or sleeping under the bed.
Gizmo: So…how'd you get your name? I read somewhere that the "Indians" found it offensive that you were named after them.
India: Another example of political correctness run amuck. Actually my nickname is Willie. I was named after former Texas Ranger baseball player, Ruben Sierra, who was called "El Indio"
Gizmo: Just then Laura returns, says it's getting late and invites me to spend the night. She puts me on her lap and starts reading "Hank the Cowdog" . . . Spots favorite book. Oh what a wonderful day this has been.

Gizmo: Sigh…I'll enjoy spending the night on lovely Laura's lap….
LATER THAT MORNING . . . .
Codee: Hey Gizzy…wake up…we must have fallen asleep on the couch…come on…it's time to go to bed….Gosh…you've been sleeping for hours!!!!
Gizmo: (sigh)….you mean…oh darn…it was just a dream….no …it can't be…it seemed so real!!!!
Codee: Gizmo….what this….how on earth did you ever get in a picture with our President and Spot and Barney???? How in the world???????

Gizmo: (grin)….On the Finest....all things are possible…..
So here you have it Finest Friends. Hope you enjoy this week's edition of All Creatures Great and Small! As for me...I'm going to take a nap and re-live this wonderful day!

It's a real shame that Karen Carpenter isn't with us anymore.

I know of many that share your sentiments. She had a smooth, soothing voice. Unfortunately, I was into the Rolling Stones (absolutely rabid fan) at the time and her style was not one that I was interested in.

I'm *over* the Stones (they really need to retire!) and now follow the "alternative" music scene. So, I guess Karen Carpenter was just not meant to be in my circle of musical tastes. She was excellent at what she did, though - no doubt about that.

I *LOVE* the gearhead graphic! :-)

That is so totally unfair, FreeTheSausages,
makin' fun of me....

What the viewer can't see is that Sistah Nan pinched me
and took my doll, givin' me her raggedy old bear
just before it was taken.
Of course I was cryin'!!

This is darling! But--

I made the mistake of reading it to Weinie and now I've "read it again!" ten times. She as an insatiable appetite for all things four-legged.

Perhaps an Ode is appropriate here - -

"An Ode to Milkbone-Brand Dog Biscuits"
written by Dusty the Passmore Poodle

"Oh, Milkbone, lovely Milkbone,
you are the best by far!
In the land of doggie snacks
you are my shining star!

I love to hold you 'tween my paws
and sniff your meaty savor.
And when I sink my teeth in you
I love your crunchy flavor!

Oh, Milkbone, lovely Milkbone,
for you I'll beg and whine
until they open up that box
and I begin to dine!

How many Milkbones I have had
there simply is no telling.
They make my teeth all sparkly clean
and keep my breath from smelling!

Oh, Milkbone, lovely Milkbone,
I'm crazy, so it seems.
'Cause everytime I sleep at night
I chase you in my dreams!

I'll have to have my Milkbones
every day until I die
and then I'll have more Milkbones
in my home beyond the sky.

So Milkbone, lovely Milkbone,
no other snack can beat you.
That's why I wrote this, just to say:
it's such a treat to eat you!"

Oh, dutchess, you are amazing (or should I say Giz is?!) This is just too, too cute. I had no idea how you were going to work this, but it is absolutely priceless! What fun this thread provides for us each week - we just all love our precious animals so much, and Giz is quite the reporter. :)

So sorry you had problems with everything. I noticed that your welcome/ping post appeared twice. Yesterday, Valerie and Julie each had one that POSTED 4 TIMES!!!!! (and there were some in between, too!) Strange stuff!

Gizmo and Dutchess and Billie

Gizmo, I see you finally got the 'top billing' you deserve. It wasn't fair that you'd do all the work and others would take credit. :-)

But let's have no more dream sequences. I don't blame you Gizmo, it was probably dutchess' idea. LOL!

Windshield case attracts spotlight - Mallard trial
focuses natl media, legal eye on FW courts again

06/18/2003

By LAURIE FOX and DAVE LEVINTHAL / The Dallas Morning News

FORT WORTH – When it comes to trying highly publicized court cases, Tarrant County jurors get plenty of practice.

Sensational murder defendants such as Cullen Davis, Diane Zamora and Robert Neville have stood trial in Fort Worth, greeted by a crush of TV cameras and curious courtroom spectators.

Legal observers expect the glare of national media – and the challenges that come with it – to return this week as the "windshield case" begins in state district court.

Known more for the circumstances of the crime rather than the defendant herself, the trial of former nurse's aide Chante Mallard has kept those involved keenly aware of its visibility.

Ms. Mallard, 26, is accused of striking a homeless man with her car in October 2001. She allegedly drove home with Gregory Biggs entangled in her windshield, leaving him to die on the car in her garage. Police arrested Ms. Mallard and charged her with murder and tampering with evidence four months after they found Mr. Biggs' body in a south Fort Worth park.

"I've been in criminal law for 30 years and I've never seen any case like this," said George Dix, law professor at the University of Texas at Austin. "It's so difficult to believe how a person could fail to help, to take action at any time after hitting the man."

Jury selection begins Wednesday in state District Judge James Wilson's court.
