Darned if I know. It is pure insanity. The stuff they huff is POISON, i.e. gasoline vapors, spray paint, various solvents and chemicals.

My 20 year old daughter just bought her first house. So, on the way to pick up a bottle of wine for her, I'll need to pick up some spray paint or super glue?

I think the wine should be sufficient to celebrate the purchase. I really don't think you'll need to engage in "huffing" as well.

You're from Canada you don't count ;-)

Yeah given the way the laws are going none of the hobbies I was pushed to as a kid can be done without your parents there at all times. Anything that involves glue better than Elmer's or paint is out, bunsen burners are considered drug paraphenalia half the time so forget the chemistry set, rocket engines are being treated like dynamite. So we get a bunch of bored kids that are already assumed to be criminals deciding to act the part. And we're supposed to be shocked?

yet no one has ever actually met some one that compulsively does it.

EVER seen that episode of COPS where thay happen upon a bona fide drug den where all the occupants in the basement have their faces planted in rags soaked in Toluene and NONE of them are in the least coherent?

They pull back the rag on one girl and she simply 'reacts' to pull the rag back to her face.

I have NEVER seen such depravity in my life ...

I agree with you.....but I'd like the "enter contracts and vote" eligibility to be moved back to age 21.....and going to WAR can remain VOLUNTARY.

And you've got to contemplate cause and effect. Why are the 18 to 21 year olds so dumb? They didn't used to be dumb. Maybe a society telling them they're dumb via restrictive regulation has made them dumb. I know when I turned 18 I didn't feel like an adult, with all the things I still wasn't allowed to do it felt more like a trial-adulthood, do "adult-lite" for a couple of years and maybe I'll get promoted. I didn't start feeling grownup until 25 or so, a person really can't embrace maturity until they've had a chance to screw up and pay the price.

100 to 125 deaths a year

Yeah, that's justifies denying the sale of basic household products to a 20-year old homeowner.

I dont get it. They ban everything that is harmful but overlook the greatest killer of all: the automobile.

But how much does that actually happen out in the world? That's the problem with this term "epidemic" all kinds of things are "epidemic" that 90% will only ever see on TV. I'm sure somebody out there is finding a way to get high off of just about anything, it's the corollary to the Wojciehowicz rule (point to any random object in the Sears catalog and somebody wants to have sex with it), but is it really a problem that requires legal action? I've got my doubts.

When we were kids we didn't give a damn about that kind of stuff. Anybody was thought to be a sniffer was a laughing stock retard. What happened?

I won't be satisfied until each and every product that can in any way harm anyone is completely banned.

I don't need to go to Lowe's for this. Now that I'm in my mid-40s, I get many of the same sensations by standing up too quickly.

In emergency services, I've made calls on several people sniffing. Totally brain-fried individuals, usually.

Don't worry.....they'll get to it soon enough. In Washington, the State....they're working at getting everyone on buses or light rail.....no matter what it costs.

I think it has been longer than a year. I know I haven't bought spray paint in at least 2 years... but the last time I did buy some at Walmart, they checked my age.

From the low rate of deaths per year (100-125 according to the story) huffing is still considered the activity of morons. Laws to prevent the sale of chemicals to teens were nothing more than feel good, big brother, make-soccer-mom-feel-good gestures.

Sure they were.
All kids become dumb as rocks with the onset of puberty.
They lack the maturity to excercise responsible judgement in their own best self-interest.
Discipline and self-restraint need to be imposed upon them so that they learn to behave responsibly as adults. "Spare the rod and you spoil the child".

They've got to be the bottom end of the doper food chain. You're in a good spot to judge, of the people coming in with serious psycho-active problems what's the percentage that are huffers compared to hopheads, cokers and alcoholics? I was in that crowd during my wild youth and the closest I ever encountered was a guy really into rush (some sort of semi-legal THC-ether combo that really messed you up for about 5 minutes), most of us would take a sniff of glue or whatever if it came across our vision in normal life but it never became a lifestyle for anybody that's what pot was for.
