Garofalo Awards Announced at White House Press Dinner
NewsMax.com ^ | Saturday, April 26, 2003 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 04/26/2003 9:20:19 PM PDT by kristinn

Comedienne-turned-antiwar activist Janeane Garofalo will be among those honored at a ceremony sponsored by the Washington, D.C. Chapter of FreeRepublic.com outside tonight's annual White House Correspondents Association Dinner.

The first annual "Garofalo Awards" ceremony will spotlight celebrities who distinguished themselves in recent months with "histrionic predictions of gloom and doom before and/or during Operation Iraqi Freedom [and who] stand head and shoulders above all others for their shrillness, certainty and apocalyptic ravings," a FreeRepublic spokesman told NewsMax.

The award itself - a stuffed ready-to-eat crow on a silver platter - will be given to the top 10 celebrity activists, politicians, pundits and reporters based on votes of FreeRepublic members.

Winners include Garofalo herself, who was the top vote getter based on her bizarre pre-war observation, "We are doomed if we go into this war into the heart of the Arabian world with a U.S. led effort against world opinion. We are doomed if we do this."

CNN news executive Eason Jordan followed in second place, for his recent confession in a New York Times op-ed piece that he and his network covered-up firsthand accounts of Saddam Hussein's torture and execution of innocent civilians.

Other Garafalo Awards winners include:

* Fired NBC and National Geographic reporter Peter Arnett

* Former U.N. weapons inspector Scott Ritter

* Actor Tim Robbins

* Columnist Helen Thomas

* Former President Bill Clinton

Clinton is being honored with a Garofalo for his for remarks to a New York business group last week, where he accused the U.S. of trying to bully the world.

"Our paradigm now seems to be: something terrible happened to us on September 11, and that gives us the right to interpret all future events in a way that everyone else in the world must agree with us," Clinton told the Conference Board. "And if they don't, they can go straight to hell."

Each Garofalo Award recipient will also receive a bottle of red wine vinegar to help wash down the crow dinner.

I was rooting for George Galloway. But the revelations about him came after. If it had just been a few days later I bet he would have made it.

Next year you might have a special category winner for international nominees. Its doubtful that any of them could win mixed in with US nominees. Galloway and Chirac types should not be left out.

The addition of the wine vinegar to help 'wash down the crow' was brilliant!

Make that French wine Vinegar.

"I'm proud to say that I don't know who Garofalo is."

Go to Taco Bell and have a couple of their burritos...

The next morning, voila -- you're taking a 'Garofalo.'

you know, i thot that with xxxlinton gone my attitude might ease up on him, but i find that he makes me grind my teeth more and more everyday

Take heart in the fact that Bubba is just trying to work on that legacy thing, but the results are that he screws himself over and over. America's opinion of his bubbaship sinks ever so slowly, yet constantly, like a great ship that struck the iceberg of reality and is taking in water -- call it the Clintanic

Speaking of SCott Ritter, I just hope the paperwork is found in Iraq that shows he was on the take ala Labourite Galloway of GB.

It's the only reason he did a 180--well, unless he's just completely nuts, which is a distinct possibility.

The "Awards" themselves were top notch. Very artistic presentation of what appeared to be a real plate of crows.

Hey TT .....How ya doing ? Hope all is well ! BTW heres and E-mail I want to share !!

Subject: Compare the Brave Entertainers of 1943 with today's Stars

The Entertainers of 2003 have been in all of the news media lately.

It seems that Newspapers, Television and Radio has been more than ready to put them and their message before the public.

I would like to remind you of what the entertainers of 1943 were doing, (60 years ago). Most of these brave men have since passed on.

Alec Guinness (Star Wars) operated a British Royal Navy landing craft on D-Day.

> > > > > >

James Doohan ("Scotty" on Star Trek) landed in Normandy with the U.S. Army on D-Day.

> > > > > >

Donald Pleasance (The Great Escape) really was a R.A.F. pilot who was shot down, held prisoner and tortured by the Germans.

> > > > > >

David Niven was a Sandhurst graduate and Lt. Colonel of the British Commandos in Normandy.

> > > > > >

James Stewart flew 20 missions as a B-24 pilot in Europe.

> > > > > >

Clark Gable (Mega-Movie Star when war broke out) was a waist gunner flying missions on a B-17 in Europe.

> > > > > >

Charlton Heston was an Army Air Corps Sergeant in Kodiak.

> > > > > >

Earnest Borgnine was a U.S. Navy Gunners Mate 1935-1945.

> > > > > >

Charles Durning was a U.S. Army Ranger at Normandy.

> > > > > >

George C. Scott was a U.S. Marine.

> > > > > >

Eddie Albert (Green Acres TV) was awarded a Bronze Star for his heroic action as a U.S. Naval officer aiding Marines at the horrific battle on the island of Tarawa in the Pacific Nov.1943.

> > > > > >

Brian Keith served as a Marine rear gunner in several actions against the Japanese on Rabal in the Pacific.

> > > > > >

Lee Marvin was a marine on Saipan when he was wounded.

> > > > > >

John Russell was a Marine on Guadalcanal.

> > > > > >

Robert Ryan was a U.S. Marine who served with the O.S.S. in Yugoslavia.

> > > > > >

Tyrone Power (an established movie star when Pearl Harbor was bombed) joined the Marines, was a pilot flying supplies into, and wounded Marines out of Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

> > > > > >

Audie Murphy, little guy from Texas, most decorated serviceman of WWII.

> > > > > >

I wish I had room to tell you more about Actor Sterling Hayden and an actor by the name of Peter J. Ortiz (Twelve O'clock High, Rio Grande and The Wings of Eagles), but this would turn into a book.

> > > > > >

There is a huge gap between the heroics and patriotism of the actors in 1943 and the cowardly despicable posturing of the Hollywood crowd of today. Most of them have no education with substance, never held a real job, attended some back street acting school, and now they are self proclaimed experts on everything. And the media cannot wait to interview them on world affairs.

Stay Safe Trailer Trash !!

Hey SQ

"Charlton Heston was an Army Air Corps Sergeant in Kodiak"

I did not know that. He went out with some real class today.

Greasy side is being kept down up north. (most of the time anyway)

tnx 4 CQ

I wonder, if we had another major war, would today's entertainers use their status to try to claim an exemption from being drafted into the service?
