Halle Berry says she thinks she's 'ugly'
Knight Ridder ^

Posted on 04/19/2003 9:01:58 PM PDT by Pokey78

Halle Berry solidified her place as one of the world's sexiest women with her role as Bond girl Jinx in "Die Another Day."

But the Oscar-winning actress (Monster's Ball) says she still doesn't see herself as a beautiful star.

"To be totally honest, most of the time I think I'm ugly," she told the German magazine Journal fur die Frau. "I see myself without makeup every morning and that's why I don't have illusions anymore. I certainly don't feel like a big star."

Berry added that being black still hinders her progress in Hollywood.

"For many film studios and directors skin color remains a problem. They don't believe that the audience will accept a black actor in the main role. These narrow-minded people underestimate the public and prevent advancement in the industry."

Berry's next film will be "X-2," the sequel to "X-Men" slated for a May 2 release.

Thanks for the ping on this one. I saw this in the paper yesterday. I'd pay real money to be that "ugly." Her comments about directors and studios not accepting black actors and actresses rings hollow to me. I may be missing something - which is often likely - but if you're going to start counting actors and race, how does she explain the huge popularity of Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, and Morgan Freeman - all of whom work a LOT, and whose movies make a LOT of money? I also happen to generally like the work released by those five actors ... not because of, or in spite of their race, but because they are fine actors.

She wasn't raised black, and she couldn't even pass for black.

She was raised Black and she can pass for Black any day. To think otherwise indicates that you need to get out more often.

<< I pick the one thing in your post that isn't based on pure speculation, prove you to be liar >>

You confuse "speculation" with FACT. And you certainly haven't proven me to be a liar. Anyone who can understand elementary level English can read and see this for themselves. They can alse see that your only response has been to take ad hominem pot shots, because you have no substance to stand on.

She's not ugly, but she don't make my top ten list... but then again I like my women not to have committed hit and run either.

X: Then why didn't you do a better job of refuting any of it?

<< Because you seek to overwhelm me with the length of your posts, >>

LOL! Only one of my posts was long enough to require a little bit of scrolling. The others fit on one screen. If that overwhelms you, my posts are the least of your problems. You need to take a remedial reading course first.

<< and you seek to make my viewpoint appear to be some sinister plot to "smear" someone who is a well-known publicly reprimanded retread and disruptor >>

Well, it certainly was a smear against someone, and you are spreading your smears to different people with your responses.

<< and, because I don't give a rat's ass what you think. >>

Then why do you keep responding?

Then why do you keep responding?

Because the more you talk, the clearer it becomes that you are no "newbie" as your profile suggests.

You want "facts"? Well, here's a FACT:

Since you signed up in February, the majority of your extremely limited number of posts have been on this very thread, attacking me, pinging others in an attempt to cause trouble, and defending "Jael" - someone Jim Robinson identified as a retread, and advised to keep a very low profile and cause no more trouble.

Now, why IS that, Poser?

I'm convinced (and I'm not the only one, as you can see on the thread) you're just here to cause problems...much like your little buddy - if you're two different people, that is.

Auto-ignore: ON

Now you have graduated from insinuation to OUTRIGHT DECEIT.

<< You want "facts"? Well, here's a FACT: Since you signed up in February, the majority of your extremely limited number of posts have been on this very thread, >>

That is not a fact, that is a LIE. Most of my posts have been in the creation-evolution debate. Several others have been exposing RINOS (Republicans In Name Only - IOW, frauds). I have only posted a handful of times in this thread, and only in the past day. You need to do at least a little homework before you spread LIES, so you can't get caught so easily.

<< Now, why IS that, Poser? >>

Why is what? The fact that you have graduated from slanderous insinuation to BLANK LIES and DECEIT and your responses have been almost totally ad hominem slander? You'll have to answer that. But you'll have to answer to an even higher source than me, or the moderator.

Just curious....what is a BLANK lie. Is that a form of cussing that God doesn't object to?

I think a BLANK lie is a lie that doesn't rhyme, like BLANK verse.

<< It appears jael was a scab picker who posted solely for the purpose of starting fights. Her (?) avowed conservative Christian credentials seem hollow and contrived. If I didn't know better I would suspect jael was a DUper troll who was doing everything in her power to make FR look bad. Good riddence. >>

Good think you "know better". But if you do know better, why would you post the slanderous accusations anyway?

Her credentials include being on the PAID staff of Alan Keyes, working for conservative Republicans, and belonging to the Constitution Party. That's pretty conservative, hardly a troll.

Maybe the problem is that too many Freepers AREN'T really conservative and they get their panties in a bundle when a real conservative shows up and puts them to shame.

Judging from her posts, she comes across as a caricature of a conservative. If I had to guess which former Republican candidate for president she is associated with, I would pick either Buchanan or Keyes. Buchanan's antisemitism has doomed him. Keyes is no antisemite and is certainly a bright and fiery speaker. But he is rigid almost beyond comprehension and is thus wholly unelectable.

Successful politics is not about being rigid unless you're an authoritarian like Saddam Hussein and can enforce your political views at the point of a gun. Politics in the United States is a about flexibility and persuasion--even more so in the post-Clinton polarized world in which we live. No candidate for president can hope to win (and actually have a chance to meaningfully influence the course of important matters) unless that candidate shows an ability to be flexible.

As for jael, her comments evidence rigidity and scab-picking--just the sort of behavior you would expect from a DU troll pretending to be conservative and trying to discredit FR.
