"Prouder Than Ever", Maines (Dixie Chick)

(4/4/03, 7 a.m. ET) -- The Dixie Chicks are expressing concern for their personal safety since singer Natalie Maines uttered the now infamous anti-Bush statement, "We're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas," to a London audience.

"We've gotten a lot of hate mail, a lot of threatening mail," Martie Maguire told reporters in Australia. "Emily (Robison) had the front gate of her ranch smashed in. We have to have security when we get back to the States. It puts my well-being in jeopardy."

Maines, however, has reacted more flippantly to the situation, according to reports. The singer said, "The more flack I get for it, the prouder I am." She was also quick to point out that in her hometown of Lubbock, Texas, "only six people showed up," for a public Chicks CD-smashing protest.

Maines's comment has also taken its toll on the Dixie Chicks' album sales, which have dropped a reported 52 percent. Despite the dip in sales, the group remains the top-selling country act, with their album Home firmly entrenched in the Number One spot on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart.

The Dixie Chicks will kick off their "Top Of The World" tour on May 1 in Greenville, South Carolina.

Honestly, I have more respect for her. She's standing up for what she believes in, no matter how misguided. Better this than a fake apology. I mean this with all my heart.

Are you not following this story??? I think not or you wouldn't be so proud. This woman is a DITZ, with obviously no firm beliefs. First she mouthed off of course safely in a different country, then the outcome of her rantings were not positive so she apoligized. And now she is saying she is proud of what she said??? You Hildy, need to reevaluate this whole thing.

It could be sales to retail stores NOT sales to consumers. For all we know these could be preorders. It could also be "publicity" sales the Sony managment convince merchants to buy the record on the idea that its a hot "banned" item.

For all we know they could be giving the cd's at a huge discount or even for free. This seems so rigged.

Oh so now she is proud of it is she? Proves what we knew all along, that her apology was not sincere.

"Bill O'Reilly just read an email from an Aussie who said that the Ditzes were there in concert, in Sydney, and said that they stand by their comments."

What about their apologize's? I thought I heard where they had apologized 2 or 3 times. If, true, we now know the apology was just a liberal lie.

"A variation on the classic 'when in a liberal bookstore, rearrange the books so conservative titles show' stunt may be in order. How fun would it be to re-arrange their cds...say sprinkle them throughout the rap section?"

I remember when growing up our AM DJ told us all to go out and move the Bobby Sherman albums into the children's section. What a hoot. I wouldn't want to foister off the Ditzy Chicks on children, though. That would be child abuse. The rap section works for me.

As to their latest un-apology, sounds like they're taking their cue from Peter Arnett. Just another "sincere" liberal apology. To me, they all sound like "I'm sorry I got caught".

They need to change the name of their tour from "top of the world", TO:"BOTTOM OF THE BARREL", because that's where they belong.

Yeah, but when you have a lot, you always want more. :-}

Well, there is that but I think she is just biding her time in the group just to have something to do. You know the symptoms. Spoiled little rich girl needs something to do to show that she has a meaningful life...........

Not sure how he would be taking to his kid's comments. You got to wonder if some of his music contemporaries are hounding him about his mouthy daughter

Well one could hope.

My information is that the family is prominant, more than just a dad being a well known musician. Who knows, I could be wrong.

But having been born in Texas myself, I am sorry to say that she hails from any part of this great state.

Well, I'm happy that she's proud. Hopefully not too prideful to accept the forthcoming offers to perform at auto and home improvement shows.

After Three Weeks, Johnny Goes Home

From Tennessean entertainment editor Tim Ghianni:

"That most fabulous of country music (or all music for that matter) icons, Johnny Cash, has finally gone home.

Cash, who had been hospitalized for about three weeks for treatment of pneumonia, was released from Baptist Hospital on Tuesday night, said Jennifer Jackson, director of public relations for the hospital.

Because of his sometimes fragile health, the great Mr. Cash was kept in the hospital long enough for it to be judged that he was completely recovered from his bout with pneumonia.

''He's recovered and is probably resting nicely at his home by this point,'' Jackson said.

Cash will be saluted during Monday night's CMT Flameworthy Video Music Awards, by the way."

(Don't bother, we know this guy's a Music Row tool. Johnny's been battling Shye-Drager(sp)Syndrome which makes you highly vulnerable to pneumonia. That the man survived another 3 weeks to go home is a tribute to his toughness.)

The fact that Al Gore came to her rescue, accusing those of us who've been 'bashing' her of Stalinist tactics, indicates they may have already landed a gig singing at the next DemoRat convention.

No, I don't. Her first two "apologies" were non-apologies. And I don't even know if I believe the quote taht she was just joking. I mean it when I say that I would respect her more if she had the courage of her convictions and say, "I meant what I said. If you don't like it, and don't want to buy my albums, that's your perogative."

My guess would be at Sam's Club...too rough of a crowd at auto & home improvement stores!

Nebukadnezar Natalie's newest singing quote; "Would you like to try our Golden Pride chicken chunks, ma'am?"

"Rosanne Cash, who is country music royalty..."

Oh give me ANOTHER break... Rosanne who? She's lucky her eyes pulled off the one video she made years ago, and that jailbird daddy got her in the business... 'nough said.
