The tyrant will soon be gone. With those words, President Bush left no doubt with Saddam Hussein or with the world that the years of a brutal dictatorship in Iraq will soon be over. In an address to the American people, and to the Iraqi people, Bush reiterated the many steps for diplomacy and peace that the United States and her allies have followed in the past 12 years- to no avail. The President told the Iraqis that their liberation is near and warned any Iraqi soldiers to think twice before releasing chemical or biological weapons. Bush also issued warnings to any terrorists that, 'If our enemies dare to strike us, they and all who have aided them, will face fearful consequences.' Earlier in the day, Bush met with congressional leaders and outlined tonights speech, and ultimately prepared them for military conflict. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya! I know I will.

Heh, Heh, we're dating ourselves! My fave was Peter! Saw them in concert in Mobile, in the summer of 1967 (one of THE best years for music!!) We even tracked them down to the motel where they were staying. We were within 15 feet of them, but like typical 14 yr. olds. couldn't get up the nerve to even say hello! Ah, memories!

President Bush in speech to nation Monday night gave Saddam and his sons 48 hours to leave Iraq or face military conflict “launched by us at a time of our choosing”.

It is too late for Saddam to stay in power, Bush declared, urging Iraqi military not to fight for dying regime, not to use WMD or destroy oil wells as war crimes will be punished. US will use every measure in its power to win war.

UN Security Resolutions 678 and 687 authorizing 1991 Gulf War were still in force as well as 1441. He accused “some governments” of working against implementation by threatening veto and Security Council of not living up to its responsibilities.

Citing World War II, Bush warned appeasement could bring unheard of danger to world. That danger must be removed before it is too late.

US president repeatedly linked terror with Iraq, emphasizing terror threat will diminish the moment Saddam is gone.

As Bush spoke, terror threat level in America was raised to orange (high) as volume of threats reaching all intelligence agencies expanded.

Risk heightened of Al Qaeda and Iraqi sleeper agents carrying out large-scale strikes, including biological and chemical attacks, in US and against American overseas interests.

DEBKAfile’s military sources: Before speech, US President spoke with world leaders, including Israeli PM Sharon. Afterwards, he canceled all engagements to focus on military campaign and counter-terror operations. White House sources expect any Iraqi military movement to elicit instant US military response.

Air blitz and strikes by 600 missiles over Baghdad and Tikrit launching war expected Tuesday overnight

Pentagon official to VOA: US forces are poised to start offensive any moment and prepared for Baghdad’s possible retaliation with chemical or biological weapons. Fox TV: Iraqi Special Republican Guards south of Baghdad are armed with chemical shells

Iraq rejects US ultimatum for Saddam Hussein to go into exile or face war.

Turkey and United States close deal permitting US troops to transit Turkish bases for invasion of North Iraq and opening airspace to US and allied warplanes. Turkish troops wil not enter North Iraq, while Kurdish militias will not set foot in Mosul and Kirkuk.



Israel declares partial mobilization of reserves Monday night, especially air force and air defense units. Population is ordered to prepare to seal rooms and await instructions in coming hours. Israeli sources expect war outbreak in matter of hours.

UN Secretary Annan orders all UN personnel to leave Iraq.


British parliament votes on military action against Iraq Tuesday morning. Monday, Commons leader Robin Cook resigned senior cabinet post to protest offensive against Iraq without Security Council second resolution

Palestinian legislative council in crisis Monday after rejecting Arafat’s demand for right to approve Palestinian cabinet

Session Monday in Ramallah dominated by Arafat’s maneuvers to curtail prime minister’s authority after he effected last-minute switch of venue from legislature building to his own bureau. Prime ministerial candidate Abu Mazen is not present.

I offered to go off my hormones for a few days and take care of Saddam (and the bozo boys). Rummy never got back to me. Guess they have all the help they need, huh?

I have practiced many times with the training version of the chem gear. We take it very seriously. I've become quite expert at plugging my canteen of water into the mask tube and sipping away. It's absolutely no fun, but a necessity.
