Two things tell you this is set up to fail. Bush personalized things vis a vis Chiraq, which puts Chiraq in a very bad position to back down (as Mitterand backed down in 1991). Also, Bush & Co. could have mounted a far more impressive show of unity by pro-war nations, projecting a much more credible threat to the UN's survival. But he doesn't want them to blink. And they're not going to blink, by the looks of things. The setup for the next phase in the campaign against Hussein is perfect.

May I ask when are we going to take out Iran.....:-) I hope you didn't mind that I posted what you said the other day on this thread.. No, I realize anything I post is fair game. :-)
It is hoped that Iran can be handled internally. They do harbor terrorists and they have been a breeding ground for extremists. We have rooted out most of the terrorist organizations from Afghanistan, and Iraq shortly. Pakistan is finally getting serious about taking care of their terrorist problem. If we incur terrorist attacks in the US and elsewhere around the world when going after Iraq, chances are good that those will be traced back to Iran. That will give us just cause to take action there if necessary, but again it's hoped that the Iranian people will overthrow the extremist elements in their government. They know the US and West will welcome a moderate Iran and that it will result in many benefits.

No they didn't! They didn't cut it out because I saw it live and on the replay. It was the Spanish reporter who asked a series of questions in succession (as reporters inevitably do) one of them saying something about a "majority" of countries were not in favor of using force "at this time".
Call CNN what you will, but they didn't edit out the question in question.

~~~If the UN fails to step up again, look for this same coalition to take action. ~~~
I agree. And thank God such a coalition has stepped forward under the leadership of President Bush!
No sweat! I watched it closely the second time, and he didn't "interrupt" the reporter like MSNBC said (I saw it live at my in-laws' house), but he did step in to answer the question before Aznar or Blair could. At first I thought the questions were directed only at Aznar, but they were directed at all of them.
Vice President Cheney was the sole guest on Meet The Press this morning. He very articuately, imo, outlined the difference in the U.N. policies and international thinking of the 20th century, that containment works, to the growing necessity of a NEW way of thinking for the 21st century.
He said that because we have no 'borders' within which to contain an aberrant threat, the U.N. and international thinking MUST change in order to be considered relevant.
Since I envision the U.N. NOT changing course, they will cease to be other than a 'humanitarian' support agency, imo.
CNN replay CUT OUT this part! Unbelievable. That was the best part. I noticed that you referred to it above as the part where Bush talked about France. That was a different answer to a different question. The question where Bush ripped into the foreign reporter was early on in the Q&A, maybe about the second question, maybe third. After his rant, he said a meek little "sorry" to Blair and turned it over to him.
Then a little later, toward the very end of the conference, Bush talked about France and about the UN having to regain their legs of responsibility.
OK...saw it on CSPAN...it lasted only
a few seconds...his eyes flashed...he
leaned forward...he crammed 1441 down
the reporter's throat.
Sorry, musta flipped channels briefly
or something, when CNN had it.
My fav part was the end: "Rawanda,
Kosovo...UN didn't do its job!"
(And, "France showed its cards" -
as in "Texas Poker".)
LOL!
To: txrangerette
Yeah, I particularly liked the "eye-flash" when Bush said "u-nan-i-mous-ly", LOL!
It was worth the wait -- it was the third time in the past week that Bush made a statement where you could actually see his anger come almost to the surface.
I wouldn't want to be the guy that brings him sourdough for breakfast when he asked for whole wheat.
To: alnick
I watched CSPAN's replay...have got it
all straight now.
(But someone else originally -not me-
thought it was the France part that
was "missing"...right then I played
along 'cause I wasn't sure exactly
all I had missed.)
Thanks.
