Two things tell you this is set up to fail. Bush personalized things vis a vis Chiraq, which puts Chiraq in a very bad position to back down (as Mitterand backed down in 1991). Also, Bush & Co. could have mounted a far more impressive show of unity by pro-war nations, projecting a much more credible threat to the UN's survival. But he doesn't want them to blink. And they're not going to blink, by the looks of things. The setup for the next phase in the campaign against Hussein is perfect.
