A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

Dog Gone
Freeper since March 26, 1998

After my last foray into the "dark side" (remember BilltheDrill?) I felt like making things a little easier on myself by selecting a nice, liberal attorney for my next Inquisition. Well, dear readers, once again I was deluded into thinking he was one of ours. (Why am I being *punished*?) The sacrifices I make for you, my adoring readers. I certainly hope you appreciate it!

So, here it is, the "dirt" you've all been clamoring for. (Oh, and in case you are interested, the doctor said I'd probably only need to be on the tranquilizers for a short period of time). It is with great pride (and true inner peace) that I bring you:
Dog Gone - The Exclusive
National Inquisition Interview

dansangel: Tell us a little about yourself.

Dog Gone: I was born and raised in California where I always wanted to grow up to be a trial attorney like Perry Mason or Owen Marshall, two popular TV shows when I was a kid. In college I was a radio disc jockey, editor of the school newspaper, and majored in both journalism and history. I did attend law school at the University of Southern California, where, much to my surprise, I discovered that trial attorneys are actually liberal scumbuckets who prey on society. It was a rude awakening.

dansangel: Wha-? Wait a minute....California....attorney....you mean you're *not* liberal?

Dog Gone: I came to my senses, and took a job as an attorney for a major oil company, where I negotiate deals, write contracts, and try to keep them from being sued by the liberal trial attorneys. I was transferred to Texas where I continue to work today as an oil and gas attorney.

dansangel: Do you have a wife that will, hopefully, knock some sense into you?

Dog Gone: I live in the greater Houston area, where I am married to a woman who shares my political beliefs, but has no interest in computers or FR. She frequently asks me to post things to my Freeper friends, and she takes part in Freeper activities. We were very active in the Houston Freeper demonstrations during the Florida election debacle, making signs, demonstrating at key intersections, and showing support for Bush during those tense days. I have one son who will be entering college this fall here in Texas.

dansangel: Well, so much for that idea. What do you use as your source for news?

Dog Gone: I signed up at Free Republic in early 1998 after finding it from a link at the Drudge Report. I don't remember how long I lurked before getting the courage to sign up, but it was only a few weeks. Bill Clinton was really making me mad, and I needed a place to vent!

dansangel: What could a right-wing terrorist possibly have to "vent" about?

Dog Gone: All my relatives, and in-laws still live in California. One of my brothers is a high school teacher there, and he's a communist. Seriously. We have many interesting email debates, and I frequently encourage him to leave the country he finds intolerable. I think it's too bad that he's spreading his philosophy to unsuspecting high school kids. Sigh.

dansangel: THAT place again! Well, that confirms what I suspected....there's no doubt as to which side your political philosophy originates from.

Dog Gone: My political philosophy? If the world were perfect, I'd be a Libertarian, because I believe in self-sufficiency, and minimal government. But the world's not perfect, and we're in a political battle with Democrats domestically, and all kinds of bad guys on the international scene. That means fighting to win, and the only way to win is through the Republican Party. I donate to the Republicans and support their candidates. In my first election, I voted for Jimmy Carter in 1976. In hindsight, that is SO embarrassing. I came to my senses and voted GOP ever since.

dansangel: Hmmpph! More like, "sense-less."

Dog Gone: I've met George W Bush and have spoken to him on the phone several times (although never since the inauguration). He's genuine, caring, and sincere. I am a huge fan of Dubya, and he's earned my trust.

Dog Gone: "I'm *not* the guy on the left!"

dansangel: All you right-wingers are fans of his....the next thing you'll be telling me is that you want to follow in his footsteps....

Dog Gone: I will probably enter politics after my son graduates from college. That means I can't use my real name at Free Republic, because the steenkin' liberals will use everything I post here against me. It's not that I'm not willing to defend what I post here, because I believe it. But I've been wrong on occasion and I just don't want to give them that kind of information.

dansangel: Just what the world needs....another member of the vast right-wing conspiracy in politics.

dansangel: At that point, I had to end the Inquisition. My nerves simply could not take any more heartless right-wing badgering. It was a great psychological sacrifice on my part, but worth it for you, my dear and loyal readers.

Please join me in giving another deserving FReeper a warm welcome to FR's Finest...
Today that Finest is
Dog Gone!

If you have someone you would like to add, please address a post to Billie; Daisyscarlett; Dansangel; Dutchess; Mama_Bear; and we will add their name to this list. As we pray for them, we pray also for all our nation’s leaders, and military personnel, and their families and friends. May God hold them close to His heart.
~~~~~~~~~~   ~~~~~~~~~~
We ask Lord, that You guide the leaders of our great country in their hour of decision. The burden that has been placed on their shoulders is overwhelming. We ask that with Your infinite wisdom You guide them gently to the right decisions.
Please give us the strength, Lord, to get through each difficult and devastating day that faces each of us and our country. Protect and guide our Military that are now being called to duty, strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. "what if it was to gab with us?"
Surely a fate worse than...attending a 3-day conference for liberals...interviewing Tommy Daschele....scuba diving without a scuba....
Okay - guess I'll stay right here...:))
"Hate when work interferes with freeping!"
So true! And that has been happening WAY too much lately! Sometimes I'm away for days at a time and I can hardly bear it!
Also check with your local Community TV cable they might give you a plug and tape and broadcast it for you. Might get you some free ad time. Or exchange it for another service they need. It got suggested to me so I'm passing the suggestion on.
I've left phone calls in several places today. SO far no luck.
FTH any suggestion on organizing a rally you can pass on? Our local GOP leader wimpped out..he's busy with a GOP fund raiser the 22nd, his plate is full it seems as he is also a state coordinator. Didn't have any other names to suggest.
Here is a pic of me and Governor Bush taken in 1998. He appeared at Nortel Networks in Richardson Texas one afternoon. When he walked by me, I asked him for a picture and he didn't even hesitate.
The FRN website has a whole *bunch* of advice on doing one.
I think the idea of the weekend of March 22nd is to have a lot of little rallies nationwide, so there shouldn't be "size" pressure.
Here in DC, we focus on a stage, a sound system, and a good press list, as well as *trying* to do coalition building. This often means college kids or military-affiliated people for this cause (although in DC the college Republicans are not well-organized the the military guys are, well, a little busy!).
My big advice is: find ways for it not to cost $: get a permit for a public space or park with a stage. And realize that each even is a building event: worry on getting the turnout, don't worry too much on spending $.
Ways to have a good rally and a good turnout certainly dovetail on one issue: who is the keynote speaker. In this respect, fame counts and coalition building matters. If there's some conservative talk radio hero in your part who would be willing to headline and publicize the event in exchange for joint credit (and you guys doing the advance work on the sound system and the press release and all the unglamorous stuff), I'd say Go for it!
People who have more specific suggestions on how to do a rally include BobJ (who does the FRN stuff) and I believe Doctor Raoul once compiled a good list of rules and dos-and-don'ts for rallies.
You should also go to your state chapter ping list here at Free republic -- putting something up with the keyword for your state -- asking for suggested keynote speakers.
A good rally starts with a good keynote speaker, a good location, and a good plan to get some people to actually come.
