Rally For America - Milledgeville, GA....3-8-03
dansangel; eyespysomething

Posted on 03/08/2003 3:20:57 PM PST by dansangel

Today was a great day in the town of Milledgeville, GA. A pro-Military and pro-America rally was organized by fellow FReeper eyespysomething. It took place in front of the courthouse in the downtown historical district.

Approximately 200+ pro-America people turned out for the events which started with a color-guard presentation and various guest speakers. A singer was present, giving wonderful renditions of patriotic songs for the crowd.

There were only 2 anti-American demonstrators present and accounted for. They boldly displayed thier "War for Oil" and anti-president Bush placards at the rear of the crowd.

LBGA, .45MAN and myself arrived late having totally misjudged the ride-time to the rally from Atlanta. We left Norcross, GA at 10:00 a.m. and arrived to the rally at noon, a half-hour after it began. Because of this, I do not have details on who all the speakers were that eyespysomething lined up, but am hoping she'll post additional information to the thread.

LBGA spoke about her son who is stationed overseas and was very clear (directed to the anti-America duo) as to how important it is at this time to support our troops deployed overseas. Another couple with two sons in the Marine Corps. spoke, tearfully asking for prayers for all of the military who are deployed to protect our freedoms.

Let us all take the time each day to pray for our President as well as all of the men and women who are making great sacrifices to ensure that we are free to live in this great country of ours. We ask for the safety and protection of all of our troops. We ask our dear Father to grant comfort to the families and also that no one take our wonderful freedoms for granted. We ask our dear Father to give us the wisdom to thank our military members and to elevate them in daily prayer.

We ask this in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen

When I went there to sign up a couple of years ago, they had industrial-size fans blowing everywhere to dry out the carpets after a hard rain. I doubt it's gotten better with age...

My great great grandfather was postmaster there :)

That is so neat! I really wish we had had more time to spend sightseeing because of the richness of the history there. But, we had a long trek back to Norcross....perhaps another time.

You really ROCK, girl! You did it and what a GREAT job you did!

We are so sorry for showing up late. I totally misjudged the distance from Norcross. And let me tell you, .45MAN FLEW!!!! 150 miles in two hours is *not* bad - LOL!!! I was only thinking it was around 60 miles from here....what a *dork!*

If you are interested in meeting after the Rally this Saturday at Jocks and Jills, please FReepmail RobFromGA to let him know the number in your party. He is making reservations for those who can make it.

Hope to see you! {{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}

I'm sure that's just one of the many things that gives SSI its character.

Trust me, if I were to win the Lotto tomorrow, I would buy a home on the ocean there. I absolutely love it and how it has remained relatively unspoiled (compared to other places like Jekyll Island and Hilton Head).

Still, I hope they "plug up the hole" and your service becomes more reliable! LOL!!

You did such a FANTASTIC job of organizing this rally. We just wanted to show up to support you. :-)

Of course I am fearful for my son, but he is doing what he does because he believes in this country, as I do. I am so proud of him. If there are parents who would show up at an anti-war rally, I daresay they are putting their loved ones in more danger because it emboldens Saddam.

Maybe they are all just in it for the free education, but now that they may be called upon to use their training, they and their mommies and daddies think it's too much to ask.

Sheesh, now ask me what I really think about parents of someone who is deployed supporting the peace movement. ;-)

The little boy in the front here is my 7 yr old!

Do you mean the boy in red jeans in my pic at #25? I saw him there. What a cute, and well-behaved young man! You can be proud of him. :-)

I just changed the working from "will" to "may." No one can guarantee that we will be able to live without fear, but all of our troops and our president are trying their best to give us a chance to live that way.

God Bless our troops and our president! :-)

An Open Lette to LBGA-

Next Saturday, I will proudly have my children, all three of them, carry posters with your son's picture on it, who is OVER THERE to protect our Freedom.

Thanks neighbor for raising the kind of son who is willing to serve his country so that we may all remain free.

I'm not a praying sort, but I wish you and your family comfort during his deployment. And I wish for your son strength and protection, as he works with his team to liberate these people and rid the world of a terrible tyrant who refuses to stop accumulating WMD.

I will make sure that my children will understand that the young man on the sign is OVER THERE to protect them and America. And they are OVER THERE because our goals are JUST.

Freegards,
RobFromGa

Thanks for your wishes for my son's safety.

Our goals are JUST, and it's time to let the world know that we aren't going to take these cowardly attacks, and whimpering complaints about our will to protect ourselves any more.

I was at the rally and enjoyed it. I had a few words with our pro-Saddom two. I think I almost had the women crying plus she was accuseing me of making a personal attack on her. The guy was a TRUE veteran. He served in Germany in some motor pool or something in the late sixties. He said he was proud to be a vet but when he told me where he served I busted out laughing at him and he shut up. What a piece of crap both of these two were. They were very uncomfortable by the time the rally was over.

I plan to be at the rally in Atlanta this week end and am in the process of notifying as many North Georgia College graduates as I can in the Atlanta area. Almost all of the ones that graduated when I did in 1966 served in Vietnam. I also hope to be able to participate as a speaker in some future rallies.

Right now I would like to make a suggestion for something we do in rallies nation wide. I think we need to get as many photographs of the rallies as possible AND SEND COPIES TO THE TROOPS. I think this would be a tremendous moral booster.

Bless your heart and thank-you for your service to our country. Also, thank-you for confronting the antis. I was told I should go back and say something to them, but I am very aware of my temper and told the person suggesting that that it was not a good idea.

Your idea of sending the pics to the troops is a great one. I hope to get more at the rally in Atlanta this weekend.

Central Georgians Show Support for U.S. Troops
3/9/2003 11:48:49 PM

More than 150 people gathered outside the Baldwin County Court House to rally behind deployed troops.

People attending the event said it was not a pro-war rally, but a way to show support for the troops deployed and for the way President Bush is handling the crisis with Iraq.

The rally had its rough moments.

Two anti-war demonstrators showed up, leading some of the people supporting the troops to turn around to face them.

One anti-war demonstrator answered he had a right to express his views.

The discussion ended peacefully without any major incidents.

For the organizer of the rally, Jean Peecher, it was a way to show which side has a majority.

She said, "I want President Bush to know the number of people supporting him. I want the troops to know the number of people suppporting them. I think we are the majority not the anti-war protesters."
