People are so impatient with the diplomacy, obviously it isn't working. I think it is incredibly valuable,,we know the UN now better than ever, we know the French, we know the Germans. The new world powers are making new alliances for the first time since the Wall fell. We are watching the end of the cold war and the formation of structures and alliances to be made for the next fifty years. The world is reshuffling as we watch,,that is huge. Very perceptive comment---one which bears repeating.

You are right that Congress can only declare formal war.
Since the War Powers act, the president can start
hostilities without Congress approval. Of course
Congress had to approve the War Powers Act, which is law.

And don't you lady me!
ROTFLMAO. Well put.

Who have they supplied? IF they're supplying OSB, where's the evidence? And why does OSB hate Hussein and speaks out against him?OBL (OSB is a type of wood sheathing material used in the construction trades) isn't the only terrorist in the world. There are terrorist camps in north Iraq, funded by Iraq, that train those that pose a threat to not only the US but most of the western world. As well, there are links showing meetings between OBL himself and Saddam.
Keep in mind that internal Iraqi sources are still being protected. We don't want them killed and we don't want to lose the intelligence.
For that matter, did't we stop a N Korean ship with some kind of cargo, near YEmen?
Well, we stopped an unmarked ship coming from N. Korea, and its cargo was duly noted. Its destination wasn't known for certain, but it is now. That will be dealt with soon.
No, the folks on this board are fixated with the Middle East, and don't care about the N Korean threat, the need for "?regime change" in N Korea, or the welfare of the N Korean people, who are as oppressed as Saddam's subjects. For freepers, it's because the book of Revelation doesn't mention N Korea. The N Korean people can be d-mned, I guess, they don't need "liberation" or "regime change".
We'll deal with NK soon enough, but in a very different manner. Saddam cannot be dealt with without the use of force; NK can be dealt with diplomatically. You simply cannot paint all threats with the same brush. Besides, I haven't heard of any groups of Koreans hijacking planes and flying them into buildings. I can't say the same of male middle eastern males whose faith happens to be Muslem.

Absolutely great material and delivery! Two points I especially liked: 1) he's going to force a vote so France, et al have to go on record; and 2) he's going to honor his oath to protect the citizens of the United States with or without global approval.

Newt did good. O'Reilly wants to know why the world (or why so many people) don't support the Iraq effort, or "why they hate us" and "why didn't Bush answer that one."
That question sure misses the subject at hand.
To: CoolGuyVic
THE REASON why its diffrent he told you , CHINA, JAPAN, RUSSIA ALL HAVE A STAKE in NK. We get involved there we may have WW3.

The Dems can only let Helen Thomas out of her freezer for only a couple of hours per day, or else she starts to turn brown around the edges. I'd sure hate to have the job of scraping the mold off of her every day. I think that's what Begala does with his afternoons.

whew...I tried it on, I just couldn't make it fit! Their actions don't make any sense at all in that context (except perhaps in a "B" grade spy movie).
France and Germany are geniune in their opposition, nothing else makes the least bit of sense from any angle. And I think Bush really does want their acquiescence to this (he knows he won't get their support). And they sense the power that desire on Bush's part gives them.
To: Damocles
ignore and quickly move away...
You sound like Saddam himself - - "DON'T LISTEN TO PEOPLE WHO DISAGREE WITH THE PARTY LINE!" Amazing how so many freepers say we must fight for freedom - - but they don't want free speech and open discussion on this board.

My husband's take on Bush's demeanor tonight--he thinks he was just trying hard to stick to his script and that's why he was sort of slow and choppy. In other words, he thinks we're all reading too much into why he was speaking the way he was.
To: Leto
Correct, last Fall The congress passed a bill Authorizing the President to take action against IRAQ if they don't disarm. Let's not forget that Iraq is also in violation of the terms of cease fire from the first Gulf War. The President does not need another declaration to continue a conflict already declared.
But either way, Bush is easily covered.

2. Would it be improper netiquette to tell you to stfu.

You can bet the Congress isn't going to be declaring war. They'll be lucky to be advised.
