Some Maine Teachers Traumatizing Students of Deployed Soldiers

WABI TV reported Friday that the Maine National Guard Family Assistance Center has received about 30 complaints from children of deployed soldiers concerning Principals, Teachers and Guidance Counselors reportedly demeaning the role of their deployed parent. Some children involved are 7 to 9 years of age.
Here is a letter written to a friend of mine from the Maine Army National Guard:
"Thank you for your interest on this most troubling matter. Our Family Assistance Centers have reported cases from Aroostook County to Southern Maine. We are reluctant to give out specific schools and the individuals involved in the interest of giving the education community a chance to address the problem itself. Also, parents wanted the opportunity to pursue the issue through their local school boards first.
In all, we have over thirty complaints that name schools and individual principals, teachers and guidance counselors. If one considers that these complaints come from just the parents who attended our briefings and only from children who told their parents, we are concerned that the problem may be more widespread than we know.
We are recording the complaints, and I will personally visit these educators to express our concern as a professional organization and ask for their cooperation.
Ultimately, our main concern and first responsibility is the safety of our children during these uncertain times. Maine has a core of dedicated and professional educators, but we will challenge any individual who places our children at risk due to their own political ideologies."

This story is now a big time story. The WSJ website has it as a lead story. Thanks to Eva for this find: BY JAMES TARANTO Tuesday, February 25, 2003 3:18 p.m. EST Great Moments in Public Education
Bloggers Joe Katzman and Trent Telenko pick up on a disturbing report from WABI-TV in Bangor, Maine (video is here), that children of Maine National Guardsmen who've been deployed to the Gulf have found themselves facing schoolyard taunts--not from fellow students but from "antiwar" teachers. Here's a quote from the WABI report:
Alan Grover, WABI-TV: "What the kids are facing is hearing that their mother or father is a bad person for taking part in the confrontation with Iraq; comments that are coming from teachers. That's according to officers with the Guard's Family Assistance Program who've been traveling throughout the state this week. The officers report that such incidents are relatively few in number but that they've occurred in practically every region of the state."
Maj. Andrew Gibson: "Some kids have even reported that . . . teachers have said things to them, specifically, about the . . . unethical nature of their parent going off to fight."
Most of the children involved, WABI reports, are between seven and nine years old.

Have you seen this thread yet? It is about "teachers" in Maine telling their 7-9 year old students that their National Guard parents deployed overseas are "bad for going to war."
bogeybob broke this story here on FR on Sunday. Grampaw Dave has just let us know the story has been picked up by the Wall Street Journal.
This is much more than just a rock in our collective conservative shoe...it is a REAL injury and imho must be properly addressed!
Thought you might be interested!

I hope I'm wrong, but this may be about the last we hear of it, unless Bill O'Reilly manages to dig up some goods before the Libs shred the evidence.
It appears that the phone calls have been made from the seat of political power here in Maine down the chain of command, and all of a sudden there is no problem here; never was one. Whaddaya mean, "Traumatizing Students"? Never heard of it; never happened. Whaddaya you, nuts a-sumtin'?
Those former National Guard Officers who broke the story to Channel 5 are now probably peeling potatoes in the Mess hall of Camp Keyes as a Corporal and Private respectively, and keeping their mouth very shut, while the Family Advocacy group involved... didn't there used to be one here in Maine? I wonder what became of it?
I will even be rather surprised if we ever hear from any of the effected Parents again. Ever hear of the "offer" that just can't be refused? I suspect that a lot of them have been made and quickly, if somewhat reluctantly, accepted by a lot of players yesterday. They probably know all too well what happens to anyone foolish enough to hesitate... or to their Loved ones.
When we see a criminal case that is suddenly dropped by prosecuting Attorneys, Complainants and Plaintiffs suddenly withdraw their cases, and Wittnesses abruptly forget or recant their testimony (or vanish entirely), we can pretty well guess that a very powerful, well-organized entity has an interest in the outcome of the case for some reason, and has probably made a few phone calls and paid a few visits, offering certain "proposals" that are best not turned down.
Anyone see a similarity here?
Gee; I wonder what kind of organized entity has an interest in the outcome of this case, hmmmm?
Anyone want to venture a guess?
But in the end it may be just as well; things were rapidly approaching critical mass here, and perhaps worse outcomes may have been avoided by squelching the whole deal before it got out of hand. No doubt the schools got the clear message to knock this stuff off ASAP, and that they are being watched by people - like us - who will not put up with such treason.

Thanks for the heads up.
I'm not surprised something like this has happened. I have a relative who is a lib school teacher and I noticed since they've been out of power they have developed a mean streak.

These teachers have learned well from the "education" colleges they attended.
It's time they get a true American education, so maybe they can learn to appreciate the sacrifices that were made by "evil" people serving their country.
To: Uncle Jaque
You paint a very sad picture, Uncle Jacque! We can only pray that the good Lord will intercede and reveal and expose the Truth and the Lie in this entire situation according to His will!
I still think that we should keep trying to get Hannity and O'Reilly and other large conservative forums to look into it. They should at least read the WSJ story on air and get the word out about it.
Please, freepers and lurkers, email Hannity at hannity.com and let him know you want this thing followed!

Forget all the discussion, let's just do the good old fashioned amercian thing and sue their sorry asses. If any of the student/victims in Maine needs the name of a good lawyer who can take these so called "teachers"/sadists for every penny they own, let me know. It's payback time.
