Capital Building. Col Joe Repya distributes 5,000 Signs!

Colonel Repya

Here's why it all started:

The Proliferation of the brown "SAY NO TO WAR" signs in the Minneapolis/St Paul metro along with the protests every week got us a little bothered. You see—I have a simple policy: I don't bother you if you don't bother me—In short: the golden rule. But, when I and Colonel Repya (the founder of the Liberate Iraq sign campaign) saw these brown signs pop up all over our city and heard the Sarandons, the Asners, the Penns, the Langs, the Mandellas, The Carters, and the rest of the Hate-America crowd, for about 4 months, we said enough is enough!

Totally independent of each other, and at about the same point,we both said: "Look, dissension is one thing, but I am tired of these rallies of mixed interest factions disguising their anti-Bush/America angst as "peace" advocacy, I have to do something". It worked out well. He spread a possitive message with yard signs, and I, along with my friend spread a possitive message with T-shirts.

The bottom line is: the leftists created me. I am a regularguy who has plenty of things to do other than go to rallies and march against America, instead of against dictatatorial regimes that rape, beat, poision and torture as a daily matter of course. Frankly,we probably would no thave focused the energy to produce these shirts if the level of America hatred at home and abroad did not reach such a fever pitch. I have and always will respect our soldiers, but the unrelenting protestors put us over the top.

And if we can thank the leftists for anything it is that their constant badgering created our strong wave of support. Sadly, many of these protestors don't know their rallies have been funded by ANSWER (A World Communist front group). But even more sadly, many do—because as long as it means opposing George W. Bush...well, then anything else is just fine.

And here we are today. We have found great support from the community of Minnesota people who love America and the freedoms it fosters and nourishes. 5,000 yard signs were given out today. People are getting shirts, buttons, stickers, making their own banners, hoisting flags, and typing passionately at their keyboards.

God Bless America.

Support America, the principles of freedom and our troops.

"Liberate Iraq" movement keeps growing
Updated: 02-23-2003 02:04:37 AM

ST. PAUL, MN -- Saturday near the state capitol, the latest signs of the times were being handed out--about two thousand of them, acording to the organizer.

Deb and Joe Repya, from Eagan, are leading an effort in support of US military action in Iraq.  Joe Repya said, "It's just unbelievable the response we've gotten from Minnesotans."

Joe is a retired army reserve colonel and Gulf War veteran.  He said, "Believe me. If there's a nation that needs to be liberated from a dictator that is just as vicious as anything Adolf Hitler was, it's Iraq. Believe me."

The 'Liberate Iraq' lawn signs are in direct response to lawn signs that read 'Say NO to war with Iraq', and the anti-war protests.  Peace rallies like the ones last Saturday, that attracted thousands in Minneapolis and millions around the world, reminded Vietnam veteran Gary Christian of the anti-war protests back in the 1960s.

Christian said, "Our troops need the support. You know, I'm tired of seeing all the other propaganda."

Korean war veteran Kale Danberg tried talking to some of those protesters last week.  Danberg said, "And I said, 'Do you know what this button is?' And they said 'No'. And I said, 'That means that I fought for your right to be stupid.'"

Danberg and others here say they're part of the silent majority, who are starting to speak out.

Teri Hewitt, from Richfield, said, "I think it's important that the silent majority be heard.  Our president and troops know that we support them, as well as liberating people in Iraq. There's some bad things going on that Saddam is doing in Iraq."

Bad things that many at today's event say could pose a threat to Americans.  They want to topple Saddam before he unleashes weapons of mass destruction.

Sandy Russell, from Apple Valley, said, "I would rather not go to war. I just believe that if that's the only way that our country can be safe."

The Repyas and their volunteers say next Saturday, they'll be back on Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard, in front of the state capitol, passing out more "Liberate Iraq" signs.

Excellent thread. How about a "KEEP IRAQ ENSLAVED" sign, which could be distributed to the Marxists?

These signs are excellent!
I am going to call and order one for my yard.

I am relatively new to this site, so forgive me if I am not following proper protocal here.

F.Y.I. You may already know this, but you have one of the largest celebrity backers of the military and Pres. Bush comming to Mineapolis next Saturday 3/01/02.

With all the other freedom rallies happening that day, wouldn't be cool to do another one in Mieapolis, and try to get toby to sing at it.

Travis Tritt is doing one down in Asheville N.C. that day already.

Well if this is not possible, at least get a thousand or so of them signs over to the concert location. Toby's "Big Dawg Worrior" fans will buy them all up I am sure.

New anti-anti-war signs sprout in Southwest

By Caitlin Pine

Cedar Isles Dean resident Joe Corneia had already been thinking about producing his own alternative to the "Say No To War with Iraq" signs dotting his neighborhood when he heard that someone had already done it -- Joe Repya, an Eagan Republican activist and retired lieutenant colonel.

"So, I called him up and said 'I'll take as many as you've got,' " Corneia said. "We had folks come pick them up. I offered to deliver them to my friends and family and put it up in their yard."

The white red and blue signs read "Liberate Iraq, Support Our Troops, Call Your Congressperson!"

Corneia estimates that he's put up about 50 signs in the metro area, and a dozen or so in Southwest Minneapolis.

"There's a lot of people who aren't politically inclined, and when those folks see the 'Say No to Iraq' signs in the neighborhood, with no opposition.... I think we need an alternative message, we need to support our men and women in uniform who are sacrificing for our liberty," said Corneia.

Corneia divides anti-war people into two camps;
people who oppose war under any circumstances and those guided by
partisanship.

"The second group is those people who hate our current president and will do anything to oppose him. We need to support our president in his message and to free the people of Iraq," said Corneia.

Corneia says his effort to distribute signs is his first foray into political activism.

"This is all new to me. [The sign] tapped into kind of a wellspring of untapped feelings and desires," said Corneia.

One East Harriet resident, Gretta Morrison, bubbled up from the spring. She saw one of the signs Corneia had distributed, and called him up.

"I happened to see a sign at Emerson and 46th . I liked it because I do support our country and our president," said Morrison.

Morrison lives across the street from Barton Open School, 4234 Colfax Ave. S., and hopes her sign will show some political diversity in the neighborhood.

"The family next door -- they are very nice -- has an anti-war sign, and there's another one three doors down. When I had a Coleman sign up, eggs were thrown at that," Morrison said. "Diversity of opinion isn't allowed in Southwest Minneapolis; I'm surrounded by anti-capitalists."

Morrison is happy to post a sign that supports military personnel, despite any unpopularity.

"You can't go into an intelligent debate with a sign, but it's well done and essentially what I believe. My husband is a Vietnam vet and he knows what it was like to be involved and treated terrible," said Morrison.

Frederick Goetz -- who has lived next door to Morrison for 11 years and posted the "Say No" sign -- agrees that his neighbor is alone in her political opinions.

"I noticed it shortly enough when I heard the Rush Limbaugh radio program playing in her house. Now we let our signs do the talking, and mostly talk together about the weather," said Goetz.

When asked if he thought it was good to have a next-door neighbor with differing political opinions, Goetz said, "I wouldn't say it's an advantage, but it does make for lively discussions."

(Editor's note: Joe Repya is the father of Southwest Journal reporter Robyn Repya, who is not involved in the sign issue.)
