Missouri Cherokee Tribes proclaim Jewish Heritage
by Staff
February 7, 2003
The Northern Cherokee Nation of the Old Louisiana Territory has recently shocked the world by claiming their ancient Oral legends tell of a Cherokee migration made to America from the area known as Masada.
This startling evidence is being offered to the public by Beverly Baker Northup whom is the spokesperson for their organization. The evidence offered in support of this connection to Cherokees escaping the mountain fortress of Masada is based in part of what Northup claims is stories passed down from elders and the similarity between ancient words.
Beverly Baker Northup believes there is a connection between these two peoples based on evidence of Jews of the region around Masada during Roman times wearing braided hair and the similarities that the spokesperson attributes to Hebrew language.
In explaining this connection Beverly Baker Northup is quoted as saying:
"The story has been kept alive among our Cherokee people that the Sicarii who escaped from Masada, are some of our ancestors who managed to cross the water to this land, and later became known as Cherokees. (Please note the phonetic resemblance of Si'cari'i and, Cherokee or Tsa'ra-gi'.)"
Northup claims that the famous scholar Josephus wrote that there were escapees from Masada in which the spokesperson for the Northern Cherokee states that this is evidence that gives credence to this connection between the Cherokee Indians and the Jews.
In addition to other startling claims, there is also the belief by the Northern Cherokee that a rock that was uncovered in Tennessee in 1889 that is named the Bat Creek Stone, proves a transatlantic connection to Jews.
Northup believes that the scratched writings on the rock indicate that the stone is evidence of a first century Atlantic Crossing to America by these escaped Jews that later became known as the Northern Cherokee Indians.
The Northern Cherokee attempted to gain full legislative recognition in the State of Missouri in 1985 that was eventually vetoed by Governor John Ashcroft. Governor Ashcroft made the following statement concerning his decision to veto the recognition of the Northern Cherokee:
"The Federal Government has traditionally exercised authority with respect to Indian Affairs. I am not persuaded that the state has such a substantial interest in this area that it should become involved in the recognition of Indian tribes."
Sources among some federally recognized Indian Tribes have stated that Mr. Ashcroft's comments were 100% correct and should be referred to from time to time.

So you think it is "sad and sick" that man's purpose is to have joy?
You HAVE to be a Calvinist.

Read the "The Bat Creek Stone: Judeans in Tennessee?
This is of no help to examine the stone. The whole purpose of this was to declare Cyrus Thomas a nut.
Why was the stone not checked?
Is this stone native to TN?

The interesting thing about New World archeology is that I firmly believe and accept that there were probably many contacts in the past two or three millenia from China, Polynesia, Scandinavia, Phoenecia, etc.....
Having said that though, I can accept those contacts from Old to New World WITHOUT having to tie it to LDS/Mormonism, since I have seen NO EVIDENCE for the LDS theories.

No, I think it is sad and sick to rejoice in: sin, rebellion, death, the Curse, and the serpent's lies.
I don't know if I'm a Calvinist or not. I was raised RCC, then went to a Dallas Theological affiliated Bible church for several years, then moved and went to an E Free church, now I'm in a C&MA church.
As far as TULIP goes, I believe in TU_IP.
T stands for "total depravity", which is against LDS doctrine, unless you ask the current president (I forget his name), who would reply by saying: "I don't know that we teach that."

I think it's "sad and sick" to believe that we are all doomed because Adam transgressed. I think it's "sad and sick" to believe that a little infant who dies without baptism is damned to hell for eternity.
I think it's "sad and sick" to believe that God made us to be hated and despised.

You know, whole theories (LDS and non-LDS) have swarmed around this "Bat Creek Stone". Maybe it wasn't brought here by a contemporary of the stone, but was in someone's family for a long time. For instance, I collect coins -- I have coins that go back to Roman and Greek times. Now, if I left my home undisturbed and someone dug it up in a couple of hundred years, would those coins fuel the notion that Greeks and Romans once inhabited the land?
One stone does not a theory make.....

"I think it's "sad and sick" to believe that we are all doomed because Adam transgressed."
We inherit a sin nature from Adam and then all of us sin, making us guilty - deserving of damnation.
"I think it's "sad and sick" to believe that a little infant who dies without baptism is damned to hell for eternity."
That is NOT taught in the Scripture. I don't believe it - read how King David reacted upon hearing about the death of his son.
"I think it's "sad and sick" to believe that God made us to be hated and despised."
We sinned against Him, and deserve His punishment. However, God's grace is a FREE GIFT to us, so I know I am saved not because of anything good I have done, but because of what Jesus did on the cross. The LDS denies the free gift of salvation - do you "hate" and "despise" God's free gift of salvation?
Your stereotype of what I believe is wrong.

I read oh pompous one, "The potential significance of the Bat Creek stone rest primarily on the decipherment".....
So the stone itself was not analyzed, deemed not relevant. Why?
Alot of time spent here but didn't bother to check the rock.
If the stone is a fake, why wasn't it thrown back in the mound and why is it hidden.
I ask is the stone native to TN, you obviously don't know.
These people and their little study doesn't mean anything if they didn't bother to check out the stone.

The 'Bearded Ones,' eh? I think they accompanied the Olmecs, as the Olmecs lacked facial hair. Strangers from across the sea?

Joseph was on a roll.
He had a following of people who finally believed his stories.
Alas, he had to keep coming up with yet additional SPECIAL THINGS to emphasize how HEAVENLY SPECIAL THEY WERE compared to all the other 'idiots' out in the OTHER world.
I see it as extensive playing of the INGROUP/OUTGROUP game.
It's a little difficult to get more BASICally SPECIAL and DIFFERENT than UNDERWEAR! Especially after the satanic tinged temple rituals involving it etc.
I've always wondered, though, what do they do when it needs cleaned or wears out? How do you get out of the old and put on the new without being UNCOVERED??? in such SPECIAL PLACES???

Like you Mormons, Scripture to the Catholics is like sunlight to Dracula. Au contraire. "Mormons" are typically very adept scriptorians. In fact, we use the ENTIRE Bible, not just those parts accepted by "mainstream" Christianity.

My understanding is much of the research has been linguistic.
They worship Almighty God with a Cherokee name very close to YAWEH.
Seems to me, I got into it on a website. Would do a Google search but probably not until next week sometime.
I'd still like to see the DNA analysis.
