What is your favorite Movie? (Vanity)
now | ezo

Posted on 02/20/2003 4:00:09 PM PST by ezo4

I’m sitting here after work and pulled out the “Last of the Mohicans” and I’m wondering what my fellow freepers like for there favorite movies. I would like more for my collection of dvd’s. Current and older movies? Doesn’t matter what it is.

Just a little break from the daily news and politics.

I have quite a few that I like and I’m looking for more. Hit me back

Wow! You're the only person besides my wife I've ever heard talk about The Big Night!

For the uninitiated: Stanley Tucci and talented (but unfortunately liberal) Tony Shalhoub shine in this pictire, one of the few truly great "foodie" movies. If you want a well-crafted flick about cooking, family, the immigrant experience, and love -- but don't want all the syrup -- The Big Night is the film to get. Warning to those who haven't seen it: do not watch while hungry!

And The World According to Garp? In many ways, Garp is the definitive Preppie movie (and, as a Preppie myself, that counts), and remains the only Robin Williams flick I can stand. For those who haven't seen it, Garp is based on the 1982 novel by talented (but unfortunately pro-abortion) John Irving, and is sensitively performed and beautifully filmed, with an outré sense of humor that was controversial in its time. It's a film that gives real meaning to the term "bittersweet."

The Thomas Crowne Affair defined 40-ish babeness and male sophistication, all in one fell swoop.

Yeah, Big Night didn't get much pub when it came out, and faded away quickly.

Some other movies come to mind:

While not the best, 'Say Anything' is a cute 80's flick.

Not that it belongs on this list, but perhaps the most shocking movie surprise ever is in 'Angels and Insects'. Horrible. The Crying Game was nothing compared to that.

And although I hate to admit it(it is a somewhat vulgar movie), 'Basic Instincts' is excellent, had all the ingredients. As close to Hitchcock as anyone has gotten.

I was told by a Greco-American friend of mine that the only problem he had with My Big Fat Greek Wedding was that it was billed as a comedy, and not the documentary it was :o)

Save The Tiger

Far and away, Jack Lemmon's best performance.

"When I was a kid and they played the national anthem...I would stand up and salute...all by myself in my room...now...they're making jock straps out of the flag."

Maybe the only bitter sweet tribute to the besieged middle class in movie history.
