UPDATE ON YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS!! GOOD NEWS!!
I spoke with Rosie just a little while ago. She went to the doctor and got the staples out. They wont officially know the extent of the success of the surgery for another 6 weeks to 3 months, but she tells me that the intense pain which she has been under for the last few years has been mitigated. In fact, she stated, "Yesterday I think I turned a corner! It was like I just woke up. I have been able to notice things that I previously havent had the energy to notice." We talked about how pain does that...it makes a person more introspective and 'inward.' When a person is in pain, it is just so hard to place one's attention on outward things. So this does seem like a big notch of progress for her.
Her instructions are to STAY DOWN!! In other words, NO COMPUTER for a while. She can only sit for 20 minutes and it must be timed. So it may be a little while before we get to see her. The good news is that she is overcoming her previous temptations to push it. She is focusing on following her instructions so that she will heal properly.
Those instructions also include physical therapy 3 times per week. No driving. She will be going back for another check up appointment at the end of March.
She wanted me to report to you the opening of a door in her life. Until now, she has been pretty much in a closed down state, is how she described it, because of the fact that her legs have been so weak. She has had to make some innovations over the last several years to do the sewing and crafts that she enjoys so much. The door opening is that a local shop has offered her space and time to present her crafts. They have even asked her if she would teach. They are especially interested in the innovations she has come up with because there are other folks out there who have similar problems with their legs. She is excited because the shop is basically open to her when she is healed enough for the doctor's go ahead to resume this kind of activity. She wanted me to report this because, "I want people out there to KNOW that the Lord DOES open doors...even after a LONG time!"
She wanted me again to convey to all of you, her caring friends, that she so much appreciates the prayers and good thoughts with which you have showered her.
I have a matter that I would like to bring before you as well, if I may. My sister, who is a great and caring English teacher will be having some eye surgery at the end of this month. She is very politically incorrect! She teaches American Lit to the junior class. The first day of class she announces that she WILL be making references to the Bible because it IS the foundation of much of Western and American literature in particular. If there is objection to this, the objecting student may choose to move to another class, but after the first week, no moving around. They never leave.
I sometimes think that Rosie and she are kindred spirits, because like Rose, if it is different, it will happen to her. She will be having cataract surgery at the end of March. This is not your usual garden variety cataract surgery. As I understand it, the defect is not on the surface of the eye like you would normally see, but UNDER the lens involved. So it will be delicate, with more risk involved.
She has learned about the prayer warriors who gather here and has requested your help. She is quite concerned about the surgery because she doesnt want to lose her ability "to grade those term papers for the next several years!"
I plan to post an update on Rose's condition around that time and I will post a link here to the thread which I plan to start then for my sister. Thank you ahead of time for any prayers and good thoughts you may offer to the Lord on her behalf.
OUR FATHER,
We are gathered here together to thank you for answering so abundantly our many prayers on behalf of our Yellow Rose of Texas. We are grateful that her wound is healed cleanly and sufficiently for the staples to be removed. We are grateful that at least some of the pain from previous months has been mitigated. We do pray that the effects of the surgery will restore her to 100% functioning according to your will and plan for her. We are grateful that she is in the hands of good physical therapists and doctors and health care professionals. We continue to ask that you will guide these servants in her case and all the cases they are working on.
We thank you for guiding Rose to be diligent in following her healing instructions, for her healing affects more folks than just herself! We do ask that her healing be swift and that she can be restored to us soon. Bless her and all of her family. Father we also ask that you will protect and seal the open door of opportunity which you have provided to her in that local shop.
Father, while we are gathered in our prayer circle, we do ask that my sister will begin to be surrounded in your protection and care in these days preceding her cataract surgery. We are asking that all of her doctors and nurses and health care professionals will be overshadowed when the time comes and that the surgery will be 100% successful.
Father, while we havent heard anything recently about our sneakypete, we do remember him and ask that you will grant him your blessings. Father, we ask that you will bless all of our circle of Freepers who are needful of your help and blessing. Bless our President and our leaders. Bless our Troops. And God, please bless America.
Father, we do continue to ask that our prayers for these, your servants, will be multiplied like the loaves and fishes for the blessing of all your children who are in similar need. And finally, we do ask that it will all be done only according to thy holy will.
Amen

So it will be delicate, with more risk involved. TEXOKIE, my mother had the same type of eye surgery a little bit back. She came through it just fine. The doctors told her the same thing but also informed her that it was still a standard procedure for the doctors doing the procedure.
Ping me when the thread starts for your sister.
Great news about Rosie. I'll still keep her in my prayers.

Thank you for filling us in on Rose's progress, and all the good news.
Praying for your sister's cataract surgery!
"I want people out there to KNOW that the Lord DOES open doors...even after a LONG time!"
Amen and amen ... I've often found that, about the time we give up on hoping things will change, and have adapted to the rigors of a severe, long-lasting trial, God moves. Looking back, and in light of what unfolds when we turn that corner, we see how marvelously God has been changing ... us ... while He would not change our circumstances, and developing qualities and opportunities in secret that can only be manifested after His times are fulfilled.
His ways are not my ways. But then, His ways bring eternal life. Mine don't!

Thanks for the good news on Rose.
TEXOKIE, I have a prayer request for my niece Jane. She is on a ship in the Persian Gulf, poised for combat. She has a very crucial and very secret job to do there. Please pray that she and her shipmates will be safe, that the Lord will cover them with his Precious Blood and bring them home safely....and any other fine prayer words that you have to add. Thanks!

"Her instructions are to STAY DOWN!! In other words, NO COMPUTER for a while."So glad to hear the good news and thanks for the update.
That bit about the computer ----- I have a desktop and a laptop. I told my husband that I also want a computer on the wall beside my bed -- the same height as my pillow and the keyboard at an angle so that I just have to roll over, or reach out, to get on line. This sounds just like what Rose needs!! Now, if we could only find someone to custom make this!!!! LOLOL!
Prayers will continue.

Roses for Yellow Rose!
So glad that she is doing better, thankful prayers & prayers for the future winging aloft.
May I make a small suggestion? When my mom was flat on her back literally for months with a serious back injury, we rigged her up a device to hold a book so that she could read. She also had a pair of glasses with right-angle prisms (like a periscope) so that she could read while lying down. My dad used the wheels and tubular metal frame from one of those hospital tables that extend over the bed, and bolted a cookbook holder to it for mom's books. I don't see any reason that you couldn't bolt a computer monitor to such a frame and tilt it over the bed so that FReeping could continue unabated . . . :-D

Just read your 3/08 update on Yellow Rose and also about your sister's upcoming cataract surgery. Thank you for giving us this update and opportunity to pray for your sister.
Hopefully both will have awesome recoveries!!
When I see the word "cataracts", my eyes and ears perk up, because eventually I will probably need some kind of treatment, too. Will she have one eye done first and then the other one later? That's what usually happens. Amazingly, she can still teach and read!!!
Thanks again, TEXOKIE!
