There have been many duplicate threads lately. A search is easy to do, but is not 100% foolproof, nonetheless, it is very effective. The Free Republic search feature only looks at words in the title (words from within the article will not work). That is why it is imperative to use the original title. To avoid having duplicate posts, prior to posting an article, search a keyword from the title only. The main search page can be found here:
The best method to search is to pick a key word or two from the title. If the article you are posting is, "Powell Ties 'bin Laden' Message to Iraq", start with 'Powell' for the key word. If it is a hot topic, you might want to use two keywords, in this case, try Powell and laden. For an effective search, select 'match all words' and select 'order by post time'.
Search using 'powell' only - ninth article in list at the time of this posting.
Search using 'powell laden' - Third article in the list at the time of this posting.
Three words or more can also be used. Be aware, three letter words will NOT search. You must use four or more letters per word. So searching for FBI, CIA, ABC, FOX will result in no matches.
While I have your attention. Please, not every story is breaking news. If there is a hot current event, check breaking news. Most likely, it's there already. If you see a breaking news story on drudge, it's probably posted in breaking news already, please check first.
We don't care about the latest hollywood scandals, the latest Bill or Hillary antics or what Rosie is going to have for breakfast tomorrow, are they really breaking news? Keep them out of breaking news. If Bill would be arrested for crimes against the US, that would be breaking news. Keep breaking news for those really breaking news stories. That would be something that the entire country needs to know. Sorry, your dog catcher elections don't effect the nation.
You all have been doing a great job, but with all the news lately, a reminder helps. Thanks for listening.
You're friendly neighborhood Zot master. And for those that care.......

KEYWORDS: ADMIN LECTURE SERIES; ADMIN MODERATOR; DONT ABUSE KEYWORDS; KITTENS; OVERLORD; SEARCH; THREAD NAZI;
I have a question. Does keyword only work if you pick a keyword from the title? Or are you able to bring up the thread by using one of the keywords that was put in the keyword section when you create the thread? Example above.
And how long does it take to be able to find an article with a keyword or the title? I have created a thread and later that day tried to bring it up with a keyword or the complete title and it doesn't come up.
Any idea what happened? Was a change in the FR sofware made to make FR unreachable by web spiders? (Jim_Rob disavows any knowledge. I have asked him several times.)
(I placed them on a separate website because I can't seem to add a javascript: link here)
If any of these work for you, bookmark them, or drag the link up to your browser's toolbar.
Don't you mean What she's NOT having for breakfast tomorrow? The list would be shorter.
A good idea. But then, so is the search function. A system is only as good as it is followed.
Check out IP's #69, the post right after yours.
IT WORKS!!!
Thanks, Indy Pendance!
Folks, if you don't want to bother checking titles before you post, using the proper title, posting the whole article unless it's with an objecting source, or formating the articles correctly, please tip off a friend and ask them to post for you.
Thanks.
(I placed them on a separate website because I don't think it is possible to add a javascript link here)
See if you like them...
* If any of these work for you, bookmark them, or drag the link up to your browser's toolbar.
*Once bookmarked, they SAVE TIME by not having to open a SEARCH PAGE FIRST.
* A prompt will immediately ask what you want to search for,
* A 2ND WINDOW will open with the search 'hits' (not disturbing your primary window).
* These make it REALLY EASY to check if someone beat you to the draw. You can do this JUST BEFORE YOUR FINAL COMMIT OF A NEW POSTING.
Nice oldie, Seems the only way to contact a mod. Now that I have two computers that seemingly do not “speak” to each other I am logged in to one and not on another.
Therefore I’ve lost my old log in password because I’ve been logged in since I first found this site( and first got a computer) in 2005. Now, I’m so inundated with paswords for all the sites i cannot remember how to log in to freerepublic. I’ve asked politely twice for my password in the last week, last night arounf 2100 was the last time. No response becuse I bet you think I’m already logged in. Not so on my large Cray monster HPxm8400”Thee beast...please admin mod, send me my password....my memory is failing me.
Thanks,
Karliner, the greatgrandchild of the pogrom in karlinville Europe
