I was watching something on the History Channel the other night that was talking about the 1993 bombing of the WTC. The report stated that there was a chemical agent inside the van that blew up (Sarin I believe). The reason that it didn't cause any deaths was because the heat of the explosion burned it up.

You have to start the antidote treatment immediately. Cyanide poisons cytochrome C. That stops the eletron transport chain necessary to metabolize glucose all the way down to 32 molecules of ATP. The sodium thiosulfate will scrub the unreacted cyanide from your blood. I'm not certain whether the "antidote" can actually undo any enzymes already poisoned.

The short answer is that you die in 3 to 10 minutes. The number of antidote kits and qualified personnel to administer them is miniscule compared to the number of people who might need them.

If you go back and listen to his taped admittance of why he turned down bin Laden when Yemen offered him up three times was that there wasn't enough legal evidence to bring him to trial in a U.S. court.
