Dear friend,

During their time in the Senate Majority Democrats blocked and stalled many of President Bush's judicial nominees. They refused to even allow fair and timely hearings. This unfair delay and obstruction against qualified judges has left us with a dangerous level of judicial vacancies.

So it should come as no surprise to us that the Democrats are threatening to filibuster Miguel Estrada's nomination. It's been over twenty months since the President first nominated him and now the Democrat's threatened filibuster would only further delay final action - and it also threatens to grind the United States Senate to a stand still.



Miguel Estrada is extremely qualified to sit on the bench. Having argued 15 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, he certainly has the credentials. He's even received the Democrats "gold standard" for judges - a unanimous "well qualified" rating from the American Bar Association.

Estrada has tremendous support among Hispanic leaders and throughout the Hispanic community. He would become the first Hispanic judge to sit on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

We both know that Americans made it clear in last year's elections that they want progress - not gridlock. They want leaders that will work together to move the country forward - not ambitious politicians who care only about pandering to their presidential "voter base."
By filibustering Miguel Estrada's nomination, not only would Senate Democrats delay work on the important issues President Bush spelled out in his State of the Union address, but they would also show that they intend to stand in the way of President Bush's outstanding judicial nominees who adhere to proper judicial philosophy.



Apparently last year's historic election results were not enough. We need to send the Senate Democrats another clear message. By signing our online petition you'll let Senate Democrats know that their planned tactics are completely unacceptable to the American people. We'll also let them know that you stand behind President Bush and his judicial nominees.
