A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

SOME OF FR'S FINEST PROFILE PAGES #8
Many Freepers have taken advantage of the opportunity to create a Profile Page. The results of these creations are often illuminating, humorous, inspirational, artistic or biographic, just to mention a few descriptive words.
Below are some randomly selected FR's Finest Profile Pages. There are, of course, many other FR's Finest Profile Pages worthy of featuring, and we will be featuring them in future editions of Some of FR's Finest Profile Pages. Several have already been featured (see links below). If you have a Profile Page you would like to share, or if you come across a Profile Page that you want to bring to our attention, you know the drill - freepmail Billie, Mama_Bear, Dansangel, dutchess or myself.
In the meantime, please take a look at Some of FR's Finest Profile Pages #8.
phelix is another talented Freeper with a beautiful Webpage which is linked on her Homepage - "simply a collection of flowers from my yard, my cats, my artwork and some poems and stories that are special to me. It means a lot to me to be able to share them here as part of my life...my blink within a dream." Do check out the lovely flowers. Spring is coming!
Mr. Mulliner, whose screen name was formerly Singapore Yank, has provided a recommended reading list of Christian Classics. In fact, he has nifty "bookshelf" with some of these classics. They are all in the public domain so can be freely downloaded. Just click on a title and start reading or print it out.
Mr Fowl's Homepage is devoted to the sport of water fowl hunting on the Delaware Bay. Everything from tide charts, to satellites, to navigational photos can be found here. And if you are not into water fowl hunting, have a look anyway. There is one particular link I enjoyed-one to the lighthouses of Delaware Bay. Also included are some good photos of his beautiful hunting dog, Bob.
Centurion2000 claims that his Homepage is under construction but believe me, it is completed enough to be featured here. Once you read this page, you will come away knowing plenty about this younger FReeper. He shares much of himself. He is picturered here at the Hawkwood Mideval Fanstasy Festival playing a character named Pox. Did I mention that he is interested in science fiction gaming?
Siobhan's Homepage features beuatiful religious art, mostly of Madonna and Child, with a poignant lead-in message from Mother Teresa on abortion, published in the Wall Street Journal in 1994. This message starts out "America needs no words from me to see how your decision in Roe v. Wade has deformed a great nation. The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and...."
Arkinsaw's Homepage provides a link to "The Cult of Scalia" - a wonderful site for all fans of Justice Antonin Scalia. Some of the magnificent opinions he has written are available on this site. Also links to two fine organizations are provided - Sons of Confederate Veterans and Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

Thanks, Mixer!
1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me an FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

Libertina, I'll make you a deal which sounds like the sorta thing people promise but never get around to but in my case I actually will! I'm going to clean up my upload space and links and put all 3 photos of you and Horowitz that I have up there and then Freepmail you the URLs for the 3 so you can download them or whatever. I'm just going to figure out how to do all this this weekend. (I kinda have to get better at manipulating photos if I'm to be any kinda help to our darling Billie here.)
You're right about Trulock -- he's very very nice to Freepers. His daughter came to the booksigning: she looked really bring and was a nice young girl. I hope what's happened to him doesn't hurt him too bad -- financially. In that connection, I say to the peanut gallery:
Have you read the book? Notra Trulock's KINDRED SPIRITS is a *great* nonfiction look at the Wen Ho Lee spy scandal at Los Alamos. LOL -- or was the scandal at the FBI?
To: Pippin
Those tags keep me in trouble Pip. I always forget to change them or delete them and they end up being totally inappropriate.

For real???? Never heard of them...but probably would love it!!!! Who does them????
I was never into hot stuff...but when I quit smoking...gosh...13 years ago now...I had cravings for jalapeno peppers....almost every night I would melt cheese on nachos...take a jar of jalapenos with some sour cream and salsa.... Think it was a substitute indorphine release....(that was before the drugs they now give lol!)

Nan, some day when you come to DC to visit me on a weekend, I'll show you how to make a simple patchwork design, and in that one day, before we have tea, you will have made a quilted pillowcase. :)
Then you can scratch that off your list!

Did you know that 'liver' is among the slider ingredients? It's true. : ) I wouldn't be surprised...and that's cool...I'm polish and I hate to say the all the gunk that is stuffed in "casings" that we eat and love.
Well, I like Polish food so.....shhhhhh....don't be tellin' me. LOL
The tradition was to take them to White Castle and see how many "sliders" they could eat....The last one to go (late 70's) won eating 30... No one came close to his bathroom that evening LOL!
Yikes! LOL
I'm surprised he could even make to the bathroom. LOL

Just coming back for the late evening, jw.
One of my sons took his family a year ago to see Mt. McKinley, flying to Anchorage and renting an SUV to drive there.
When he went with us at age 10, the Denali Highway was primitive and unpaved - no amenities at all. No lodges, restaurants, billboards, gas stations; no showers or even restrooms! - nada.
Bit of a problem for a woman, especially since the next day was the opening of Moose Season, and fidgety hunters were driving up and down the road to pick 'the best spot.' With no trees, and very little brush, it was a challenge foe me to have 'privacy' - positioned my two boys to watch for approaching vehicles at the road while I found a mini-depression and hoped for the best...:))
We had set up camp at the 88 Mile Overlook, and drove on to Mile 125, closer to the base, and it is indeed overwhelming and awesome.
Now there are modern hotels/motels at the beginning of the highway in, and you are no longer free to drive further inland, except for arranged, (costly) guided tours.
They had to go by bus through the Denali National Park, seeing plenty of animals - but not the wilderness feeling we experienced in 1965!
I'm sure man's intrusive, destructive habits when so many descend dictated that becoming necessary. I was there before the pipeline was begun.
I am so grateful to have had unhibited access to the pristine land, going at my own pace.
(They then drove to Valdez and boarded the cruise line ship to go to Vancouver to stay for another week.)
The week before we headed south from Eielson AFB, we had spent 5 days going up the Steese Highway to a point ABOVE the Arctic Circle to camp! Had snow flurries on August 12th....the whole August trip was in temperatures ranging from 30 at night to 55 by day, but we were accustomed to it then.
We had driven from Rapid City, South Dakota to Fairbanks over the Alaska Highway (around the upper end of the Rockies) in the dead of winter - and out in summer, going all the way to South Florida (to see family, where I grew up) and then up to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina....just a few miles..:))

Every time I go to Columbus to the doc. we stop on the way home at the White Castle out near Chilicothe. It's a new one, but there's another closer in to town that also has the jalapeno ones. They are not too hot, but the jalapenos make them sooooo good. I would think that all the W.C. in Columbus would have them. Check the menu next time you go to one.
