A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

SOME OF FR'S FINEST PROFILE PAGES #8

Many Freepers have taken advantage of the opportunity to create a Profile Page. The results of these creations are often illuminating, humorous, inspirational, artistic or biographic, just to mention a few descriptive words.

Below are some randomly selected FR's Finest Profile Pages. There are, of course, many other FR's Finest Profile Pages worthy of featuring, and we will be featuring them in future editions of Some of FR's Finest Profile Pages. Several have already been featured (see links below). If you have a Profile Page you would like to share, or if you come across a Profile Page that you want to bring to our attention, you know the drill - freepmail Billie, Mama_Bear, Dansangel, dutchess or myself.

In the meantime, please take a look at Some of FR's Finest Profile Pages #8.

phelix is another talented Freeper with a beautiful Webpage which is linked on her Homepage - "simply a collection of flowers from my yard, my cats, my artwork and some poems and stories that are special to me. It means a lot to me to be able to share them here as part of my life...my blink within a dream." Do check out the lovely flowers. Spring is coming!

Mr. Mulliner, whose screen name was formerly Singapore Yank, has provided a recommended reading list of Christian Classics. In fact, he has nifty "bookshelf" with some of these classics. They are all in the public domain so can be freely downloaded. Just click on a title and start reading or print it out.

Mr Fowl's Homepage is devoted to the sport of water fowl hunting on the Delaware Bay. Everything from tide charts, to satellites, to navigational photos can be found here. And if you are not into water fowl hunting, have a look anyway. There is one particular link I enjoyed-one to the lighthouses of Delaware Bay. Also included are some good photos of his beautiful hunting dog, Bob.

Centurion2000 claims that his Homepage is under construction but believe me, it is completed enough to be featured here. Once you read this page, you will come away knowing plenty about this younger FReeper. He shares much of himself. He is picturered here at the Hawkwood Mideval Fanstasy Festival playing a character named Pox. Did I mention that he is interested in science fiction gaming?

Siobhan's Homepage features beuatiful religious art, mostly of Madonna and Child, with a poignant lead-in message from Mother Teresa on abortion, published in the Wall Street Journal in 1994. This message starts out "America needs no words from me to see how your decision in Roe v. Wade has deformed a great nation. The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and...."

Arkinsaw's Homepage provides a link to "The Cult of Scalia" - a wonderful site for all fans of Justice Antonin Scalia. Some of the magnificent opinions he has written are available on this site. Also links to two fine organizations are provided - Sons of Confederate Veterans and Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

"I don't always know about the inside jokes either."

Never let that bother you: (1) half the time they just look like inside jokes and they're actually whimisical sudden plays on words and (2) these guys are so nice about just letting people jump in and play with them, even if it's clear we don't know what's going on.

I thought for the longest while that "pineapple pie" was some inside joke involving Louie. While there are have clearly been many pie jokes around and about here involving this flavor, it turns out there really is such a flavor of pie! I just learned that today, notwithstanding enjoyng myself immensely in the past reading about a pie flavor I heretofore viewed as fictional.

It's all a question of attitude. :)

Hi...I am back. Took a break to either watch the chess match or take a nap...Guess which option I took?...LOL...(had a nice nap). I suppose the chess match could be "fixed"...The Russky's seem to fix all sorts of competitions. Maybe that is why he is so glum-he has been told to lose?

I just assumed FreetheSausages was a rhyme, sort of, with FreetheHostages.

Inside jokes, we have inside jokes here? Fasinating....

Yeah, the "inside jokes" thing is overrated: it's mostly whimisical things that people don't get so they assume someone else does. LOL -- perhaps people think ALL my jokes are inside! Who has time to Freepmail? I barely have time to keep up with my public comments!

Now, I'm glad you enjoyed your nap, but you should know: Kasparov just offered a draw and the computer turned him down. It's a close game. But it looks like it's headed toward a draw.

Which means that the match will end up being tied. Chess matches last a LONG TIME -- it's still playing on ESPN. So hurry hurry to your set!! Hee hee, you'll be *relieved* to know you haven't missed it all! Or not. :)

Pineapple pie? My mother used to put pineapple in Strawberry Rhubarb Pie. So it would be Strawberry Rhubarb Pineapple Pie.

:) I'm born in Vermont. I quilt. I also collect the quilts of Mickey Depre (www.mdquilts.com). I have one quilt by Katie Masopost-Marquist, too. But mostly I make 'em. They're all over my living room. All kinds. I'm from New England, so I'm found of patchwork. I've started doing a lot of paper foundation pieced quilts -- or I did before I found this thread! Hee hee. Ah, sigh. I do wish life was a little longer. Or, no, that would seem ungrateful to God. I wish that the days were a little longer.

My mom makes the best strawberry rhubarb pies. Both the strawberries and the rhubarb from our backyard. Warm from the oven, with a little vanilla ice cream, it was delicious. Mom, bless her, really can't do a crust so that the juice doesn't leak out and mess up the top, and I learned to like it that way: a shiny film of strawberry juice blotching the top of the pie.

As a lawyer and conservative, I particular enjoyed arkinsaw's homepage! Thanks for sharing. I know one of Justice Scalia's clerks -- he often hires liberals in order to be alerted to "the other side" of arguments, the better to prepare and respond to them. He's a very good judge.

Hi Molly and dansy. Have my first meeting with my firearms instructor Tuesday. (he's also a sheriff deputy and, while I only know him in passing (which probably is good,) he commands a lot of respect and Mr. D. thinks has the right attitude and temperment to work with me). He says we're starting with "firearms 101" storing, cleaning, loading etc. Will keep you informed!

Hi, Pippin...read your post #57...) Gosh, I couldn't choose the best amongst Republicans because the Gipper and Dubya stand equally tall in my eye, and the two together would be my choice...I'm very grateful to both of them, and for them both.

I'm grateful it's Friday, too...just wanna go home and do nothin' for awhile...)

Denali is breathtaking in photograph, I think it would just floor me to see it in life...I knew some people who got to circumnavigate it in a small plane, back in '64...went round the whole thing at about 10,000 feet...I remember their spectacular home movies to this day.

Re: Quilting. We have a "school" in our county (includes dorms and foster homes) for troubled children which takes kids from all over Ohio. It is mainly supported by the Mennonite Church community which is also strong here. These kids are the worst of the worst...usually because of their upbringing and by the time they get here....it is the ultimate challenge. Most are inner city....and we are a bedroom farm community.

Anyway, their biggest fundraiser is an annual quilt auction. They raise well over $100,000 on this) Mennonites from all over the country participate in donating hand made quilts. The first year Mr. D. was running for prosecutor we obviously had to be there and, not being a quilter (or really understanding the patterns..etc. (or that they were hand sewn and NOT by a sewing machine), I WAS FLOORED when some sold for over $5,000. I went in figuring I could buy a king size for around $500. I finally got a 2'by 3' walling hanging thing for about $400. I can get you on the mailing list of Adriel School or link you to more information if you wish...
