A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

SOME OF FR'S FINEST PROFILE PAGES #8

Many Freepers have taken advantage of the opportunity to create a Profile Page. The results of these creations are often illuminating, humorous, inspirational, artistic or biographic, just to mention a few descriptive words.

Below are some randomly selected FR's Finest Profile Pages. There are, of course, many other FR's Finest Profile Pages worthy of featuring, and we will be featuring them in future editions of Some of FR's Finest Profile Pages. Several have already been featured (see links below). If you have a Profile Page you would like to share, or if you come across a Profile Page that you want to bring to our attention, you know the drill - freepmail Billie, Mama_Bear, Dansangel, dutchess or myself.

In the meantime, please take a look at Some of FR's Finest Profile Pages #8.

phelix is another talented Freeper with a beautiful Webpage which is linked on her Homepage - "simply a collection of flowers from my yard, my cats, my artwork and some poems and stories that are special to me. It means a lot to me to be able to share them here as part of my life...my blink within a dream." Do check out the lovely flowers. Spring is coming!

Mr. Mulliner, whose screen name was formerly Singapore Yank, has provided a recommended reading list of Christian Classics. In fact, he has nifty "bookshelf" with some of these classics. They are all in the public domain so can be freely downloaded. Just click on a title and start reading or print it out.

Mr Fowl's Homepage is devoted to the sport of water fowl hunting on the Delaware Bay. Everything from tide charts, to satellites, to navigational photos can be found here. And if you are not into water fowl hunting, have a look anyway. There is one particular link I enjoyed-one to the lighthouses of Delaware Bay. Also included are some good photos of his beautiful hunting dog, Bob.

Centurion2000 claims that his Homepage is under construction but believe me, it is completed enough to be featured here. Once you read this page, you will come away knowing plenty about this younger FReeper. He shares much of himself. He is picturered here at the Hawkwood Mideval Fanstasy Festival playing a character named Pox. Did I mention that he is interested in science fiction gaming?

Siobhan's Homepage features beuatiful religious art, mostly of Madonna and Child, with a poignant lead-in message from Mother Teresa on abortion, published in the Wall Street Journal in 1994. This message starts out "America needs no words from me to see how your decision in Roe v. Wade has deformed a great nation. The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and...."

Arkinsaw's Homepage provides a link to "The Cult of Scalia" - a wonderful site for all fans of Justice Antonin Scalia. Some of the magnificent opinions he has written are available on this site. Also links to two fine organizations are provided - Sons of Confederate Veterans and Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.

1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar.
2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up.
3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit.
4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it.
5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me an FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

The pic is a shot of Tuttle Creek as it runs through a campground, just a few miles up and east of Lone Pine, CA...I lived on ranch a couple more mile further up, looking down on the campground...it's a gentle slope uphill until the Sierras get really vertical.

Elevation where the photo was taken is probably about 5000 feet...the peak in the photo is 13,000.

My heart resides in many places, but especially right there in those few very sacred square miles

Huh? Just a flippant, dark-humored joke. You have to laugh: in the decision of whether it's safer to be in DC or NYC when the war starts, my work schedule has decided it's a complete toss-up and I should shuttle between these 2 cities. I actually find it darkly humorous.

They let you listen to replays via the archive too.

The archives are great -- sound quality is superb.

I can certainly understand why. It's a most beautiful place.

Thank you, for the info. : )

You guys take care in D.C. Between the weather and the terrorists, you need lots of those yummy looking chocolate drinks.

Yes, FTH, there is such a thing as double crusted pineapple pies. I never knew it either till I "met" Louie. He kept asking for pineapple pies and I kept making those cream cheese pineapple pies...he was always gracious but finally the word got out that he meant two crusted pineapple pies. They are hard to find on google...at least the photos. But there are some good looking recipes for them. And our main pie place out here - Marie Callendar's-do not make them daily but do have them as a special from time to time. So they are "rare" but they do exist. I personally have never had one though but Mama_Bear is going to make one when I journey up to Fresno some Friday night for a Freep. Will take pictures and give a report...lol...

I see your niece, Jennifer is on the military prayer list. God bless her!

Thanks for that prayer.

Ever notice how He Blesses each and every one of us - all the time? We (I) often fail to notice His handiwork in our (my)day to day struggles.

He is indeed worthy of our praises.

Oh my goodness...on reading what I'd written, a major navigational error becomes evident...the campground is west of Lone Pine.

Don't wanna spread disinformation...)

Many movies were filmed in the area...from Gunga Din to Gladiator...everytime I turn on the tube, it's in a commercial or flick...always sparks me.

Excellent, John. Back-to-back essays. KEWL!

Powell's comment to Boxer yesterday was priceless. He slammed her good but I'm afraid she was "speed-listening" (I think she took the Evelyn Wood classes). Seemed to go right over her head.

Thanks for mentioning the Blizzard of '78. My parents were living in Buffalo at the time-had lived there for most of their marriage having moved there from SC. My Dad loved the "North" but my dear mom never got to liking it. So when Dad retired, she was gently nudging him (all right, begging him) to move "back home" near "their people". He was dragging his feet and she was a demure Southern Belle, very non-assertive-but after that Blizzard, that was it for her. She gave him the ultimatum....no more winters in Buffalo! lol....They moved by the end of summer 1978.

Thanks for stirring up that memory.
