Like any bad tennant, sometimes you have to pay them to vacate the premises.
Why not have the US build the UN a new headquaters they have been so badly wanting, in Paris, France.

At the same time, all called on Iraq to cooperate with the U.N. inspectors These people are a total joke.
Powell clearly showed that Saddam was making a laughing stock out of the nations supporting inspections.
I can't believe we even bother with the UN.
I am almost convinced these nations resent the SuperPower status of the US so much that they might actually like to see another 9-11 to destroy US dominence.

He's definately an an idiot. And so is Bush. Reagan, in his current state, is smarter than both of them combined.

I think that would be disasterous at least as far as the framing of this war goes. If we pull the plug on the UN our Arab so-called friends will have no cover. The war will be framed as a unilateral war of agression, rather than an enforcement of the collective will of the peoples of the world.
Of course, we can still win the war, if it is framed that way. The deeper worry is whether we can win the peace if the war is framed that way.
I suppose one could just say to the world. "This train is leaving the station. You either get on board or be a bystander." We can then hope that the enough others won't want to be bystanders for some reason or other.
It would be one thing if we had never gone to the UN. It's quite another given that we bowed to the relevance of the UN to give the finger to the UN now.

"Ten out of 14 members of the U.N. Security Council Wednesday called for the continuation and strengthening of weapons inspections in Iraq despite U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell's dramatic 75-minute expose of Saddam Hussein's secret build-up of weapons of mass destruction. Exactly. Powell was rubbing the UN's own crap into its ignorant members faces. Whether that doggie learns to clean up after itself is no longer the business of the Nations United as a Coalition to Free Iraq and to Destroy the Ba'ath parties WMD.

The only way it would have been any better would be if Iraq was on the SC..then Koffi could call a "time out"

The forecast concerning the 700 to 800 cruise missiles which will hit Baghdad's command-and-control centers in the first two days of the war is only a part of the opening tactics for the war.
(I personally assume that we will attack all of their known scud sites and artillery emplacements with something akin to timed fire--calculated to impact all at the same time. It's the warheads and shells which are already readied and/or loaded--not the stockpiles or production facilities--which we need to worry about first. We can take out the suspected stockpiles and production sites right after that.)

This is truly bizarre. It is like a big international IQ test with those wanting to continue the inspections scoring at the bottom. It is akin to betting on instant replays! Not since Chamberlain has this level of diplomatic stupidity been flaunted.

don't forget the special forces sent in to secure the oil fields prior to the attack..

Fitting, very fitting. Part of me, though, would like to see us quit the UN, ask them to leave and then watch the twits fight over which country would get UN HQ. Why not introduce some more rancor and splits into an already odiferous organization?

Didn't Bush say he would be giving another speech after Powell's presentation? I think it will amount to "We showed you that they are thwarting your inspections, and you call for a continuation of inspections. To us, that represents obstructionism, and therefore, we will act on our own, thanks."

gagging... the UN reminds me of some parents I know...
Now, Jimmy... please don't throw rocks at the puppy, it hurts him and makes him sad...
Jimmy-Honey, Mommy asked you to stop hitting the puppy, it isn't nice and you are hurting him...
Please, Jimmy, as a favor to Mommy... stop hurting the puppy...
Jimmy, if you stop hitting the puppy with rocks, I'll buy you a new Playstion game....
Jimmy, you aren't being fair to Mommy and it is making Mommy sad now...
Jimmy, if you don't stop throwing the rocks I'm going to put you in a time-out. Be Mommy's little angel and stop now, okay?
Honey, you are still throwing rocks and now you made him bleed on his head... don't you want a new Playstation game? Please put the rocks down, pumpkin...
Makes you want to spank the PARENT!!!

America, please wake up. This isn't your father's U.N. from the Cuban Missile Crisis days. This is your great-grandfather's League of Nations all over again.
Time for America to get the hell out of this worthless organization.

The only thing better than turning the UN into an empty debating society is to turn it into an empty building! Send in the 101st Airborne Inspection Team!
