Charlton Heston Speaks Out On Clooney's Cruel Alzheimer's Joke

Gallant Alzheimer's victim Charlton Heston is refusing to react in anger to George Clooney's joke about is tragic medical condition.

"I don't know the man - never met him, never even spoken to him," the 78-year-old silver screen legend told The ENQUIRER in an exclusive interview. "But I feel sorry for George Clooney - one day he may get Alzheimer's disease.

"I served my country in World War II. I survived that - I guess I can survive some bad words from this fellow."

Clooney ignited a firestorm of fury while accepting a Special Filmmaking Achievement Award from the National Board of Review in New Tork by telling the audience: "Charlton Heston announced again today that he is suffering from Alzheimer's."

And despite the hurt he caused, former "ER" star was unrepentant.

"I don't care," he said defiantly. "Charlton Heston is head of the National Rifle Assiciation - he deserves whatever anyone says about him."

Heston has often been the focus of controversy over his leadership of the NRA, but he was universally praised for his courage last August when he went public with the admission that he was suffering from the incurable - and fatal - disease that has also stricken former actor and President Ronald Reagan.

"I've still got a busy life going," Heston said. "I have no problem remembering things or being aware of things at all."

But if Heston was inclined to forgive Clooney's callous mockery, many others were not so forgiving.

"We've been inundated with e-mails from people across the country expressing outrage," Elizabeth Wilson, of the Alzheimer's Association, told The ENQUIRER.

"It was a totally insensitive joke at the expense of a man who had the courage to come forward, reveal that he had been disgnosed with this tragic disease - and by doing so gave hope to others that attention would be focused on it and perhaps hasten a cure

"It was particularly hurtful to the four million Americans who suffer from Alzheimer's and the 18 million more who love and care for them."

May he rot in whatever hell his remarks may cause him, and may those who care always know that Clooney counts for nothing.

I can't believe I used to find this pig attractive...

Yeah, me too, ain't it funny how once the ugly leftist words are spit out.....the entire package fades into one of revulsion? I am thinking Sean Hannity's brutal if humorous outtake, used sometimes, that refers to 'liberal girly men' doesn't have more than just a bit of truth to it...liberal men just aren't masculine.

Even in "long shots" people are needed as extras. I know a professional film extra who provided some of the voice work for the crowd in Gladiator.

Can't be seen, can't be identifiably heard, but he got paid all the same.

I'd love to see Chuck Heston part Looney Clooney's hair with a water pistol just like I saw him part the Red Sea.

Maybe somebody (who, me?) ought to start a FReepers Cool Actors list of Hollywood names (actors and producers, etc.) who are out-of-the-closet NON-lefties. You know, you never see conservative actors drumming up petitions or going on big crusades to get people to join their bandwagon, like you do with liberals. That's why I think it's not particularly hypocritical to fawn over out-of-the-closet conservative/libertarian/Republican actors while chastizing folks like Rob Reiner, Streisand, and Jane Fonda.

FWIW, I also think it's good to patronize the movies of Hollywood folks who've remained apolitical. That, too, is attractive in an actor!

Okay, my contributions for the list ...

James Woods
Clint Eastwood
Mel Gibson
Kurt Russell (Libertarian who actually had his pic taken with Newt! That took guts!)
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Morgan Freeman (who stated publicly that he liked George Bush)
Dennis Miller
Bruce Willis
Tom Selleck
Ben Stein

Got others to add? Let's start a list!

There are those who do boycott paying to see some films while still paying the theater and studios.

Some will pay for a smaller Fox film while seeing a new Star Wars film so as to help it's box office take instead of the Star Wars take. Some will even cross studio lines.

For me, I can't stand to watch anything with beady eyed Alec Balwdin anymore so buying his movies "used", watching them on cable, etc. doesn't help. I liked The Shadow and Miami Blues but have zero interest in ever seeing these movies again. Watch Miami Blues knowing what we know of Alec and his creepy persona will cross the line; he is slimy.

I have a very low threshold for Tim Robbins. I can still watch Tapeheads but I don't enjoy it like I once did. I caught part of Arlington Road on cable but it was more like watching a car wreck; uber leftist Tim (Susan Saradon's adopted sonspouse) plays a right wing wacko terrorist in that one.

Why hasn't he been ostracized for being against constitutionally protected rights?

I think they ARE planning to call it "Ocean's 12." It will be followed by 10 prequels.

I wasn't aware Clowney had shoed his ar$e again until my next-door neighbor (66) who rarely ever talks politics brought it to my attention.

I only wish the democrats would run Clownboy and Lieberman on the same ticket in 2004.

Vincent Gallo

Patricia Heaton, the woman who plays the wife on Everybody Loves Raymond

Johnny Ramone, band leader of the Ramones (he even mentioned his support for President Bush in his Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame acceptance speech). CJ isn't a diehard conservative like Johnny but he does support the NRA as a means of defending rights. The Ramones website has changed and I can't find Johnny Top Ten lists including favorite conservatives (he had some politicians and cabinet members as well as some actors he knows).

There was a young actress on Hannity and Colmes within the last 2 months or so who was also proud to be a conservative. I am scrathing my head trying to remember what film she was in.

Im sure someone in here knows who it was.

Good Evening All-

So, the Hollyweird actor George Clooney doesn't like guns...but what is the FIRST thing he picks-up when making a movie to siphon hard-earned money from American moviegoer pockets...you guessed it...FIREARMS.

His movies include: The Thin Red Line, The Peacemaker, and The Three Kings. These movies all had prominently-featured firearms.

Clooney, you are a HYPOCRITE with a short memory.

Technologically speaking, however, the time is fast approaching when live actors will not be necessary to create very real looking characters.

This is true! The Missus and I just saw Twin Towers and Gollum is a far better actor than George Clooney. Much more depth of character.

Can jerks like him be Freeped?

You know, someone finds out when and where he's next going to speak or get some Barf Hollywood Award, and any Freepers within an hour's drive go and protest outside (and call the local media's attention to it)?

I guess I would be most opposed to his insistance on promoting fundamentalist Christian values. Although most Christians are very good people, there are some who have misused the teachings of Jesus Christ to persecute civil rights leaders that argue for equal treatment for all races, genders and sexual persuasions.

I don't get this. First of all Mr. Heston marched with MLK in support of civil rights. Secondly I haven't heard that Charleton Heston has ever opposed equal treatment for genders and sexual persuasions. What are you talking about? If you have information to the contrary bring it out.

I never was that impressed with Heston as an actor either, and then I saw him in Treasure Island. I remember being so impressed with his performance - I highly recommend that version of the movie - it had Irish music for a soundtrack, Christoper Lee as Blind Pew, Oliver Reed as Capt Bones and Heston played Long John. I never liked any of the other versions after seeing that one.
