Reaching Higher Ground
Descending, only to rise!
Leaving pull
Of God's green Earth
In a blaze of fire!
Worldly friction didn't win
Every trouble fades
On that heavenly high
Pushing out further
Than man has ever been
On the frontier
Of the deep dark night
Pushing the limits
Of this mortal life
We will never know
Unless we strive
The brave live forever
Seared into our hearts
Not knowing they were heroes
Just doing their part
But they'll not be forgotten
In the troubled times ahead
By courageous example
They have forever led
Elijah's chariot
Came to carry them away
To their eternal home
In God's eternal sky

They don't love God! They serve "a god". Jesus called him "the god of this world".

I'm confident they will know what happened, but they might not know why. Does that make sense to you?

If we find out what occured, we may never know exactly why it happened or why it led to the tragedy, especially if more than one factor caused it, I agree. Thinking it is an accident, I'll settle for an acceptable theory.

I am ok. Just sad memories.

Thank you, RA, for this insight. I think we all can appreciate how professionals must handle the crisis at the time, but the emotional devastation afterward must be crushing. As I understand it, NASA behaves as one huge family...one that you never really leave even if professional pursuits take you far away from Mission Control. I offer my heartfelt condolances to you, my friend, as you are indeed a permanent part of NASA's extended family.Thank you so much!

The only non citizen is the israeli pilot.
Most of the crew are pilots as has, in general, always been the case. Aerospace folks like to fly. But the Israeli was the payload specialist. He was not flying. Actually, there's no reason to believe that anyone was piloting. It was on autopilot as usual.

I have a Shuttle Operators Manual that did not get any bids a while back. I could probably put it up today and get a healthy number of bids. But I won't. I certainly won't put up any Space Shuttle items until after one year has passed.
Actually, if you have memorabilia to sell, you really shouldn't necessarily wait any longer than a few days after the memorials. It will be fresh in people's minds then and some of them will be looking for memorabilia of the tragedy. So, allowing others to buy your memorabilia items is not necessarily some kind of profiteering. It's a sharing of memories that mean a lot to many of us.
You should at least consider it.

I'd never feel right about it.

Actually, the only study ever done on the latter-day "bus in the grief counselors" post-disaster attitude showed that all the counseling ended up making the affected people feel WORSE, and to suffer LONGER.
I've had this opinion of these grief counselors all along. Leave them alone with their friends and family.

CNN also read a statement from the Palestinian Authority....Arafart so sorry for the loss..yeah right!
Do you suppose he sent that note to Israel? Bet not.

Yeah, I agree - I'm still very touchy just watching TV - the slightest thing and I'm bawling again.

I'm totally fed up with John Scott on FoxNews asking everyone in sight if it's time to finally pull the plug on manned exploration.
I'm getting really pissed off. That's the last thing our astronauts would want. They knew the risk and still considered it worth going.
